  1. Spyware: Download, install and update both Ad-Aware SE Personal v1.06R1 and Spybot S&D v1.4. Do full system scans with both and clean/fix any infections they report. Viruses: Download, install and update Kaspersky Anti-Virus v6.0.2.621. Do a full system scan and let it clean anything it reports. Reboot if an infection cannot be initially cleaned/deleted. Kaspersky's trial lasts 30 days. If you wish to use this product for one year legally, use the AOL version labeled ActiveVirusShield. Note: For ActiveVirusShield, enter your e-mail address here for a free 1-year activation code. Your e-mail will not be subjected to spam. If you prefer freeware then fill in this form for a free registration code to use Avast! Home Edition v4.7. 2. I run some from the run box and others from the desktop shortcuts.
  3. I got that too, and the same thing happened when I tried to apply the fix found on Google for that error message. Solution? Avoid the product.
  4. If I had of known of Acronis True Image Home Edition years ago, I would have saved myself a crapload of headache... I think I've shaved a few years off my lifespan from computer stress alone.
  5. Sometimes it is just too far gone and a reformat is the only option. Let's see how long the owner(s) can go without infecting it with today's hottest.
  6. XP Can function quite well on 512MB of RAM providing that you keep your HDD organized, defragmented and use good lightweight software.

    error Vlite

    The search option does wonders.
  8. WLM uses Windows Installer so the Windows Installer Cleanup Tool should be able to help with that as well.
  9. Put the HDD in another PC or boot to a BartPE or Knoppix CD and delete them that way. However, the Vundo virus which I have been infected with doesn't show up even then, I had to use the Vundo Fix for it.
  10. lol, nice one.
  11. An outdated BIOS... I didn't even think of that. Interesting. *Adds to list of things to check when advising other people* Thank you for the update on that, betamax.
  12. MatouSec's KIS2006 Review
  13. VCCleanup.exe This is a Symantec file so yes the SymNRT should remove it. Otherwise it's a trojan/worm that you should use Kaspersky or NOD32 to delete. I provided a link to those to-notch anti-virus products in my original post.
  14. I tried Infra Recorder but it wanted to make an image of anything I tried to burn to a temp file first before actually burning it. Plus it wouldn't let me drag folders from the tree-view so I went back to Nero.
  15. I love SATA drives. And just rename the files. If I spent 3 months on a video project and it somehow got deleted and R-Studio recovered it entirely, I wouldn't give a flying f*** about the filename. You have to know what to appreciate and what not to be too concerned about.
  16. I've never heard of "InCD" in Nero and as I stated before, I've burned hundreds of DVDs with Nero Lite/Micro (6/7) and they are all flawless.
  17. Perhaps if you posted in the correct subforum. Application Switches But do not double post, ask for a moderator to move this topic.
  18. This issue is ancient. The resolution is the following: Click Start > Run, type in REGEDIT and click OK. Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE >SOFTWARE >Classes > CLSID > {87D62D94-71B3-4b9a-9489-5FE6850DC73E}> InProcServer32 Right click the InProcServer32 key and choose Delete. Reboot. Or: Start > Run > regsvr32 /u shimgvw.dll This unregisters the DLL responsible for providing some of the column details and the thumbnail view of the AVI files.
  19. Use CCleaner to clean out all the Windows and 3rd party temp/cache on your PC. You'd be surprised how much HDD space is consumed by temp/cache files over time. Note: Click the Download button, click "Other Builds" at the bottom of the next page and choose the "Slim" version. If you have Norton installed, please use this tool to remove it. Spyware: Download, install and update both Ad-Aware SE Personal v1.06R1 (or Ad-Aware 2007 Beta 4) and Spybot S&D v1.4. If you prefer freeware then use Avast! Home Edition v4.7 or AntiVir v7.00.03.02. The latter has an even higher detection rate than Kaspersky and NOD32. For more information about anti-virus products, please visit http://www.av-comparatives.org. What is the error message? It is not always spyware or a virus. Please provide more information and screenshots.
  20. I personally am not familiar enough with printers in general to differentiate parts from one another, but if you're willing to spend the money on replacement parts I think that would be fine. I think it would be less time consuming and cheaper to simply by a brand new Brother laser printer. I see from your attached image that it's black and white and those are much cheaper than the color ones. You could likely get one for ~$100 or so. It's up to you.
  21. So it's a 4.5 year old laser printer that you got for free. How/where did you get it? Did you find it on the street, in a dumpster, from a friend or relative, a contest that gave away crappy stuff...? The only thing I can think of is to contact the manufacturer through the website. I personally think you're SOL.
  22. It's either the motherboard or the PSU. Try doing a barebones setup (mobo, CPU, RAM, HDD, video card and PSU) outside the case and on a flat surface with anti-static wrap (or wood). Use a flathead screwdriver to touch the two pins used to power the system and see what happens. It could a stand-off issue where it's not seated properly. If a stand-off is touching the board it could be causing it to freeze like you're describing. I see you did this for your heatsinks, but try the mobo.
  23. Right-click on the folder, click Properties, click the Hidden attribute, click OK. When you burn that folder, the attributes will also be saved when it is burnt to the CD.
  24. "Third Party Kernel"? Please do a clean install and integrate SP2 into your source with the integrator on RyanVM's site or with nLite if you wish.
