This link came in my email today.... How much are they paying this prat Paul Thurrott to mouth off about Windows 10 There isn't much substance to the video...just a lot of waffle...!!!!!!!!!!!! Windows 10 is just masses of crap popping up and distracting your eyes from what you want to do....how can anyone think this is something special...?!!!!!!!!!!!!! "Windows adapts to the hardware it is on" Does this mean that the computer dies and is a brick...?!!!!!!!!!! "updated universal mobile apps platform" That is his number one reason for upgrading....what a dick head. "Better support for hardware" Now this means that the computer dies and is a brick.....??????!!!!!!!!!!!! He obviously doesn't fix computers for a living... Still p***ed off with this crap.... bookie32

Thanks submix8c! Yes, I agree about the updates...but there is so much crap now it is hard to keep on top of these things....;) I do thank you for your time! bookie P.S. I recognised this update from a list I downloaded before and this first one behaves just the same KB3102810 it searches for updates and searches, and searches... Microsoft couldn't organise a p***up in a brewerey............!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi guys... I am having quite a lot of problems with this update... I have a new laptop to a customer and that has Windows 7 Pro...All I have done so far is start the computer, add user details and nothing more... I always update the computers I build or buy before handing them over to the customer... As soon as this laptop was started I searched for updates and the above update agent was installed.... I have had this computer searching for hours and hours and it hasn't come with any updates...?!! I have had another computer that has been reset to factory settings and has had the above update installed and nothing is happening... I have read so many threads on this problem update...just wondered if someone can give me the right solution to my problem bookie32

~♥Aiko♥Chan♥~ As a company that gives support to those who need it...I have to deal with this crap on a daily basis... I do remember a little from the time when XP was popular (still is, I hasten to add... ) Windows 7 was with us and if we wanted to upgrade to XP there was a program from Microsoft that supposedly checked your computer to see if Windows 7 would work on your hardware...at the time I was just happy that Microsoft cared enough to make sure our computers would survive the upgrade.... Since then I have got older, more grumpy and most of all cynicle to anything that comes from Microsoft....A free uppgrade to Windows 10....can't say I have ever trusted Microsoft's intentions with this move... I haven't read anywhere where Microsoft apologises (give me links anyone) to the public for the problems, costs Windows 10 has caused them...of course, the happy ones according to the way Microsoft seems the think these days...would suggest that they outway the unhappy ones....if that is actually the case... The experts here would definitely give good reasons why Windows 10 is a good OS or would they? I don't personally trust Microsoft as a company any more...maybe I was naive to think there could be honour amongst thieves ... Well, the Borg assimilate....so why shouldn't Microsoft...."Resistance is futile"... One good note...allbeit small...Many large companies, banks, etc don't trust in Microsoft for their security systems backups etc...Linux is the preferred choice.... bookie32

Hi NoelC! Well, I still get called nerd and I am not sure if that is the same as geek....anyway, I haven't anywhere near the amount of geek skills as you guys to start fixing things in the same way as you do... I do understand that things have become worse regarding spying even in Windows 7...I avoid cloud services etc... I just wonder where all of this is going to leave us in about ten years down the road.... We get barcodes going into big functions now...how long before we have them a a daily requirement... Not in my life time I don't think....hope....lol bookie32

Hi NoelC! I think you have hit the nail on the head....I have seen many press releases that will point to the fact that Microsoft have sent out Windows 10 as a recommended update and obviously don't care or are counting on those that are so fed up with the popups "saying it is time to upgrade your computer" that they unwillingly dismiss the scheduled update as just another anoying popup... I have pointed out to my customers that they are still in the position to say no....or are they....:) I think, from all that has been written on this site, Microsoft don't give a **** ... I also feel that there is something in the fact that this data collection OS is just the tip of the iceberg....The American government seem to like spying on everyone.....this OS makes the job easier for them... Time will tell................................. bookie32

Hi Guys! Sorry, been away...father is not too good!! While I was in England my phone didn't stop ringing....customers very upset that they see their computers updating and when they restart them it is Windows 10...!!! Of course, many have just ignored the white icon for ages and didn't think about the message that Windows 10 is scheduled to install at 22:00 or whatever.... Sending out this upgrade as a recommended update makes me ******* angry!! As I said before, when a seed is sown and receives the right nourishment it will grow and grow.... Even more of my customers are going over to Mac....;) I lways was under the impression that programs/software that install on our computers (without our say so) is given the label PUP (potintially unwanted programs) ....I have to fix such problems nearly every day... What do we class an upgrade that is scheduled as an update...that we haven't said OK to? Isn't that a PUP or the better name for such crap Malware? Seriously, tell me how this move is going to impress customers? bookie32 (very angry bunny!!)

Sorry, I still can't see the attraction of Linux in Windows...Linux is Linux and Windows is Windows...leave them alone! It would be better if the games manufacturers started taking Linux seriously and then put Microsoft and us out of our misery...!! As I have said befor, Microsoft would not survive without the games community.... Dual booting is one thing but this is just plain daft... My opinion for what it is worth...;) bookie32

I think it is a sad day if the Linux community are going to collaborate with Microsoft!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is bad enough that Microfoft produce crap....what is their intention now?!!! What could the Linux community possibly gain by this venture?!!!!!! The sad thing is some will actually think this is a good thing....?!!!!!!!!! Thank god Canonical doesn't speak for the whole Linux community Can't believe that Mark Shuttleworth would want to get in to bed with the Microsoft cretins... bookie32

It would seem that if we look in general at what Microsoft is producing...it is more unpolished, unfinished, not thought through, boring, prone to problems....the list is much longer than my feeble attempt...but you get the picture... I honestly think Windows 10 is just plain crap and as for the "computers load faster" very over rated and not true at all in many cases as people have commented on here.... Still getting customers saying they upgraded to Windows 10 because they were having problems with Windows 7 and Windows 8.1??!!....but these are people that are only interested in their email and newspapers...;) Maybe I have been unfair to Windows 10. The learning curve from XP, Vista, and Windows 7 were not too much to get to grips with....but I just don't see any logic to the new version....that might be me.... At the risk of repeating myself and making myself look even more stupid...I really had respect for Microsoft and the products they produced...I always thought Microsoft knows best. I wouldn't even question the installation of updates recommended by Microsoft.....Those days are gone. My eyes are now wide open...and I do not like what I see!! I will also admit (not to offend) that I didn't like Windows 8 when it came on the scene....just not a fan of all the apps everyone talks about nowadays...;) I didn't think Windows 8.1 was much better on the surface....the nuts and bolts I leave to you guys....I still haven't come to terms with the tumble dryer...(as I call it)...;) But I have reinstated many computers now and customers generally prefer Windows 8.1 over Windows 10... What happens after the cut off date for the free upgrade?.....still can't get my head around the free bit.... bookie32

Hi guys! I have been following the comments here and NoelC...I have, like you, come to the conclusion something is seriously wrong with the direction Microsoft is taking....the trouble is a lot of my customers haven't a clue about the outs and ins of their Windows OS...and they don't want to know... they just accept anything that is put in front of them....I also agree that if something is being pushed on us without our consent...that in my book is Malware... A lot of my customers are old age pensioners and I am not to far away from pensioner status myself....help...;) They have just resigned themselves to the inevitable..Microsoft is all they know and even if a lot go over to Mac...there still will be a lot that just ignore everthing bad about Microsoft so long as their computer is running OK...they can check their email, have a look at an online newspaper or two.... I know Microsoft are big but if a seed is sown and it is fed with the right furtilizer it is only a matter of time before the seed becomes a plant and then.... Discontent is not something that even Microsoft can laugh about forever... I generally am very disappointed in the way things are going and will do as I have said before...utilise Windows 7 for as long as I can and then call it a day with Microsoft... bookie32

Yep, I agree! I have installed 2013 and 2016 and their is always something that doesn't gel...Still have office 2010 and will keep it....;) I only recommend 365 for larger companies....but even that has caused me grief...

Yes, consider yourself slapped....;)

Sorry, no idea... If I was to ring their support I would get a very helpful person telling me to repair or reinstall....this time as soon as I started the Outlook it discovered a problem and a I and I tried running "Repair"....but of course this does not just check Outlook but the whole of Home & Business...so, the I had to wait while it did its thingy...It removed all the icons in the toolbar and when it was finished they reappeared again..... Sorry If I confused any one by saying that I reinstalled office myself... I was hooked up to one of my customers that I mentioned to fix other things yesterday...It would seem in Microsoft's infinite wisdom Picture Manager disappeared in Office 2013 and then 2016.... Microsoft is always removing things that customers love for their own good.... When I checked this with Microsoft I was told "Yes, that is true but you can edit your pics with Word"..............?!! Try explainig that to a customer.... I fixed the Picture Manager by taking a copy from Office 2010...I know, I am a bad boy... Another thing is when I was looking for a program I usually install in all customer computers I noticed that their was nothing apart from tools in the Microsoft Office directory...the software was automatically reinstalled by running repair but it has left Word, Excel, Powerpoint etc in the main menu and not its own directory...?!! Once again this is the Big Brother attitude deciding what is best for us mentality... My customer doesn't want me to reinstall the software at the moment because things are working...but it does make you wonder why the Office Repair Tool did that.... bookie32

Hi guys! I try to always offer my customers the opportunity of resetting their computers to factory settings...if that partition is still intact...but unfortunately that doesn't work so well as it once did...almost as soon as I reset the computer Microsoft wants to update Windows update...and more offten than not it goes pearshaped after that... I just find it a pain having to fix such problems...It has got to the point where I just don't want to be bothered any more... I try to keep an updated sysprep version that I can install.... I still get customers that are totally convinced that Microsoft knows best and they just accept what is dished out...and then others have no hair left and have decided to buy a Mac... God help is other manufacturers start adopting Microsofts way of doing things....soon we will have planes without wings....trains with out tracks....bit worrying...;) I have had two computers in a row where the customer has bought Office 2016 Home and Business...(two different computers)...I have setup Outlook for their email etc and then turned of the computer when all updates are installed... The customers have come to pick up their computers and what happpens....I start them to show them the new features of office 2016...and on both computers it has stopped working and I have had to reinstall the software.... It is embarrassing to say the least... It doesn't build their confindence in me...!! I think a lot of software from Microsoft is just plain crap!! bookie32

Hi phaolo! Don't worry I usually get told off by jaclaz if I miss something....thanks....now I understand....Doh! Thanks! bookie56
-
Hi jaclaz... That is just it...the files don not exceed the max length of 260 characters...some are only 50-60 and if I shorten them it works... But as I said before some files with longer names have no problem being copied?! bookie56
-
Hi guys! This is something that bugs a lot of people and including me.... I have tried to move a lot of my courses .mov files to my server but Microsoft comes up with a file name too long error.... There are no special characters... Some of the files moved have longer names? What is it that causes this problem? bookie32

Hi guys! To be fair Microsoft is quite good at releasing a new OS that isn't anywhere ready for the unsuspecting public....BUT that is no excuse for the way they have gone about it.... I am still getting a steady flow of customers that have Windows 10 with or without their consent....that need resetting to either Windows 8.1 or Windows 7...!!! My customers share the same opinion as me....if we want the crap called Windows 10 then it is up to us to choose and not have it forced down our throats whether we like it or not... Yes, I know many will say that Microsoft will survive this....insult to our intelligence...but why don't they try to be a bit more professional about it.. I keep saying that an upgrade is never a good idea and I have been proved right time and time again....it is hard trying to convince those that want Windows 10 to do a fresh install and start with a clean slate....It is just too expensive for the average Joe who doesn't know anything about computers...they live with their upgraded machines until they show signs of problems and then maybe I can convince them....;) Even if they get most bugs ironed out with Windows 10...they will never get away from the fact they have caused countless thousands to have to buy new computers because they just stop working or resetting them/ reinstalling them to a previous version...In the past one accepted that Microsoft knew best....or the illusion that they do...but they are just plain arrogant!! Why is the an end of life for Windows 10 according to Microsoft 2025? Does that mean we will finally be rid of Microsoft......;) I like helping customers with their computer related problems of course they are charged for my time....what I don't like is making money out of them for Microsoft's arrogance!!!! This feeling that they just don't give a **** is not something that is just going to go away overnight.... bookie32

Hi Budws! I personally will not bow down to Microsoft pressure.... More and more of my customers are ringing and saying..."but I didn't say yest to Windows 10" A while back a Mac wouldn't have been an alternative for many...but now it is talked about because they are just plain fed up with being forced into something they don't want. I even subscribe to a computer magazine here in Sweden called Datormagazin...I sent in many mails about why they don't write about the negative side of Windows 10 and what Microsoft has been up to....it seems I wasn't the only one to think that....but their response was half hearted and nothing one could get ones teath into... Only time will tell... bookie32

Hi guys! Because I was forced to reinstall two of my computers because of a dodgy image I created some time back... Anyway, I have monitored the updates all the way and not allow Windows to update itself... You can understand my surprise today when I started my works computer and to see the familiar Windows 10 icon.... What is even more strange Windows update had been reset to automatic updates.... Do Microsoft really think this is the way to get people to upgrade to this crap?!!! Even if I monitor the updates Microsoft seems to have got around that.....?! Am I missing something here...has this already been discussed? Just plain fed up with Microsoft and the crap you have to deal with!! bookie32
-
Hi guys! Been busy here....;) Well, I am losing count of the computers that I have reset from Windows 10 to '7 or '8.1.... I gave this thread a good title and it suits!! I even had a customer yesterday that had her computer upgraded till '10 and came to me the day afterwards....I backed up her files that (she hadn't done of course) and then used the so called reset from Microsoft that has only ever worked once... It restarted and went into repair mode because it couldn't start Windows 7....It never came out of that mode working.... So, as always I just set the computer back to factory settings and start from there... Microsoft has lost the plot and even if there come fixes and upgrades...why release a beta version in the first place....because let's face it it is a beta version.... I can't see Microsoft changing anything and it is just a waste of time thinking they will.... I am now getting a gentle flow of customers going over to Mac....who can blame them! I will be doing the same When Windows 7 dies... bookie32

Why am I getting English Menus after installing Swedish IE
bookie32 replied to bookie32's topic in Windows Vista
Hi again Well, for me I just don't think that Microsoft can cut it....always problems... I have tried to build a new sysprep image in VMware and am not getting anywhere.... I have taken a basic installation of Vista Business 32 without service packs... After installation I have gone into edit mode and let Vista update itself.... This went ok until the so called 1.9mb Vista sp1 update....waste of time...kb936330 this just wants to keep on installing over and over....?!!! You are forced into downloading the full version and installing that...Windows6.0-KB936330-X86-wave1 I then let it update itself to sp2....OK... After the installation I can't search after updates unless the new update agent is installed...7.6.7600.256 and now nothing?!! The computer has stood for several hours and nada!!! If I start IE because it is IE 7 it wants to update the browser and takes you to a page where you can update it....click on the link and I end up with a 64bits version of IE9?!!! If I try and download and install the Swedish version IE9-WindowsVista-x86-sve I end up with English menus?!!! Does anyone have anything good to say about Microsoft because I am fast losing my patience with this crap.... No one should have to spend hours fixing a computer that doesn't update... This is a completely new build and it still doesn't work?!! Not a happy bunny! bookie32 -
Why am I getting English Menus after installing Swedish IE
bookie32 replied to bookie32's topic in Windows Vista
I have a Swedish installation so i expect Swedish... -
Hi guys! I am getting fedup with download the right IE files and installing them only to find the actual drop down menus are in English instead of Swedish....?! I have a standard Vista Business 32 without service packs and updating a basic image is not easy when your webbrowser is too old... So, to get over that hurdle I down load the equivalent version in Swedish only to find that I have English Menus....?! All the settings are for Swedish so what causes this? This is happening after installing IE Explorer 9.0.8112.16421 bookie32
