my guesses are somebody: held the drive shut while it was trying to eject (or a case door held it) forced the drive open/shut put a cd in crooked(sp?) and cause the mech to jam you get the idea. the gear mech that opens the drive has some missing/rounded off teeth. you might be able to dissemble the drive and rig the gears to mesh right again but thats a waste of time when a you can get a dvd burner for around 30$ shipped

PC_LOAD_LETTER replied to Zxian's topic in Networks and the Internet
yeah i usually disable the 1394 net adapter just because it just might be the most useless thing in windows. -
this is the only way to obtain it besides buying it (but i wouldd try before you buy) http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/64bit/facts/trial.mspx

Occasional disconnectivity on startup
PC_LOAD_LETTER replied to Zxian's topic in Networks and the Internet
got any PCI NIC cards lying around? Im curious to see if it does the same thing on a different NIC. also might try moving the adapter to the top of the list in the Advanced Settings in Network Connections Network Connections->Advanced(on the File menu)->Advanced Settings could also try disabling the 1394 connection and/or the wireless adapter and see if that has any affect honestly im just guessing but ive fixed stuff before with tinkering with the settings. maybe itll work again in this case. -
oooohhh very shiny. i like. any chance of other versions with different color glass?

if you know the target system and have the correct driver the way you are attempting is the best but personally, i prefer just using Driverpacks to make the cd somewhat universal http://driverpacks.net/DriverPacks/ Get DriverPack BASE & MassStorage point DR base at the location you extracted your cd to, add DP MassStorage (check text mode checkbox) it'll add about 5-6 MB to your ISO size but its well worth it.

Integrate MCE to XP PRO CD
PC_LOAD_LETTER replied to king_td's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
no i think your right. that method is for installing MCE/TPC components on Windows XP Pro (which falls in a gray legal area even if you own both) If you have Windows XP MCE OEM 2 cd version and want to make 1 dvd (or cd if you trim some fat from the discs) then this is what you are looking for http://www.msfn.org/board/merge-intall-disks-dvd-t80212.html -

Start->Control Panel->Sounds and Audio Devices->Volume Tab->Place volume icon on the taskbar also, Please do not double post.

sc stop wuauserv will stop auto updates (and its popups) untill you reboot. just be sure its done installing. on a side note, its less annoying in Vista because it lets you pick 10 minutes, 1 hour, or 4 hours

Running MCE 2005 but it says 2002...
PC_LOAD_LETTER replied to vert's topic in Windows XP Media Center Edition
the system properties showing version 2002 isnt your problem. according to MS thats a known issue http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;837707 as for why the xbox 360 isnt working right, i can only guess http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/200.../01/566324.aspx maybe that fits your scenario too? -
well if you want to get fancy you can locate any command line switches for each of those programs to install them silently by adding the switches as arguments in in OCT under Setup->Add installations and run programs but if you just want office setup to launch the other installers for you and then you choose the options yourself, then just add them with no arguments.

Gears of War won't load, I need a missing system file
PC_LOAD_LETTER replied to ninjax6792's topic in Gamers Hangout
left click=fire (to crosshair) hold right right click= see 'scope/reticule' but you loose perspective on your character while doing it its annoying as hell to me. feels like a real s***ty port from console to PC (i know its not but it just comes off that way) -
I have a 24" vs his 22" monitor monitor size has absolutely no effect on score I have 2x320GB HDs vs his 250GB HD you are quoting size as the spec here. In this case size does not matter. -the specs that matter here are access time(in milliseconds), RPM(5400,7200,10k), Interface(IDE/SATA), and raid mode (if 1+ drive) I have 3GB of 667MHz Ram vs his 4GB of 800MHz Ram again i doubt vista is scoring him much higher here because of the amount of ram but if hes seeing an increase at all over your score its because of the speed of the ram I have an nVidia 8400GS 256MB vs his nVidia 8800GT 512MB My guess is this is where youre losing the most points at. the 8400 series is becoming the 'budget' model where the 8800 is a mid range card (again amount of RAM probably isnt affecting the score much -its the speed of the cpu/ram) But seriously the Vista Experience Index is really the 'Geek Squad' of benchmarks. It might help 'Ma and Pa' figure out what type of 'computer box' to pick up at the local bigbox store but it is by no means a gamers benchmark. if you want to know how your system compares against GAMING computers then you need a GAMING benchmark like 3dmark. if it makes you feel any better about your score, I rate a 5.4 on my system and its specs are: Quad core 6600 @ 2.4G 4GB Corsair DDR2 1066 GeForce 8800GT 512MB GDDR3 @ 650Mhz 4x 250GB 7200RPM hard drives (no raid)

Gears of War won't load, I need a missing system file
PC_LOAD_LETTER replied to ninjax6792's topic in Gamers Hangout
I looked all over the forums for it but apparently its and 'artistic' decision to make it more 'realistic' (because) killing when hundreds of people with a handheld rocket launcher/chaingun while dressed in 3000 pounds of armor, I want realism and a crosshair in the middle of the screen just shatters all the realism for me. http://www.firingsquad.com/news/newsarticl...?searchid=12610 yeah im not looking for a precision pinpoint accurate chaingun but i would like an easy way to locate the center of my 24" monitor (i could easily find the middle of a 15") without having to think about it. -
well then they best place to learn how is the sticky in this forum http://www.msfn.org/board/Customize-boot-screen-t606.html

well the guys nick is 'wacky baccy' so that might explain something. i don't get it unless its just a "wooo! Look at me I got vista running on a 300Mhz machine. now time to format and install win 2k so i can actually use it!" sorta thing -you know like the guys that try to run linux on on everything just to prove they can do it. Actually i take that back i dont get it either way. I dont even understand the people installing Vista on the EEE and it has 3x the specs this pc has.

DriverForge v5.0! - An Automatic Driver Installer
PC_LOAD_LETTER replied to kickarse's topic in Device Drivers
well the big issue is my Unattended CD has gotten too big for a cd so i cant use all the drivers i would like on it (cant do dvd yet until i phase out the last 2 models on PC with CD only drives) i would like to take a cd with compressed drivers / dvd with uncompressed, toss an autorun.inf on it that points to driverforge and have it update drivers on a freshly installed system even if instead of specifying a path, if you could leave the parameter blank and have it default to looking in its the same folder as the .exe is run from for a folder called "DriverForge" and using any compressed/uncompressed drivers it finds there. so installing would be: 1. Extract the exe to a folder 2. Make a folder called "DriverForge" and extract/copy drivers into it 3. Make autorun.inf 4. Burn the contents of the folder to CD/DVD 5. Put CD/DVD in the drive of the target system 6. Click Start after driverforge starts (unless UnAttended=Y)
