ouiouioui, I assume since you are back, you still have a problem. Your Last Session.ini can usually be found in two places. Unless you turned off the option, there will be a copy in your source folder after you run nLite. There will also be a copy in the nLite folder. Look in C:\Program Files\nLite\Presets. The Last Session files are there with a date/time stamp. We are not going to be able to help you without the Last Session. I have translated this using Babelfish. Please let me know if it helps, and you can respond in French if you like.

dapaulid, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Can you access other sites on the Internet? Enjoy, John.

Angelico_Payne, I looked here, curious what was being posted in a 'sticky' that would consume 19 pages. I was surprised to see problems. I think it best to post problems in the main (non-sticky) part of the forum. Running nLite multiple times against the same source can lead to weird results. You cannot place .NET directly into nLite but you can use the RunOnce exit to install it. Here is a great guide (to XP x64), that includes .NET and its updates. If you have further questions or problems, please post them in the main forum section and , please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Enjoy, John.

illya_, in the future, please attach (not paste) your Last Session. I had a similar problem and my fix was to rerun nLite and include all languages. In general, people have reported here that after removing something, they were unable to get it back. You just need to be very careful not to remove anything you may possibly need in the future. Enjoy, John.

wwwoholic, you need to direct this issue to nuhi (owner/author). Reach him via PM or e-mail. Enjoy, John. EDIT:I looked at the switches available on the WMP11 installer and an update, see attached. The problem, as you will see, is that the WMP11 installer does not have a /integrate switch, meaning MS has decided that it cannot be integrated directly, which is how nLite works. I was wrong, wwwoholic, you should direct this issue to MS not nuhi. To get more information, I suggest communication with WMP11 Slipstreamer's author, Boooggy. I do wonder what would be the benefit of you effort? Enjoy, John.

Ashbringer, have you done a search here? Lots of people have had this same problem. It appears to be a .NET problem. Remove it and reinstall. Please let us know if that cures your problem. Enjoy, John.

Kev_83, this is a tough question to give a definitive answer. Others will have different opinions, but I think Windows will run faster, just not much. Removing components will reduce the size of the CD and HDD files and reduce the time required to install. Stopping/removing services may yield more speed benefit as well as some tweaks. You can spend some time looking at Black Viper's site to decide which services. Enjoy, John.

JenniferArden, glad you got it fixed. Have fun! John.

wwwoholic, I don't know how nLite discovers that the hot fix is really WMP11 and needs WMP11 Slipstreamer. Perhaps it uses the name, so you might try renaming. I do see WMP11 Slipstreamer in the nLite folder in the Program Files folder. I did mean the WMP11 you found in the Download folder. I do have a couple of updates in that folder but they are the latest security updates and not WMP11. Enjoy, John.

wwwoholic, OK, I learned something. I am running XP x64, and have no updates in my C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download folder - only several folders and files with what looks like a GUID for a name. Please let us know what you learn when you try the WPM11 update (from WUD) in nlite. Enjoy, John.

Bethrezen, here is the size (Not Size on disk) and MD5 for IE7-WindowsXP-KB961260-x86-ENU.exe: 8.58 MB (9,006,448 bytes) MD5 32A7184EE6DBB39EE418BAD149F1660C Please check to see that yours agree. Are your updates in the proper order? Did you install IE7 before this update? Please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Enjoy, John.

wwwoholic, I suspect this is an older version of WMP11. Go to properties on both files and select the Version tab, select the Version in the area below. The one I just DLed says 11.0.5721.5145. One I found on the Internet (not from MS) is a lower number. You can sure try it, but I suspect it will work the same as the latest. The best way to check if files are the same is to compare the hash values. And, if you compare the size, don't use 'Size on disk' (as you did), because, I think this can vary according to the type of HDD. Enjoy, John.

MNcamper, I'm glad the users are at least there. I don't fully understand where you are talking about that the cute little icons don't show up. Are you talking about the Welcome or Login Screen? How did you login to the user account? Go to User Account (via Control Panel) and see what is set in 'Change the way users log in or off'. Are both options checked or just one? I still don't know what the 9th (last) field defines in the _u.ini file but another difference in mine vs yours is I define a description under Personal (Unattended>Users) and it shows up as field three. I also define only one account and it has Administrator status. Please let us know what you learn. Enjoy, John.

JenniferArden, weird is right! Perhaps your system just needed a Restart. I find modified dates hard to rely upon. Please check the hashes of the files involved. I use HashTab, but there are many other free ones available. I hope you still have the file with the right date but some odd behavior. The file you put into the $OEM$ folder will still be on your CD/DVD. Please let me know what you learn. I will cease giving you a hard time about your update policy. Enjoy, John.

hood, at the top of the Options section of nLite is the Profiles Directory. I hope this is what you are asking. Enjoy, john.

JenniferArden, if this works for you, fine. It seems suspicious to me but I would think it has nothing to do with your Shell32 problem. When your system is installed does WUD want to install SP3? Here again, you can do what works for you, I just don't understand how future updates are going to work. Have you tried to put Shell32.dll in the $OEM$ folder? It is hard for me to determine what is in the past and what is now. When did you find the Shell32.dll in your i386 folder? Enjoy, John.EDIT: I have been wondering about your original Shell32.dll that you modified. I suspect that something has updated it, causing your problem. When I modified my Shell32.dll, I copied the one from my old host machine with complete updates to start. Perhaps you should consider capturing a fresh, latest copy to modify. You also realize, as I, that some future update may modify it and wipe out our changes. I will deal with that when it happens. John.

mgancarz, I don't suspect these (QoS...). See this site about services. Again, I urge you to try my suggested experiment and we'll go from there. The fact that those two KBs are in the update pack, but WUD says they are not installed, is a real problem that I would not sluff off. Enjoy, John.

MNcamper, in your _u.ini, the last field on the three added users is false for all three. On mine (which works) it is true. I am not sure, but I suspect this reflects the checking of the Active box on the Users tab in Unattended. Select each of the users and check the Active box. I also suspect all the users are on your installed system, only inactive. Go to the User Accounts page under Control Panel and see if they are there. If so, you can set them active there. Please let us know what you learn. Enjoy, John.
-
Ponch, exactly what does this mean to us? Thanks, John.
-
mgancarz, since I don't know anything about update packs, I always suspect them. I suggest you remove everything in the Hot Fix section and see if that works on VM. A couple of things I am wondering about: is IE7 in the update pack? are your updates in order and not duplicates of the ones in the update pack? Please let us know what you learn. Enjoy, John.
-
SloppyGoat, I don't understand. Did you run the experiment I suggested? Did you try placing the update pack AFTER the IE7 install file? Have fun, John.
-
MNcamper, adding a user works fine for me. Please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Also, please attach your Last Session_u.ini, but MASK ALL your private data (put xxx in for passwords, CD key, etc). Enjoy, John.

TedJBrown, I think your idea is a good one - give it a try! Well, just take a .JPG file and convert it to a .JP_ using makecab (not really making a cab). It seems like I have seen the very thing being done. Do some searching, but trying is just about as easy. Enjoy, John.

SloppyGoat, like I said, there have been several posts about DHCP issues. As far as I know there is no way to just set it in nLite. We can asked nuhi to change nLite, but if and until he does, we have what we have. I explained two options to do it yourself. BTW, I think if you specify Adapter parameters without a MAC address, nothing is applied because the adapter could not be identified. Please click the ? in a circle next to the parameter lists for the adapter definition. If you integrate an SP into your original CD files/folders and use this as the source for subsequent nLite runs, you should be OK. If you integrate an SP more than once or multiple SPs, you will have a mess. I suggest you start over. Make a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, run nLite without the RVM stuff and see if you get a solid, stable Windows. I am running XP x64 and I use Kurt_Aust's great guide. I recommend you take a look. He has all the updates after SP2. WinUpdatesDownloader never was current for x64 and update packs for x64 are fairly new and cause me to relinquish a significant amount of control. Please let us know what you learn on the experiment I suggested. Enjoy, John.
