Okay...got it down quite a bit...didn't realize I was trying to post a 1.7mb pic. No person with 56K would want to even open it. Anyway...here it is. Rick

Trying to post...Fthrjack has a limit set on attachments and my pic exceeded it. Will try to use a capture prog to see if it takes up less space or make it smaller. Rick:hohum

Been thinking about that one and I do occasionally watch DVD's. Thing is, when I do want to play a game or some graphic intensive program, I want it to run smoothly. Don't want a video card slowing things down when everything else is trying to speed along. I can check computershopper.com but do you guys have a trusted site with good price on the ATI Radeon AIW?

Okay, this is no major issue but it one of those things that gets to me. My start menu has two sides...one with older installs separated by all the office suite icons and then another side with my newer apps on there. I just want one single start menu with all apps in alphabetical order so I can find any one them quickly. I have tried TweakXP and it alphabatizes but does not move the apps from one side to the other. Take a look at the pic below to understand what I mean. Rick

Hey, I am going to break down and buy a new video card but I have no need to buy one of the $200 dollar game mongor cards. I sometimes play MS Flight Sim but most of what I do is messing with apps and surfing the web. Not much of a game player. Although there will be probably 100 diff. suggestions, thought I would throw this out anyway before I make the plunge. To sum it up...looking for a lower priced, quality vid card. Rick

Haha! Didn't like my fish skinning link? Rick

LOL Chris! XP should be advanced enough where the dog licks my balls. Rick

Just wondering...I have seen Unreal in irc but what is the game description? In other words...what is this? Rick
-
Don't have a definite answer but I do not have a 16MB video and it still installed...I used the same iso as morpheus (from irc) and it warned me but still installed fine. If you are using Isobuster and still getting this message, looks more like a windows prob. to me. Rick

I don't think that Sandra will tell Aaron what he is asking for...the posts above tell the answer...look at the chip as I am sure Aaron has figured out by now. Here's what I got after researching and losing sleep over which new hardware to buy. Enlight Mid-Tower 72370X3C ATX Case 300 Watt Power Supply Bundled with an 80x80mm Case Fan--Dont' comment on P/S probs...I already know. 512MB of Crucial DDR PC2100 RAM 1.4gHz Athlon (Thunderbird) 266FSB processor And the mobo: ECS K7S5A Socket A Motherboard w/Sound. Not one that people are raving about but Tomshardware did a complete review using this board and the SiS® 735 System Chipset. Results show that this board was right up there with the top Athlon chipsets and board proved to be stable. Great price too. I will pull cables and other components from my current computer. Now I just have to wait for UPS to get all the parts to me! Rick

Yeah! Chris recommended this software and I have been very impressed with it. It will really come in handy when I get through with my major computer upgrade. Rick

I tell you that I am just stuck on the new KT266A chipset...not to be confused with the one that was released in April. I think this one is referred to as Pro or something like that. I saw a review of it on Tomshardware and it looks great but there is no list there for who plans on using this chipset in their boards. Any info on this would be greatly appreciated. Rick

Geez! Had no idea that was there...looks just like Partition Magic! Good eye on that one. Rick:eek:

If all the lights go out on your modem then you definetely have a modem problem because the power light should stay on always. Check out the links above and video card may be to blame, but if lights go out...its the modem. XP does have a built in firewall but it would not affect you in this way. If you do not know of another firewall, then you don't have one. I would suggest that if you continue to have probs, call your provider and have them do a network test to check your modem out. Rick
-
Yeah, sounds like it is going into a sleep mode or something. Make sure you also check settings in Power Management so that you have it set to restart when you tell it to do so. Also, any major software installs lately that may be causing this? Rick

You know...I get errors like this every time I try to install a new version of XP on my machine and I don't even use a disk...Isobuster. Because it is not a clean install, I can usually go find the file in the old installation and the d/l continues but I have no idea what that is doing to my newer install. I will be watching this post for any other suggestions...interesting. Rick
-
David...may not know the answer to your prob. but just a few questions. What do you mean when you say it dies? Is it external (do the lights go off on you)? Does this happen when you start up WinXP or does it just happen in the middle of what you are doing? Are you using a firewall? Rick
-
Okay, got signed on...firewall was blocking access. Rick
-
Oh man Aaron...you are seriously restricted from the best stuff...you'll have to write up a list and go d/l everything when you get home I guess. Even if I try to set up a .net account for msn, it won't connect to the server. I haven't seen anybody else complaining about it on here so it must not be a problem of which XP version I'm using. I'm using Sygate firewall (BTW--Chris, do you get a lot of code red attack alerts using sygate?) Rick

If sis sandra works for sure, then I want to get that and run it on my computer as well. Do you have it Aaron? I am going to look for it now. Like I told Chris, I am trying to fix it up so I can serve FTP but for some reason, nobody is ever able to sign on to me when I have BPserver running. Tried to get on IM with Chris but I am not able to get MSN to work from my computer. Rick

When you are getting frustrated out of your mind, then it is easy to forget stuff that is right in front of your face. LOL Rick

Chris, I will email you with details but I am basically building the same sys. as fthrjack. 1.4 gHz Athlon chip...266 FSB support Need ATX case with probably 300W fan. Mobo that supports DDR. DDR 256mHz...definetely going to buy from crucial.com I have all other components such as 30GB HD, DVD, Burner, Soundcard, modem, nic card, floppy drive, video card, new cooler master heat sink that cools up to 1.7gHz...all up to date enough for me except video but that will have to be phase 2. I have been reading tomshardware.com's reviews in order to research the best mobo's out there...I was looking at an enlight case with 300W PS and there were bunches of good reviews but then I got down to the not so good ones that complained about getting the case with PS not working at all or it dying in 3-9 months. Rick
-
Yeah, Chris sounds like the overclocker, build it yourself man. I want to upgrade my machine bigtime. I need an ATX case, I need a new mobo, fan supply, and CPU...if I go with the new DDR, then I will need some more RAM...but why not...the darn stuff is only $36 bucks at crucial.com. I'm not going to do some fast buying on this, I'm looking at reviews and picking out the best of each (with decent price in mind) Rick
-
Yeah Micro...would have a great supercomputer but it would burn my whole house down if I put it in my little case. Lets try again...900mHz. Rick:eek:

What is this...computer geek jeopardy? LOL JK Rick
