  1. Did you recently install an update for the Windows Installer that happened to be in a different language? That's the only thing I could think of that would cause this.
  2. Device ID: PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0271&SUBSYS_30B7103C&REV_A3\3&13C0B0C5&0&53 Driver: C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\nvsmu.sys http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp
  3. For future registry cleaning, try JV16 PowerTools. Glad Comodo works for you.
  4. I played around with it for another 5 minutes and fixed it, and the lists are a lot cleaner now. Go figure. Thanks anyway. Cheers.
  5. I have a user permissions issue. I'm not certain how it begun or how to resolve it. I have the following root folder and subfolders: Root Folder (Full control) -SubFolder1 (I have full control here) -SubFolder2 (None) -SubFolder3 (None) -SubFolder4 (I have full control here) Here are what my security settings look like: Screenie 1 Screenie 2 Screenie 3 Screenie 4 Screenie 5 Anything in the 4th screenie in particular that can be removed? The same security boxes under either subfolder #2, #3 are totally greyed out. Any ideas? What do you think Cluberti? Thanks guys.
  6. Thaaank you. VMware for me, though. Not sure about some software? Try it virtually... Cheers!
  7. Try Comodo Firewall Pro. It's freeware. It ranks first on MatouSec's leak test comparison page.
  8. You can always take the Hardware ID in DM for the Unknown and paste it on Google.
  9. The first and second one were the best, the 3rd one was alright...
  10. Nothing wrong with .NET 2.0. There is however something wrong with v3.0. Bloody hell. Anyway, IrfanView.
  11. Smartass.
  12. I don't monitor my temperatures anymore these days, but when I did I was basing my decisions on the advice of people from the SilentPCReview forums. People there said intake fans didn't help very much so I tested that theory and discovered little to no difference in temperature afterwards. However, my HDDs in the lower chamber of my case are 40C. I've been meaning to put a fan down there for some time but it would require some case modding.
  13. You will have to end all McAfee processes and temporarily disable the McAfee services so that nothing is using these files. Perhaps you could create a script to have this done each time prior to the backup as to not cause future problems. Cheers.
  14. I don't see .AWD in the list of supported file extensions in IrfanView. XnView also does not support this extension. It seems this file extension is specific to that software you are using.
  15. I've never used a .NET application that needed v1.1 as opposed to v2.0. If one does, it's the programmer's intention for whatever reason. But v2.0 is all you need.
  16. Right click on your Desktop, Properties > Appearance tab.
  17. If your data was so important, why didn't you make a backup? Your best option would be to use R-Studio or Runtime GetDataBack, neither are freeware. Damaging a partition isn't necessarily the end of your data, but if you used some erase tool that is designed to overwrite data numerous times, then I doubt you'd be able to successfully recover anything. Another option would be to have it professionally recovered by hardware means. If you're just talking about music and whatnot, just re-download them and burn them to CD/DVD.
  18. I honestly don't remember. Next time I'm out there I'll use WinAudit or Everest to do up a report of the specs and specifics and answer your question then. Cheers.
  19. Whoa, I didn't notice so many had replied until now. I have to clarify, it came originally with 128MB but we had 2x512 in it when my fiancee used it, but when we gave it to her mother, we took out the 2x512 to save for another system. Anyway, I know that if one stick is, say, 133 MHz and the other is 100 MHz that they both will run at the lower speed. I just wanted to know, in general, if unbalanced RAM (1GB and 128MB) would cause an issue. She says the system is like super-fast compared to before so maybe that's all that matters, eh?
  20. DivX < XviD < x264
  21. I knew this 4 years ago when I was encoding raw AVI files from my MiniDV camcorder with DivX and XviD. XviD was smaller in filesize at the same bitrate but the colors were more crisp, less blocky, noisy, etc. DivX was blocky, merged a lot of colors and made it look like crap. Nowadays, I don't know as I haven't done that in a few years.
  22. Windows Key + D?
  23. Try another media player such as Media Player Classic to see if the same thing occurs.
  24. My mother-in-law-to-be has one of our old Dell systems that originally had a low amount of RAM (128 MB) in it. She now uses AutoCAD 2007 in her work which requires a minimum of 512MB. I told her to take it to a PC shop and get the tech to put in 2x512MB. Well, he just put in one 1GB stick along with the 128MB. Is it a bad thing to have unbalanced RAM sticks like that? If so, do the cons in this situation warrant the effort and time to take it to back and get them replaced with 2x512MB? Thanks, Jeremy
