  1. just out of curiosity... why are you loading 98 and me? ive NEVER owned me, so ive never tried to use it in a dual/multi boot. haveyou tried something like partition magic? i think the have a demo...
  2. normal temp depends on your ambient room temp, case, case cooling, and what you are using to cool the cpu (stock heatsink from amd? water cooling?) id say any where from 35c to 50c could be considered "normal", depending on the above. that could be many things are you trying to go from 1.47 straight to 2.00ghz? the key to overclocking is going slowly. drop your multiplier down to 8. then,SLOWLY, start raising your fsb. depending on what kind and speed of your ram, you'll find the limit. the computer just wont post at that point. you can try adding voltage to the ram, or relaxing the timings to try to get more out of it. once you find a stable fsb speed you can start upping the multiplier. once it wont post, try raising the vcore to get it more stable. but be forewarned, raising voltage adds heat and too much can possibly fry your cpu. also make sure you have a very good cooling solution for your cpu. these are just general instructions.. there is alot more to it than just what i said above. try reading some of the boards at futuremark or try reading this thread at amdmb.com. some pretty good links in the amdmb thread... lastly, be careful when playing with the BIOS on that board. nforce2 boards corrupt the cmos pretty easily if you go tearing thru the bios making too many changes at once. i have had 4 nforce2 boards, and i havent corrupted one yet. i only make one or two changes at a time, hit F10 to save.. WAIT like 3 or 4 seconds before i hit enter to confirm the save and exit. good luck!
  3. plenty of places to drive fast...... i race at least once a month, year round. (autocross, rallycross, and ice trials in my subaru) you just need to look around for either local governing bodies or try the scca site, for those in the states
  4. latest and greatest , for me at least. my radeon just doesnt want to clock any higher than that. im gonna pull and lap the heatsink on it this weekend, see if i can get any more out of it. ive got some corsair xms pc3200LL coming tomorrow, so i can hopefully run some tighter mem timings... id like to hit 19k but i dont think its gonna happen w/ this radeon.
  5. i act younger than you.. does that help?
  6. actually, we are paid up till the end of the year. just gonna eat the cost. im actually kinda excited about it. but im also stressed. trial by fire kinda thing. no test lab, just gonna roll it out and keep my fingers crossed. we have been having problems already, and there are so many variables. this will help, as long as i can get it running. i wonder why i drink so much btw, how much for a domain name? never really looked into it before.. but nothing comes up for pornloader.org (get it? i know its dumb lol). is it even possible to get a .org if im not a non-profit blah blah blah?
  7. try this one, might work a bit better. also being a via chipset all you really should need are the 4 in 1's
  8. thanks for the replies guys.. as for the situation... currently email is hosted externally. we bought exchange 2k, and the owner of the company wants the email moved here (our host is horrible, it took him 5 weeks to add 2 email accounts. any contact is not responded to for at least a week, etc.). so i need to find out where my domain name was registered to, and have them point the mx/a record to my ip.... anything else i should know? remember, im not a net admin, but i play one at work...
  9. alright... how do i go about getting my mx record pointed to a different ip? tia
  10. im not familar w/ gigabyte mobos.. and i havent played w/ via's kt400 yet, so im not much help on that. is the fsb set by jumpers and in the bios? if anything, id set the jumper (if any) to auto detect and go from there. other than that you shouldnt have to change a thing (if the mobo detects the cpu right). if it doesnt you could always go and set it manually. just make sure you present bios supports the 2800, if not time to flash to a newer one.
  11. is that what is listed under model on the mainboard icon in sandra? i tried googling it, came up with nothing. also tried shuttles site and couldnt find anything on thier site about it either....
  12. zipp.. you are close they bothe have 128k of l1 cache. the barton cores have 512k of l2, while the t-breds have 256k. also the fsb is different between the cores.. bartons are 333, while t-breds are still 266. flash, where did you find a t-bred listed as a 2800? the only 2800 i see on amds site are the bartons. they do make 2 models of the 2600 tho (one of each core) i bought a 2500 and love it. it was cheap(er), the board i put it in unlocked all multi's, just a simple multipier change, and i was running at 3000 speeds, didnt need to change any voltages at all. what kind of mother board are you going to use with it?
  13. doggie, how far you can go depends on the rest of your gear. is it an oem like dell/hp? all oem's lock their fsb so you cant pump it that way, some of the intel 815s can depending on a few things..... if its a white box that someone built for you.. it depends. memory, psu, mobo all come into play. you might be able to get a small o/c outta it. xperties, the only intel chips i have "seen" that are multi unlocked are r&d pieces, and those only go to very very special people. in other words, not us.
  14. i could spend 2 days in paint... and mine still wouldnt look that good. sad aint it?
  15. what kind of computer are you running doggie? you could download this, then hit the system or mainboard icons. it'll give you a ton of info on what you are running
  16. looks like it was a mem voltage problem... dropped the fsb from 229 to 225, upped the vdimm to 2.7 from 2.6, it looks good to go. i havent overclcked w/ the radeon yet, time to go out and have some fun!
  17. what are you guys using to o/c your ati vid cards? ive tried the clock tab in the omega drivers, and radeonator 2.0... everytime i o/c the card (ati 9700 pro, retail), even a 5mhz o/c, 3dmark crashes at the fill rate. if i dont o/c the card, just the cpu it completes fine....
  18. intels 533 is 4 pipes x 133, or for their latest and greatest 4 pipes x 200mhz. amds are either 133,166,or 200 x 2pipes. no idea what the celerons are running now, but its probably 100mhz has anyone heard about the new amd durons? the thourghton core or something. its a 333 (166) fsb with 256 l2 cache. seems kinda odd if they are going to release a "value" chip that runs that quick. its gonna be hard to get the price under $100, if they do release it.
  19. well, i got some new gear this week. got another soltek mobo, and some samsung pc3200. so far im pretty happy with it. 229fsb for about $170. time to go find a good o/c util for my 9700 (dont like the omega one). see what i can do with 3dmark03
  20. has anyone seen the half-life 2 hi-res vid? i needed a new pair of drawers after watching that. i dont know if i can wait another 5 months for it.
  21. 5k stock, no o/c just gotta o/c, see if i can get 6k. doubtful, but its a goal...
  22. a faster cpu thats funny, mine is running at 39c from the internal diode (at 10.5 x 200, 1.725v), on air. reguardless, tha_filer, stock fsb for the 2500+ is 166(x11 for 1.83). amd decided to rate them higher than the 2400 because of the increased fsb and 512k L2. about the whole fsb thing... intels fsb is still running 133 just like amd's (for the most part). its just a question of x2 or x4.
  23. grassyass.. i like it. keeps me pretty happy. just want better/more memory. by the time i can drop the $300 for the corsair xms ll stuff, it'll be time to rebuild this thing.
  24. vcore at 1.725 vdimm at 2.6 the mem timings are a little lax (2.5-3-3-6) but i can only run them at 2-2-3-6 @my default 166, so im not giving up much. running a slk800 w/ a 36cfm ystech 80mm its reading 43c on my internal diode temp i just built a new ws for work on a 75mrn (onboard vid). ordered a 1700+ got a juihb. its running at 11x166 at all stock voltages, with crucial pc2100. that suprised the hell outta me. might have to bring that cpu home for a day or two, see what it can do.
