... still (JFYI) it can handle 3 (three) or more slashes in an URL rectius URI rectius URL, something that many browser simply cannot deal with "correctly" : https://daniel.haxx.se/blog/2016/05/11/my-url-isnt-your-url/ the post above and the actual github discussion: https://github.com/whatwg/url/issues/118#issuecomment-217866196 https://github.com/whatwg/url/issues/118#issuecomment-218236935 is a good example of why the end of the world (as we know it) is near ... jaclaz

Not really, that was just the beginning, many people were since able to obtain the same in many different countries, the actual average yearly grow rate of such occurrences being of 140% (total grow rate of 700% in 5 years) . By these metrics the initiative has been a worldwide success. jaclaz

Yep, as long as you have your (metal) colander on, it's safe : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flying_Spaghetti_Monster#Headgear_in_identity_photos and yes, Wikipedia is WRONG , the official headgear is a colander and not a "pasta strainer": http://www.thekitchn.com/strainer-colander-chinois-what-61828 http://www.venganza.org/about/ jaclaz

I have to assume that you already learned it FULLY, correct? If this is the case, it should have normally taken years (NOT just months or weeks) of hard study and work, and even if you are a genius at it , you shouldn't be so patronizing (if not downright offensive) about other people's attempts or (supposedly) inferior level of knowledge. jaclaz

Well, there is no actual LAW prohibiting to place the X axis at a Y point different from 0, when variations are so subtle (less than 3% among the values) it is common to use a cut-out to highlight the variations. (and there is also BTW no actual LAW stating that all graph should be made in X/Y coordiantes with both in the same scale). Imagine it as a zoom-in of the top part of the bars, or imagine that the bars are pillars of an ancient greek temple that are for around 80% of their height below ground level, this way shadows seem just about right ... jaclaz

The Vista issue might be an old one, related to (besides a few registry entries, similar to the XP ones) the missing of usbstor.sys among drivers until a USB device is connected to the USB booted system. This is one of the links in Dietmar's signature on the given thread on 911cd (you cannot see signature unless you are logged in, I believe): http://www.911cd.net/forums//index.php?showtopic=14181&st=1700&p=118931&#entry118931 and here is another one (for FAT32 install of Vista on USB): http://www.911cd.net/forums//index.php?showtopic=14181&st=1700&p=119093&#entry119093 Should anyone wonder, installing 7 on FAT32 is not possible, a workaround reducing the contents of the WinSXS folder is needed, JFYI: http://reboot.pro/topic/19643-winsxs-hardlinked-files/ jaclaz

I don't think that the issue is with those updates missing. I have a (test only ) machine where I freshly installed a Windows 7 using ONLY the thingy by Steve Gibson that denies the up [rectius down] grade to Windows 10 and I have more or less the same symptoms, and I have ALL suggested by Windows Update updates, both "important" and "recommended". Initially (starting from a SP1 integrated .iso) it took *forever* (and I initially attributed it to the stupid number of missing updates), so I tried updating the Windows Update thingy itself, using several versions of the "self-standing" corrected updater, *like* the kb3102810 one, and still it didn't work. I had to leave the stupid thing run overnight and it finally managed to get the updates (the setting is only to check for/list update and let the user choose what to download), then even the download of the updates was very slow, I thought about a temporary overload of the servers being busy with the downloads of the Windows 10 files and attributed the initial very, very slow response to some cross-linking/whatever of the engine since many among the hundreds of updates are "fixes" to a previous update. BUT, a few days later, when I had the system perfectly "aligned", new searches for updates were also extremely, and I mean extremely, slow (several hours), and looking around on various forums found tens or hundreds of similar reports, starting (roughly) since september 2015. There is someone that even speculates that the good MS guys are doing this "on purpose" to "invite" people to get the stupid Windows 10, it is either that or they made a mess of the update engine (or of the servers). jaclaz

The project was "put on hold" (actually put "among the things I might finish when I have time and will", which translates to "never"). I do have a "somewhat working" setup, but I doubt that it might be of use for you exactly because it AVOIDS the use of xibo or any of the other senselessly (for the simple task at hand) complex "frameworks" (or whatever you call them). If I recall correctly, it was a simple set of PHP scripts, if you are anyay interested in them, let me know, I might be able to find them in some backup and share them. jaclaz

Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM000
jaclaz replied to alexmirica's topic in Hard Drive and Removable Media
I have NO good news. That disk is seemingly one of the "LP green" kind, it is NOT a "normal" 7200.11. We do have a couple of threads about similar "LP green" Seagate's, here: But you seem like being able to access terminal commands without the shorting, can you confirm it is a "LP green" device? (there should be somethign on the label on the disk with What were the actual symptoms BEFORE you started fiddling with it? We have NO "definite", "detailed", "tested", "validated" methods, only some partial, often contrasting reports on the matter. There is a report of success using a m0, etc. command BEFORE N1, but it is related to a 7200.12: http://computersciencelabs.blogspot.it/2011/02/seagate-720012-sim-error-firmware-fault.html and, on the other hand the previously linked to reports on MSFN say that doing that will likely brick (forever) the device so - a least for the moment - DO NOT EVEN think of running any m0, etc. command. This here (still applies to 7200.12 and not necessarily to your device) - please use google translate or similar, from Russian: http://hddhelp.com.ua/7200-12.htm uses some V commands before the m0, etc. one, but again DO NOT attempt these until the device is identified. jaclaz -
But then you will get a PE 1.x AND NOT an XP. @Flashed It is perfectly possible to create a "full" install of XP on a USB stick, there are several methods available. The "historical" method is here: http://www.911cd.net/forums//index.php?showtopic=14181 A working, tested, and almost fully automated method (that eliminates quite a few issues with hardware support) is here: http://reboot.pro/topic/9830-universal-hdd-image-files-for-xp-and-windows-7/ jaclaz

Ability to Sort Audio - Video Files on a USB Flash Drive
jaclaz replied to Monroe's topic in Software Hangout
Nice find! (the DriveSort one) The FAT sorter is seemingly - besides "inherently crappy" being .Net based - also hosted on a crappy site by your link. The original site is MIA, but a copy is available on the Wayback Machine: https://web.archive.org/web/20120207184803/http://www.holostek.net/FatSorter-1.0.4 https://web.archive.org/web/20120207184803/http://www.holostek.net/system/files/FatSorter-1.0.4.zip And here: http://fenux.net/story/fatsorteroneohfour For the record there are similar programs here: http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/95721/FAT-Sorter http://www.luisrios.eti.br/public/en_us/projects/yafs/ And there is a fatsort tool (already in a few Linux distro's): https://sourceforge.net/projects/fatsort/ On linux there is also a small bash script: http://cdsoft.fr/fatsort/ http://cdsoft.fr/fatsort/fatsort which makes me think that (most probably being MUCH slower AND having issues with temporary spaces needed) something similar can be made in "normal" batch, not unlike we used in good ol' NT4 to defragment FAT file systems (copying them elsewhere and then re-copying back the files in a given order) Here is a page dedicated to the issue and similar tools: http://www.murraymoffatt.com/software-problem-0010.html The simpler/easier GUI one should be http://funblog.themeparks.de/2009/03/sort-mp3-files-in-fat-folders-mp3dirsorter/ whilst this one (VB.NET): http://www.public.bplaced.net/ should be the most "flexible" one (as it allows manual ordering too). BUT, once seen all these nice programs, it would make to me more sense to use a defragmenter that allows file sorting, such as Ultradefrag : https://sourceforge.net/projects/ultradefrag/ as - while I don't use much these playing devices - I remember having seen some of them "choking" because of heavily fragmented filesystems. I believe that a number of other "defragmenting" tools have this option as well. jaclaz -

front usb computer case connection to pentium iii motherboards
jaclaz replied to cov3rt's topic in Windows 9x/ME
There is no actual "problem" to foresee, casually the given card comes with BOTH drivers AND a manual specifying the connector pinout: https://www.startech.com/Cards-Adapters/USB-2/Card/7-Port-PCI-USB-Card-Adapter~PCIUSB7#dnlds https://sgcdn.startech.com/005329/media/sets/VIA-VT62xx_Drivers/VIA_VT62xx.zip https://sgcdn.startech.com/005329/media/sets/PCIUSB7_Manual/PCIUSB7.pdf Individual wire connectors are usually marked: http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/installing-frontal-usb-ports/ AND they are also normally colour-coded: http://www.frontx.com/cpx101_2.html ... only some attention (as always) is needed when connecting them ... jaclaz -
Dibya, when quoting something, like this article on Softpedia: http://news.softpedia.com/news/windows-10-upgrade-reportedly-starting-automatically-on-windows-7-pcs-501651.shtml It would be nice if you mentioned the source AND maintained the link to the original reference: https://www.reddit.com/r/technology/comments/4a0asv/warning_windows_7_computers_are_being_reported_as/ Namely this is not "news", as it is more than one month old, that "wave" was mentioned at the time: jaclaz

front usb computer case connection to pentium iii motherboards
jaclaz replied to cov3rt's topic in Windows 9x/ME
USB is a rather simple bus, it has four wires: http://pinouts.ru/Slots/usb_pinout.shtml It is just the matter of connecting properly those wires. Almost *any* PCI USB 2.0 card will have an internal connector, many will have, rather or additionally to a set of pins, a "normal" USB female. Since I believe you have more than one USB sockets on the front of the case, I would rather get a card *like* this one (example): https://www.startech.com/Cards-Adapters/USB-2/Card/7-Port-PCI-USB-Card-Adapter~PCIUSB7 besides the (back) four ports, it has three internal ports, one as a USB female and two in a "standard" 9 pin dual USB connector: http://pinouts.ru/Motherboard/usb_internal_pinout.shtml jaclaz -

I was just attempting to disprove the statement of it being "obscure registry edits or whatever voodoo", it seems like being a four line .reg file merge or a set of four REG.EXE command lines, openly accessible to everyone, admittedly trying to do that in a "funny" manner. Sorry if I offended you, in this occasion or through the trend you noticed. jaclaz

It is a Chocolatey "link", actually a Nuget package. As a matter of fact it is simply a .zip file (you can open it with - say - 7-zip) containing a number of "metadata" to point *somewhere* else (hopefully a repository with the actual file). Namely, that .nupkg (among a number of completely unneeded *metadata* or whoatever* at the end of the day provides two URL's: $url = 'https://storage.googleapis.com/chromium-browser-continuous/Win/366297/mini_installer.exe' $url64bit = 'https://storage.googleapis.com/chromium-browser-continuous/Win_x64/366297/mini_installer.exe' Chocolatey is an attempt to have on Windows something similar to apt-get in Linux, i.e. it is a sort of "package manager" or "automagic update": https://chocolatey.org/ It is a nice tool, though I hate the whole idea of "package managers" and of "automagic updates", as I see it and in a nutshell the good programmers guys were not capable to make a simple, direct, not convoluted, way (the "normal" way, working since the dawn of time, which is a single .zip or sf exe with a distinctive name placed on - say - a FTP was evidently too d@mn simple and they really HAD to make it stupidly complex) to download and install programs. jaclaz
