Just a little update regarding the sfc /scannow problems.. I have mounted the original image in vmware and ran sfc /scannow and it came up errors.... So, somewhere along the way I added some sort of Malware to my image and that is probably the reason for sfc detecting it now and not fixing it... This means that two of my main computers are using this image and will need redoing to make sure that it is OK.... I haven't a clue where the problem came from but am keeping an eye on things om my work computer as I add my programs again... It might not really be causing a problem just don't like loose ends... Thanks! It could just be an indication that a virus had once been on the system, not that there is one now. Or it could be nothing. Its hard to tell when searching for things online. Most people consider reinstalling Windows to be a fix. When you first setup Windows, going through OOBE you should choose to not install Updates. The OOBE screen only gives 3 choices, rather than the full options you get when you go into the Update settings. Choosing either of the 2 green options will make Windows Update search for updates to install. P.S. Microsoft doesn't give a **** about what your settings are regarding updates....Just had my computer connected to the internet to activate my license and as soon as that was done I get an icon in my system tray for upgrading to Windows 10...I had set to "Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install" but it still installs KB3035583 without my consent.....

Hi guys! Probably in the wrong place with this one... I have a customer with a high resolution Lenovo Yoga Pro who uses an external Screen when at work...The resolution 3200x1800 She hasn't a standard docking station for this model and uses a Samsung 24 inch external screen via mini display port to HDMI cable...The resolution 1920x1080 I have tried a third party application (can't remember off hand) and that seems to work to a certain degree...for the external screen... The problem is when she connects to the external screen her desktop icons are in an order she made and we saved with an application... The problem is when she goes back to the laptop screen it is chaos again and she needs something that will work on both screens.... If there is a simple answer...please say... If it means a third party application...can someone point me to something that will work on both screens despite resolutions etc... Looking for a solution that will be simple to implement each time she goes back to laptop or connects to external screen Thanks as always for you time! bookie32 P.S. I have posted in wrong place....Windows 8.1....sorry!!

Thanks Tripedacus! One lives and learns... OK I will have to set about reinstalling....not a five minute job...I now have my basic sysprep image and can work from that.... I even tested the image to make sure and it comes up no errors... Because of all the crap surrounding Windows 10 what are the updates to avoid and is their a registry hack that can disable the Windows 10 upgrade that wont break the system.... I have seen this app and wondered if anyone has any experience of it and if it can cause problems? I am looking to stop Windows 10 and try and save myself being on my guard all the time... I have noticed that the KB3035583 installs even if you have hidden it... Some advice would be helpful if you have the time... Thank you! bookie32

Another thing that seems to have gone wrong... I now have set my VMWare image not to update windows..... I then start searching for updates so I can see what is available and two times in a row Microsoft's system has ignorred that and the updates are waiting for me to turn off the computer and not when I search... So, even building an new image isn't straight forward any more...!! Everything to do with Microsoft is just plain rubbish!!

After reinstating the computer and updating it I wanted to make sure it was healthy before creating a new image.... Yes, I did a search with some of the info and came up virus...no virus... I have used several programs to sweep the computer and nothing... I will have to build a new image...just not going to trust microsoft with my backup image any more...just haven't got the time to waste on solving problems with updates... Ever since the Windows 10 crap came on the scene it has got worse... More and more problems... So, if it is virus related then the backup image I made had a virus and I checked that before creating an image and sfc ran OK.... All you get now is don't trust Windows with the updates.... I just think it is a sad state of affairs when one has to watch every move Microsoft makes....!!! They have made complete fools of themselves with Windows 10 and the story just goes on... Thanks for your time. bookie32

Hi Charl! It turned out to be a switch....!!! I didn't see it until resetting my computer... I was still experiencing the same problems after resetting the computer and I happened to check the switch when connecting to the internet/downloading files ect and I saw that as soon as the switch was being put under stress...all lamps were blinking... I replaced the switch and that is working great again.... bookie32

Hi guys! I have a problem that is getting just the tiniest bit irritating to say the least.... I have had my Internet drop out randomly since yesterday... What I have tried is checking drivers, cable connections etc no dice. I have bought a new pci card today to see if that helps but no dice.... I keep getting no cable connection... I have tried resetting ip's etc no change... I have run malware/virus scans on the computer and not found anything.... Almost every time I try to download something it stops working... I have a switch connected to this computer and several others but they are not losing connections... Any suggestions...? bookie32

Hi guys I have a customer that has just had his computer infected with the cryptolocker virus... Has anyone here any experience of this crap and how to decrypt files on an infected computer... I have removed the virus but then again it leaves a ton of crap in its wake so it doesn't need to be still active... I have tried recovering the files and most just can't be recovered despite what others have written... My customer is considering paying the ransom...but I still don't think that will help him... What is the matter with these clowns creating such crap!! Before long the Internet as we know it will be a thing of the past...and all because there are those that think it is fun to destroy everything for others... bookie32

Hi guys! Wow this thread seems to have been active....more than I can say for me....Well, I am not going to rant and rave now but still haven't anything positive to say about windows 10....!!! I still think it is a waste of space... I have had several that have upgraded to 10 and then thought better of it....but downgrading still doesn't work if you were using the windows back up function before you upgraded and downgraded... The back up function just doesn't work afterwards and it doesn't matter if you remove the old ones it still comes up errors and it is just a waste of time trying to fix it... I have reinstated several computers because of just this problem... I have said it before and say it again an upgraded machine is a recipe for disaster.... I just wish the games manufacturers would bet on Linux and put the window crap into it's grave where it belongs!!

Windows PXE Boot Fails to Capture Image
bookie32 replied to bookie32's topic in Unattended Windows 7/Server 2008R2
Well, it is marvellous.... When I add things here I see my errors... Dism /Add-Package /Image:"C:\WinPE_x86\mount" /PackagePath:"C:\Program Files\Windows Kits\8.1\Assessment and Deployment Kit\Windows Preinstallation Environment\x86\WinPE_OCs\WinPE-HTA.cab" There was an extra space between the WinPE_ x86...!! I sort of knew it was something like that but couldn't see it on a word doc....never again will I be so stupid as to use word for code!!! Thanks but solved! bookie32 -

I created my amd64 first copype amd64 C:\WinPE_amd64Dism /Mount-Image /ImageFile:"C:\WinPE_amd64\media\sources\boot.wim" /index:1 /MountDir:"C:\WinPE_amd64\mount"The first file I added to this was: Dism /Add-Package /Image:"C:\WinPE_amd64\mount" /PackagePath:"C:\Program Files\Windows Kits\8.1\Assessment and Deployment Kit\Windows Preinstallation Environment\amd64\WinPE_OCs\WinPE-HTA.cab" I had no problem with this all the way through to saving and unmounting... I am trying to created the same with the x86 version...again I followed the how to... copype x86 C:\WinPE_x86I mounted it as before and tried to add the first file as above but keep getting and Error 3 Dism /Add-Package /Image:"C:\WinPE_x86\mount" /PackagePath:"C:\Program Files\Windows Kits\8.1\Assessment and Deployment Kit\Windows Preinstallation Environment\x86\WinPE_OCs\WinPE-HTA.cab" The error says unable to access the image Make sure the image path exists...bla, bla, bla.. I just can't see anything wrong with the code and it is doing my head in... Can anyone shed some light on this...? bookie32 -
