Hi jaclaz! Interesting read.... bookie32

Hi again! NoelC I agree Microsoft did the ground work with ReFs but as you say never really finished it seems to be a theme of theirs that has followed them all the way through from the very beginning... Let us face it...Microsoft saying that they want feed back from their users in order to improve the OS.....I haven't seen much evidence of them actually listening to the users... While I do understand there is a need for big corporations to satisfy the share holders.. should it then come at a cost that even they don't agree with? While the signs are not there at the moment that Microsoft are really struggling as a corporation... how long is it going to take before the seeds of doubt are sown wide enough for people to go to Linux or Mac? I am getting many customers saying "No" they don't usually read the agreements that follow releases of Windows...not many laymen would even if they could understand the jargon used... I am getting a lot of pensioners that just don't want to be bothered with a laptop, desktop computer any more and are using buying ipads...They just want to check the local newspapers, write a email to the friends, surf the internet.....and don't want a standard laptop, desktop computer... I am not saying that they are any better at understanding their ipads but they are working already with an environment that is like Mac or Linux A lot of my customers don't even really understand the basics of the system they use and don't want to...they don't even familiarise them selves with the basics of everyday usage... so, I don't think it would be much of a step for them to move to Mac or Linux and get a system that the developers are proud of and making things better is paramount and not pleasing the shareholders!! I would be happy to teach any customer about Mac and Linux and avoid all this crap from Microsoft! Just because a lot of people went out an bought a new Windows 10 computer or upgraded from Windows 7 or 8/8.1 thinking that Microsoft has always released a crap version and then a good one, so it was a natural thing to believe they got it right with Windows 10... but people do read the news and do not like what they are seeing regarding the new conditions of use agreements from Microsoft that we are all talking about... What I mean is enough people were ****** at the release of Windows 8 and the pathetic excuse for an upgrade to that Windows 8.1 and now the seeds of doubt are being sown with the crap surrounding Windows 10! Even in responsive web design there is a tendency to go from the telephone, ipad up to the desktop/laptop and not the other way around....!! Obviously more and more are using their telephones or ipad over a traditional desktop computer - but as I said before the games community still say that a telephone or ipad isn't going to replace the standard computer any time soon or maybe never... who knows....SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MICROSOFT get back to basics and develop a desktop environment that we all can be happy with and stop this prying into our personal lives just to "improve our experience"... Does anyone actually believe that crap? bookie32

Hi guys! I think there is more scope in the Linux kernel for growth and development! I like the idea of Linux being developed by masses av individuals all over the planet and not just one corporation that go under the heading Microsoft!!! What would really clinch this is the games developers could see further than the ends of their noses and develop games for the Linux kernel and then I am certain many would go over to Linux... Yes, before any one says it...I know you can play windows games on Linux in Wine but that isn't quite the same as total support.... As long as games are demanding and demand powerful computers to run them - then the scope for Windows desktop development is still there... I think the day is a long way off when Battefield 4 and games like it can be played on an ipad....and who in their right mind would want to do that anyway? I still build games computers that are more and more powerful for my customers...The technology in them is fantastic! **** the telephone market and its crap! Get back to basics Microsoft and accept that it isn't going to work having one OS that works on all platforms if you are going to keep the PC users happy! bookie32

Yes, you are probably right... Well, in that case it remains to be seen what they come with now....
-
Hi NoelC! Thank you so much for your comments! I just think it is a shame that this is happening at all....!! It makes me wonder if this is the end of Microsoft as a company that anyone in their right mind would trust.... I have been wading through the so called Privacy Agreement and Service Agreement and it doesn't make for light reading... Like so many have said already....how many of us actually read such agreements... I certainly will not be upgrading my computers and have already removed the annoying pop up... I have a couple of programs that I have used on Windows for years and now I am looking for alternatives for Mac or Linux.... I have paid for Adobe CS6 which is getting on a bit now...but that is only a Windows version and now one can't buy the software from Adobe....another beef of mine....lol... It remains to be seen how Microsoft are going to redeem themselves after this fiasco!! Forgot to say...my computers with Windows 7 are all showing attempts at installing Windows 10 and I haven't even reserved the right to upgrade!!!!!!!!! bookie32

Hi guys! well, I was ranting as well...but I am even more ****** at their infringement of our personal rights with their prying into our every move... Microsoft have been brought up on charges before but this takes the cake! I will not recommend to any of my customers this so called free upgrade.... I just find it sad that with a forum like this, with the knowledge that a lot have here that microsoft just don't listen!!! Now they are so big that they think they are immune to being brought to account for their actions!!

Hi Guys! When I mean official I mean I am making it official that I think it is the worst ever... While I can understand that Microsoft want a OS that works on all platforms - they fail to recognise the genuine complaints of long term users! Computers are getting more powerful every day, screens are getting larger and more advanced. and yet we are given a OS that is basically designed for a telephone screen. What happened to nice gradient colours etc? It is so **** boring? Your general users do not care what improvements are made to the engine...they want it to look and feel good as well! A telephone is a telephone in my opinion and I want an OS that looks good on the ever increasing sizes of desktop screens! The start menu is a mess! Once again nothing is logical about the setup of things.... If this is the best they can come up with I will keep one computer as Windows for my customers and then the others as Linux.

Hi again! I have tried removing the installed version and installing the Swedish one but it fails and the link goes no where...?!!
-
Hi guys1 I have a customer computer that had a few problems and a ton of updates to install.... When IE 9 installs it gives me a English menu...this seems to happen a lot on computers that have had AOL installed on them. Even though IE 9 is installed it continually wants to install the same package.... I have looked at the language settings and it shows Swedish being installed but still the English menu? I have looked for a full offline version of IE Swedish version but can't find it...? What do I do to install IE 9 but still have Swedish menu? bookie32
-
Hi guys! The above package wouldn't install, so I downloaded and installed it manually...but it keeps coming up on windows update and fails as Before? What can I do to rectify this? bookie32
-
Thanks guys! Brilliant!
-
I don't want to fix the screen?! I have had the computer running well with an external monitor...the laptop replacement is too expensive for this computer...so giving me such links is not that helpful... Thanks anyway...
-
Well, like I say I can't boot to a cd because I can't get any boot info on a external monitor...the laptop screen is dead...
-
Hi guys! I have a computer laptop with a dead screen and the customer has been using an external monitor.... Problem... on login he is getting a black screen and nothhing...I suspect malware. I can't boot from a CD because he hasn't one and even if I use an external usb cdrom...don't get any boot screen on external monitor... Is there a way to edit the registry by moving the drive to another computer? Or can I get to cmd from login window...? bookie32

I hope Microsoft is not intending to restrict "Search Providers" with their new product Spartan... Was this update just a mistake regarding restricting the adding of new search providers... OR is it their way of saying you will use Bing even if you think it is crap...? I hope Spartan can live up to expectations... Not that hopeful though... bookie32

Well, back to blue screens again...going to block IE 10 and 11 again if there isn't a better fix for this? bookie32
-
Hi again! Little update.... This update cannot be applied on this computer ..kb2834140...? I have installed the 64bit version of kb2670838... So, what gives? bookie56
-
Hi PinkFreud! OK I will give it a try.... Can't remember now ....but I am sure I tried all solutions before and it still didn't stop the blue screens.... I will keep you posted on the outcome... Thanks! bookie32
-
Hi guys! A while ago there was the problem with Windows IE 10 and 11 on certain computers...KB2670838 caused blue screens on a lot of different brands of laptops etc... Now I removed and blocked the Windows IE 10 and 11 because of the blue screen problem....but I have just received a computer with the exact same problem....Windows IE 10 and 11 were still blocked but KB2670838 had slipped under the net and was causing blue screens again... I have removed it and everything is OK again....but how do I block it...I have had windows search for updates and it isn't coming up as an update.... How do I block an update that doesn't show up as an update? I don't want my customer getting caught with this crap again.... bookie32 P.S. I am so glad that IE is going down the toilet....should have happened years ago....

Hi guys! God I hate windows 8.1!! I have tried to run update trouble shooter and it fixes things and then on shutdown windows wants to the same updates.... I have looked at each one in turn and tried to download them and install them...then I get they are already installed...something isn't right.... What do I do now? bookie32

Install the Windows Performance Tool Kit (WPT)
bookie32 replied to MagicAndre1981's topic in Windows Tips 'n' Tweaks
Sorry, it was taking between 2minutes to 2 minutes 45 seconds to start totally and be usable...so even if it isn't the fastest starter in the world of computers with the latest technology...SSD drives etc...I think for an old computer that is pretty impressive....lol Am I making myself clear......? bookie32 -
Install the Windows Performance Tool Kit (WPT)
bookie32 replied to MagicAndre1981's topic in Windows Tips 'n' Tweaks
Hi MagicAndre1981 Sorry! I wasn't very clear... When installing SDK you are given several options of what you want to install and I had missed the one under Common Utilities... I only saw the link under Redistributable Packages and not Common Utilities... When I rerun the SDK installer...then I noticed it and installed it OK... I ran the WPT and it shaved over a minute on the startup time... bookie32 -
