  1. Yeah...not a bad thing except that we can have some real time chatting when requesting files from each other but then there is MSN and you can give that out to those that you trust. Rick

    ATI Owners

I'm glad you posted that...got an ATI AIW card on the way to me now and I was wondering about compatibility. Just a side note...I know it's much easier for everybody to be able to click on the "here" link but we have to be very careful about posting active links on here. Just put a in a * as in h*tp:// when posting a link. Rick

    Fix start menu..

Yep...you got a lot there...that's what happens when you hang around the warez community. Bunch of junk that never gets used but you got it because you can. Rick
  4. Good to know Intense because I have an ATI AIW Radeon 32MB card coming in the mail. Have you had any other probs using this card under XP? Rick
  5. I use Mirc...it's easy to use for me and it was the most popular that I found when I first got into going on irc. It does DCC and is relatively easy to set up but I am sure that it can be argued that there is much better software out there such as Polaris but I will stick with what I know for now. Rick
  6. I know that you are right because I turned off Sygate and everything worked fine. Have you tried switching between two users while Tiny is running? That is where I get the prob. If I let my wife on, she has to turn off Sygate in order to check her email or surf when I have started running it on my side first and vice-versa. I will call my friend and ask him what he did because I'm pretty sure it wasn't getting a password or anything...not smart enough in this area. Rick
  7. I'm on cable and as I have already tried to server, people get a very slow connection from me. I am getting in touch with Knology tech support so they can come out here and explain why I am not even getting into 1% of my cap. Then I'll consider serving. Rick
  8. Whoa! Engligh! JK So what you are saying is that the new modems can't be hacked? I tried a cable uncap prog. and it did absolutely nothing. Rick
  9. Does that turn off burning abilities from built in XP burner? What does this do? Rick
  10. NikNT...take some time to look up networking tutorials on google.com and learn a little about them. It is vital that you have knowledge of things such as what a router is in order for you to have success in this forum and others. Rick:angel
  11. Thanx...I hate getting those stupid messages...Like M$ is going to do anything with it? Rick
  12. Yeah, cable advertises to be faster, however, you compete with bandwidth from every person that is on the same node as yourself...which greatly reduces bandwidth. You are on a dedicated up and d/l speed. Rick
  13. You do have a dynamic IP and it may pose problems for you...make sure you have settings as shown in attachment below. To be honest with you, nobody was able to connect to me for a long time and then Chris connected to me the other day but the connection speed was very slow. Don't know why it didn't allow me to connect and then it decided to let me...I didn't change a thing. Could be something to do with the dynamic IP??? Rick
  14. I have a cable modem connection and the d/l speed is very fast but the upload speed is capped. I am not sure of the exact cap that my ISP has put on but it is too slow to get anything from me. Just ask Chris. You have to look at your upload and download speed. Rick
  15. 1MB UP and DOWN!!! Something that fast will bust out your monitor and knock you across the room! Have fun and oh, never be afraid to ask me if I want to d/l something from you. LOL Rick:D
  16. Two things that are sort of similar...Lou, you talked about sockets and that reminds me of a fatal error that I keep getting that says "Could not bind socket" Do you have any clue what that would mean. I don't want to change my IP address but one of my friends did play a practical joke on me one time and he was able to send out, using his email address, an email that had the to: line from my girlfriend's dad at the time (It said blahblah@sceg.com.) He never did tell me how he did it...anyone care to clue me in on this? Rick
  17. Micro...thanx for the helpful? information. If you are really upset about it, go complain to TweakXP but as for this forum, the info is most always credited as was the case above and that is the best we can do. Cool tips Aaron. I wonder if these same features are being used in the tweakxp software cause that's what I use to get mem tweaks. Rick
  18. Oh! Take that back then. Screw you fthrJack!!! Xper, great job. Haha. Just kiddin' man...you've been working hard on this stuff. Rick:D
  19. Honestly, I was too impatient to do the full research and come up with anything cheaper than what I bought. I see that those who do the work manage to be able to find deals...maybe by next upgrade, I will be much more highly educated about this. Rick:rolleyes:
  20. Thanx for all your help guys...got this settled by sending back the chip for a 266FSB and I have bought a new full atx mobo that supports it. Rick
  21. Yeah, Cheers to FthrJack! This is one of the best looking forums I have ever seen and the ease-of-use factor is way up there too. Rick
  22. Yeah, I agree on Sygate as it is free and it is well supported in XP...I have only had probs. when I switch over to my wife's name and Sygate will not run on both but talked to Chris about this and he is not having the same probs. so must be me. As for the spike, if changing Firewall does not work, call your ISP and make sure there have not been probs in your area. I have had probs. in the past with a diff. cable provider and they didn't bother to let me know that everybody on my node was having outages and that it would be a month till getting it fixed. Rick
  23. I know that NVIDIA is probably the best out there but I don't need the best. I was looking at prices and some of those cards cost over $300 USD! I mean, that is more than I am paying for the rest of the system upgrade. I have seen ATI's in machines and they are good enough for me and I really like the All-In-Wonder because I can put a splitter on my cable and run cable TV to my PC and the 32 MB DDR will be able to handle it. This really is a good card to go with. Thanks for the help though AMB. Rick
  24. I agree with you on a lot of points and I took into consideration the fact that ECS has not always had stable mobo's but this one was benchmarked by serveral top net reviewers and recieved top ratings...value of speed for the money..which I had to consider. Bought the crucial PC2100 DDR and already got the Enlight case. Personally, I wish I had been a little more patient in picking out the case but the thing is ordered and on the way. Again, it has a high popularity and I went with the popular vote on this which may not have been the right choice. A plus for me though is that I made the decision to buy an ATI All-in-Wonder Redeon 32MB DDR video card. All is now ordered and on the way. For better or worse, I will have a new computer in about a week. Rick

    Fix start menu..

Haha...knew you guys would have something to say about my start menu...need to clean it up but for now...Aaron gave me a very simple way to get it all alphabetical. Just for reference: To tidy up your start menu...start->right click in start menu->sort by name. So darn easy but I like everything else in XP, I missed it. Rick:eek:
