  2. No, it does not make sense at all. NOD32 is a reputable and very popular, memory efficient and feature-rich anti-virus product. If Comodo's anti-virus (which is still in early stages mind you) is reporting it as a trojan then it has a serious false-positive issue. C'mon man, you must have seen the polls and recommendations from other users in the stickies, NOD32 is excellent. Are you using you aren't getting it confused with the NOD32 "FiX 2.1" (crack) which actually does report as a trojan?

  4. Polly want a cracker?
  5. Also, please improve on your spelling and grammar in future posts.
  6. If you have another PC nearby, take the HDD out of the PC and install it as a Slave drive in the other one, boot up and copy over the missing file. If you have a Windows XP Installation CD, perform a repair install. If you have any bootable media with a file manager, recovery software and Internet access such as a Linux distro, Winternals Admin Pak 5, Reatogo Builder or BartPE, boot to it and try to recover the file or obtain it from some place and transfer it to the HDD. Once you're back up and running, run Ad-Aware SE and Spybot S&D, update them and perform full system scans to remove any malware. Then install a freeware anti-virus such as Avast or AntiVir, update and perform a full system scan to remove any viruses/trojans/worms, etc.

  8. I wouldn't waste so much time with configuring the Services, honestly.
  9. Lowest detection rate of all the freewares. Avast picks up a lot more than it does.
  10. Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop] "CoolSwitch"="0" I tested this on my machine but it hasn't worked yet so it likely requires a reboot.
  11. Sysinternals' ServiWin.exe Although, I don't think it works on Vista.
  12. Right, I forgot I had no idea what I was talking about. Silly me, Trix are for kids. OldGoat43, you're funny.
  13. I take it the "Remember my password" box needs to be checked? I tried it on my gf's PC and the password said: "no password". That isn't her password.
  14. You've created the beginning of people signing into their IMers and finding their contacts list empty, e-mails deleted and people IMing them asking why they "cybered" with their relatives. Other than that, nice tool!
  15. That's awfully presumptuous. Did he say anything about being overclocked? You're deeming him guilty until proven innocent when it's supposed to be the other way around.
  16. Another system cleaner utility. nCleaner I'm already considering switching to it because it can be portable whereas CCleaner needs to have .OCXs registered which can't be done on the PCs at my workplace. Do you have any idea how much crap they have on those PCs? I'm not saying the system admin isn't good, they probably have to worry about more things than installed apps and filesize. If I were working for a company to maintain PCs, I'd personally do better in the organization department, though. That's where a tool like this comes in handy... unless the user permissions are so locked down that this thing can't delete anything at all due to being denied access. We'll see.
  17. Ideas, you still haven't elaborated on what is meant by "freezing". Does the Windows Shell (explorer.exe) freeze and take up 0%, 99% or 100% CPU usage? Does only Windows Explorer lock up temporarily? If so, if you have any file monitoring anti-virus or firewall enabled, that could be causing the problem. The Event Log Viewer should have some entries regarding the freezes/lockups. Other than that, we can't accurately assist without more information.
  18. Media Player Classic can do this for you by simply resizing the window or specifying the window to fit your screen, as well as many additional options.
  19. Attention to those wanting a free Nero alternative that supports DVD Video: CDrtfe Link to Topic on NeoWin (Has screenshots)
  20. And then run Dial-A-Fix on your system to unregister and register the DLLs for all core components.
  21. Test your RAM with MemTest. Try a different known-good working PSU if available. Make sure your motherboard is properly seated to ensure that nothing is shorting out and causing reboot. Do a fully updated spyware scan with Ad-Aware SE and Spybot S&D, as well as anti-virus scan with a trial version of Kaspersky and/or NOD32. It is possible you have a trojan horse that is sending a reboot command.
  22. Kaspersky has a better detection rate than NOD32 but is also heavier on system resources and buggier. NOD32 has a nicer GUI, rock-solid stability and the best on system resources that I've ever seen. I choose stability over detection rate because I rely on my computer sense moreso than actual software. I personally believe you don't need any other product once you've been exposed to the breath of fresh air NOD32 offers.... unless you're going for freeware. I've read many people say that Avast has kept them on the green. So Avast or NOD32... try them out. Cheers.
  23. You don't need to spend any money on anti-virus and anti-spyware. Avast/AntiVir and Ad-Aware SE/Spybot S&D. Also Computer sense.
  24. Just tried again and got: Edit - 4th time in = 79000.
  25. You guys see this yet? Holy crap! http://benheck.com/Games/Xbox360/x360_page_1.htm He's obviously got the time and resources... That must have been insanely fun but at the same time painful (trial and error).
