  1. the ideal environment for software development would be a balance between commercial competetiveness and open source.. everyone gets to add and tweek something. Each models flaw is the others strength. pity someone cant come up with something inbetween the two.
  2. its Fluxbox. id like to try it, but odds on running it on lindows? next to 0 i bet. id beter pull my finger out and install debian, so i can play with stuff like that, im just lazy
  3. i hate mac mice, they suck. whats all this CTRL click business about, .. lame. heh a mac user would freak out if they had to use a ms intellimouse with 5 buttons or more lol i agree with gamma tho.. it is nice looking, but theres the same factor that XP has (though not as much) -- > its too kiddy friendly.
  4. Gamma what is that in the top right corner of your "me looking busy" screenie? looks like winamp... heh. cool skin whatever it is.
  5. The data might be damaged. This site has a usefull tool for recovering xls files: http://www.officerecovery.com/excel/ Dwnload the demo: Here Theres also another one at: http://www.excelfix.com/features_howto.shtml Download the demo: Here You could also try by opening the document in excel running it in safe mode. This will disable VBA and Add-ins. Click on Start then Run then enter (including the quotes and the /s extension): "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\excel.exe" /s if your still struggling and dont mind someone else seeing whats in the file i can try open it another way. but that tool should be all you need. hope it does the trick *copy the files off of the floppy and onto your desktop before running the recovery, if you manage to open them, save them elsewhere then bin the floppy.

  18. i find it amusing, all those sites that branded the famous "black comb" screenshot (the one with the winding road wallpaper) a fake, "done in photoshop" etc. So.. did MS base the new os on the fake piccy? or ms release the piccy of a layout idea? coincidence?

    Cable

NIC = network interface card. turn XP firewall off. do you have zonealarm installed? if so uninstall it, stupid true vector wants stabbing with a rusty broken saw blade, caused me many problems such as this. also, go to http://192.168.100.1/config.html its your modems config page. do you see any mention of a config file in there? you might find this page usefull: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d.h.wal.../surfboard.html

cannot find file?? what the hell, sound like your modems missing its config file. you did wait till the modem settled down before doing register dns? Have you tired it using USB cable? its one of two things, your modem is missing its config file, but as they got it working with a laptop i doubt it. try another nic, if you dont have one use usb till you can get one/borrow one. updated drivers? uninstalled it then reinstalled it? do: ipconfig /all and post result here, just out of curio

same modem as me, no doubt similar setup. this is on windows XP right? This sounds daft but have you tried the modem with the USB cable and see if that works? i know its a bit less reliable but if it works for now it works... before trying that, go to command console. type: ipconfig /flushdns then do: ipconfig /release turn your modem off, at the mains socket (or take the plug out of the back) standby will NOT work. reboot the pc. ok when the modem has been turned off for about 2 minutes reboot the pc. Then plug modem back in. ok now back at the command console do: ipconfig /registerdns then do: ipconfig /renew Any luck with that? other things to try as well as the above... check Nic drivers, uninstall Nic and reinstall it, check for driver updates for Nic at manufacturers site, turn XP firewall off, Try another Nic.
