  1. I am well aware that as administrator there is a greater risk, having said that, I need not be reminded. I don't know how to outsmart a hacker because I know nothing about hacking and don't have much desire to learn. What I am good at doing is fending off an infection immediately after it has happened, rather than only becoming aware of it once programs report odd errors, indicating massive infection throughout the PC.
  2. THANK YOU. Someone actually said, "I've tested them all, this one is the best overall." Instead of. "Hi, my name is <Doofus>. Norton rulez!" Yeeeaaahhh, real informative...
  3. I'd say this topic is finished. Although, I thought I would mention a little app called Stinger.exe. My college A+ instructor mentioned it to the class. It doesn't remove a lot of bad stuff, but the quantity isn't what's important for this one. It removes some of the baddest bitches, apparently.
  4. Unfortunately, not all of us have the luxury of using uTorrent as well off as others. Zxian gets 500 KB/s DLing Linux distros. I'm lucky if I get 5 KBs on a torrent with a billion seeds. I don't know what it is... Anyway, Zxian, I believe he asked for a silent install method for Shareaza, not advice on alternative p2p software. If we were talking about browsers, I'd just say "Go with Opera, powerhouse right out of the box." But, not this time around. Sorry for being so blunt, but there's a dude in class today whose depressed/irritated at something and his atmosphere seems to be contagious. I'm empathic.
  5. I fully agree.
  6. Happy to help.
  7. Remove all that jibberish above. Now, you find your drivers+software package online, download it. Extract it, find the folder in the package containing the drivers, compress that and put it somewhere and delete the rest. I understand what you mean, you want only the DLLs/SYS files. Download the program Double Driver. It will recognise all your drivers. Backup the ones you desire with it.
  8. I apologize. But it still does suck when people name their sites similar to that out of pure jealousy. I shall read now.
  9. ComputerMan, stop being stubborn. PuntoMX knows his stuff! Saying you won't purchase a quality case from a site because it p***ed you off once is like saying you aren't going to a new school again after the first day because the kid that sat behind/next to you happened to be a real immature jerk to gave you a wedgie infront of the class. You don't like Newegg, then get that case from another site! PuntoMX wouldn't have posted here had I not given him the link to the thread. He knews a lot more about cases than I do. Take his advice. You will not regret it.
  10. Well, don't you feel special? I am not a moron. If I was at the PC instead of in the bathroom, I wouldn't have this problem. I have a lot of common sense when it comes to security. E-mail, p2p, compressed archives, Sygate notifications, router configurations. I listen to the Security Now! podcasts done by Steve Gibson and Leo on GRC.com. I also, being an nLite fanatic, have extensive experience with Windows files and folders, so that gives me another upper edge that allows me to pin point files and deem them obviously malicious moreso than the average joe will. So as for your comment about being admin, I am no dumb admin, I simply wasn't the person at the computer during the initial attack.
  11. Well, I seem to have cleaned it all, but while I was at work for 6 hours, 18 "Mac Spoofing" incidents occurred according to Sygate. Does anyone know what is causing these and how to fix them?
  12. I have a router, I use Sygate and Trillian. My girlfriend managed to click some "web link" in a conversation window asking if it was my profile. I don't even have a profile but she didn't know that. It didn't open in Opera. She tried to save it, it was an "MS-DOS application". Sygate popped up notifying her, she clicked "Yes". (This all happened while I was in the bathroom and afterwards generated a large fight). Anyway, the virus will crash any spyware tool you try to run, as well as HijackThis. It infects the Hosts files in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\. It disguises itself as "csrss.exe" and puts 3 entries in your start-up. My immense experience messing with Windows allowed me to spot it pretty quickly. I used Kaspersky to find out about the infection to the Hosts files. It's a Trojan horse. Anyway, I have instructed my girlfriend from this point on, to not matter what, click NO. Just wanted everyone to be warned.
  13. Terrific recommendation. I wouldn't go with anything else if I was on that budget. In Punto I Trust. hehehehe
  14. Bold's guide is for HIS XP. Not everyone's.
  15. lmao, still getting mentioned. I don't have much interest in continuing on with that. Anyway, here is the link. Maybe I will work on it again, dunno though. Thanks, MCT for that, takes only a mention to feel good about many hours spent again. Hougtimo, I will recommend you just sit back and be patient for future versions of nLite, seeing as Nuhi adds something new to the Remove List each time. I wouldn't recommend you using your time to go over lists to throw in 20+ DLLs when it doesn't really give you any performance boost. But, I understand. I once was obsessed with files. Cheers.
  16. You want the driver and not the software. I told you exactly how to do it. What else do you want?
  17. Alternative Rock
  18. Probably just some idiotic teenager jealous of the popularity of eBaum's site. CollegeHumor.com gets most new funny clips before eBaum's World does, but there's a lot of cool content that makes it a great site. I tend to ignore any www.<insertnamehere>sucks.com/org/net sites because of how immature it is to even have your website named that, it's so biased and the owner of the site is obviously jealous for one reason or another.
  19. Spy Sweeper isn't a good one to use. M$ AntiSpyware, Spybot and Ad-Aware are the top 3. That's even a rule at our college, hehe. Cheers.
  20. It only takes up 10 MBs of RAM and it's a **** good firewall. That's the why I recommended it. It's one of the best.
  21. That's rather retarded for a defragmentation program to only work with a port open? Sounds rather suspicious to me. That's why I use PerfectDisk. You could block the port on your firewall or on your router, but as you said, the program won't work? Lol, our avatars...
  22. If you only did a tad bit of searching, you'd see the perfect post only a few threads down in this same subforum... Check This Out Follow the same guideline.
