  1. Furniture frame painted with a special paint mix containing 45% paint, 45% thinner and 10% paint hardener. This paint contains also a substance to get a mate finish. The idea was to get an industrial look, it worked out well . These tubes will be used as the monitor stands; the small tube on top of the monitor stand will be used to hang the headphones, the base plate of 120*120mm is a VESA 100 mount and will be attached directly to the screens. *Later today I will give a description of the pictures, and will post more pictures .
  2. That should not be a problem; pin layout is the same, but in most cases it has better shielding. Strange indeed. As a side note; That’s only for DOS compatibility.
  3. The SB600 is like the first to letters say the South Bridge. The PCI-E 16x line isn’t connected to that chip, it’s connected to the Northbridge and I think you are using a 690G or 690V chipset. Like ripken204 stated, it will be no problem to use the 8800GTX on it. If you go for a new video card by the way and can’t wait a few months, then go for the 8800GTS; just a bit less powerful but comes close and cost a lot less .
  4. Did you disable your Parallel (printer) port in the BIOS? And when you did, you still don’t get the IRQ 7 back for PCI? Yeah, MikeyHunt is jumping over some parts .
  5. I've had nothing but bad experiences with Intel motherboards, they're too uptight with hardware compatibility. Intel Chipsets are great, their boards, not so much. Not so much? How about they are almost the worst you can pick... They work, but I’ve seen too many with bad capacitors on them and that’s not years ago...
  6. I wonder if your BIOS support real ACHI mode, let me read the users manual of your motherboard now. Don’t expect much of a performance gain in the benchmarks by the way, I could only test it by starting Windows or other programs and measure the start times with a stopwatch (10 or 20 runs and the average taking from that).
  7. Prober, Don´t double post, that´s against the rules, a SMOD needs to kick you for this (joking). *Topics merged.
  8. I would like to help you all out, but the problem is that I only sell Gigabyte motherboards at this time. I also don’t have a 64bit Windows XP to test it on nor do they sell it in Mexico . With the Gigabyte motherboards it loads and installs an AHCI BIOS on boot up before it starts to boot from any data holding media. Does it show any thing like that when you start your ASUS motherboard? I remember that ASUS killed AHCI from some of there BIOSes...

  11. Lol, it´s even on a French site .
  12. I could not resist, but if some one knows how to keep MS Office and MSN (Live) Messenger working without IE core, please post here or better PM me (I could be outdated ).
  13. For the E4x00 series not that much. The E6x00 will be pushed away a bit by the E8x00 , but even there I don’t expect price drops until AMD releases there triple cored CPUs.
  14. This is software related, moving it to the Windows 98 section .
  15. Just half the cache, e.g. 1MB vs. 2MB. Not that much of a difference (else I would have it )...
  16. GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail + 100 USD. Intel Pentium E2180 Allendale 2.0GHz 1MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor - Retail + 88 USD. A-DATA Value Series 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Desktop Memory - Retail + 19 USD. So, depending on how much RAM you like, you could have new parts for 226USD (2GB) or 264USD (4GB) plus TAX and shipping . EDIT: By the way, with the stock cooler you can hit 3GHz without any problem. Just look at my signature :.
  17. 200 USD with those 4GB? Would be a good deal!.
  18. Welcome to THE forums hitchcock4, So, you want to OC your system if it’s almost safe to do it? If you stay on stock volts your sure safe. I made a list for you and later I’m going to explain why: Good old 800MHz DDR2 2GB package, nothing special but works great. Even if you OC your FSB to 1600 (4x400) it will work fine. Corsair XMS2 DHX 2048MB Dual Channel PC6400 DDR2 800MHz Memory (2 x 1024MB), 54 USD. Combo driver are slow and sloppy, not to talk about the old design. Combo drives are known to be returned more for RMA so get your self directly (also) an internal DVD-RW. Lite-On LH-20A1S SuperAllwrite SATA OEM DVD Burner - 20x DVD±R Burn, 16x DVD±R Read, 8x DVD+RW, 6x DVD-RW, 8x DVD±R DL, 12x DVD-RAM, 48x32x CD-R/RW, No Software, 33 USD. Case is personal; Coolermaster is known for good cases so nothing will be said bad about it. Cooler Master Elite 330 Black ATX Mid-Tower Case with Front USB and Audio Ports, less then 40 USD. The CPU you already picked, but be aware that ONLY he boxed version, so including the cooler, will give you 3 years warranty. Just don’t forget if it dies to return the CPU with the cooler (Intel could check if the cooler has been used but that’s a problem for later when the CPU dies (prob not)). Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 Processor BX80557E4500 - 2.20GHz, 2MB Cache, 800MHz FSB, Allendale, Dual Core, Retail, Socket 775, Processor with Fan, 130 USD. Forget your old PATA drive, go directly with one SATA drive, or when you like buy a second one too. Your older PATA drive will be the slowest part in your system and much features suck as AHCI will not work on PATA. Western Digital / Caviar SE16 / 250GB / 7200 / 16MB / SATA-300 / Retail / Hard Drive about 80 USD. A little bit better then Asus; The Gigabyte DS3 series motherboards can’t be beaten for it price by ANY other brand! So, you gave us the question about RAID and I gave you this nice, with all solid capacitors, motherboard as the best option. GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3R LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail, more info here, for 130 USD. Thermaltake does it right this time, a solid powersupply without the noise. Technically the PSU is outdated, it has a 65% efficiency compared with the newer, up to 85% PSU that are placed in a way higher pricerange. Note: The PSU has no LED fans (no lights). Tigerdirect are just sales people, what do they know . Thermaltake / PurePower / 430-Watt / ATX / Dual 80mm LED Fan / 20/24-Pin / SATA Ready / PCI-E Ready / Power Supply for 40 USD. You just need a simple video card, and if your monitor has DVI I would go for a cheap 20 USD card and swap it out later for a dual DVI/VGA when you want a second screen. ATI Radeon X600 SE Video Card - 128MB DDR, PCI Express, DVI, TV Out, Video Card for 20 USD. To OC your CPU, you need a better cooler with a better thermal compound paste: Cooler Master Hyper 212 CPU Cooler - Socket 754, 775, 939, 940, AM2, Copper Heatpipe for 50 USD. Well, that´s it, total of 577 (+shipping/TAX) USD incl. the extra cooler for Overclocking. If you have any question, fire at will . Ps. Newegg is cheaper…
  19. Indeed, I second that. So, the 945x doesn’t support quad cored CPUs directly; not from ASUS, not from another brand. Some support the upcoming Wolfdale (C0) cored CPUs (E8x00). If you like to have a quad cored CPU, then upgrade your motherboard with your CPU. I have said this before while others p/ssed on AMD; Intel made one socket model but it’s NO WARRANTY for an upgrade. In the history of the S775 Intel has made about 10 or more changes to there CPUs so it will NOT work on older socket 775 versions. A good example can be found in this topic.
  20. A bit to late maybe, but I would start to set your BIOS right. Do you still use your Serial and parallel ports? Can you disable the MPU-401 on your soundcard (jumper) or in your driver when you start up? 4 Communications Port (COM1) 7 ECP Printer Port (LPT1) 10 MPU-401 CompatibleThose ones are mostly not needed. Your sound card could work well on IRQ7. Other then that, like the others told you, set the IRQs manual in the BIOS, or change the position of the PCI cards.
  21. Not bad indeed, you did your homework. But, I would start, like clidx also stated, with the onboard sound. Why do you want to have the DVD reader by the way? Just to copy a DVD-/+R directly? You will be better of using just the DVD-RW and make the image on your hard drive. The P5K is a wonderful board but IMHO the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS4 Rev. 2.0 would give you the ICH9R in comparison with the ICR9 found on the P5K. This gives you the option to upgrade to RAID0 and use 2 less expensive drives in RAID or even 2 raptors in raid for a higher (mostly) read performance. Stock cooling on the Gigabyte gives you better cooling then the Asus. The price isn’t that much higher, if you like to stay with Asus then look at the P5K Deluxe/WIFI-AP. BE AWARE!: With the new CPUs you need to upgrade the BIOS, so there is a BIG chance that the CPU out of the box doesn’t work with the motherboard. Using a second and older S775 CPU properly is needed! The CPU cooler: Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme. For the VGA card, I would take a look at tomshardwareguide in his VGA chart.
  22. @ PsiMoon314, Please answer my two questions too. If you did made this topic just to get attention then you did well, but just tell us if you want some thing out of it, or to help us.
  23. So, by alternating a post you are saying we are breaking the law? Please fill us in on this, could you post the international laws that could apply on this forum please?
  24. Okay, there we go: This board is an international board, laws are hard to apply so we made rules: it’s up to the staff to do with the information posted or in any other way made publicity here on the site. Just the simple way to put it. We could make a whole bookwork about laws and right, and properly we should when you enter the site and become a member. If you have any advice we would be pleased to hear this from you. No, that’s just his approach, and he knows where he’s talking about. The fault that has been made in that topic is that communication should have gone by PMs, not in public on the board. Rules (now also seen as guidelines, and will be changed in rules):
  25. Good, let’s edit this topic. People just never learn. Ponch, don’t call people “fools”, although they are some times. BenoitRen, you have been nothing then a miss information giving person. Post again in this topic and you are out. Vince4Amy, XP works okay on 256MB better would be 2K, but I understand why you keep it cheap; some people are willing to pay not much for a refurbished system but try to be fair to the customer .
