Not to dissuade your decision to use SiB, but did you know that you can install them both at the same time and therefore use the best parts of each at the same time? SiB is great and I highly recommend it, but Classic Shell also has a lot going for it as well, and having them both just gives you that many more options to make your OS exactly like you want it. And has already been stated, they both uninstall cleanly, and since Classic Shell is free it won't cost you anything but your time to install them both, separately or together and see what works best for you. Cheers and Regards

And MUCH of the size of the DirectX installer is due to the installer. If you extract the files to include in your SP, I think you will be surprised how little space in comparison it ends up taking up. Cheers and Regards

As yet another instance of how IPB has FOOBAR'd various forums you can read this thread. In my limited experience, it seems that the IPB folks will eventually address some of the reported bugs, (more likely if you have a paid support plan), but ONLY if you prove the bug exists multiple times with examples including screenshots and videos, and then ONLY if they can reproduce it themselves, and then ONLY if they can't figure out a way to blame the behavior on the browser you are using and then ONLY if if doesn't interfere with the vision they have of the way they think the board software should operate. No, no. No bitterness at all on my part. I've used SRWare Iron as my almost exclusive browser for several years now, though I also have Opera, Firefox, Waterfox, SpeedyFox, Pale Moon, Maxthon, Chrome, Safari, IE(32-bit), and IE(64-bit) all installed to check compatibility and narrow down problems to a browser issue or otherwise. I've also used Netscape, K-Meleon, Flock, and others in the past but they are no longer updated. In addition to the built-in tools in the browsers to import settings from other browsers there are also many 3rd-party tools available to share settings, Xmarks and LastPass are two that I couldn't live without. Most of the still-updated browsers have addons or extensions available to help equalize the various browser's capabilities. Of course most of those browsers have also adopted the best features from each other, such as tabs, so with a little bit of work you can make almost any of the browsers work for you. Cheers and Regards

That just sounds really weird. It's as if the highlighting isn't "taking", or gets un-highlighted when you click the formatting choice you are trying to implement, resetting the cursor position to the start of the post before implementing it. Surely if this was a problem with IE9 it would have been reported before now, so it must be something on your end. Not to try to get you to switch to a different browser, and I know you do not have this issue with IE8, but just to help pinpoint that it is some kind of issue with IE9 and not some other setting on your current system, could you try the same thing with any other browser of your choice, which you could uninstall immediately after if you choose to, Firefox, Chrome, SRWare Iron, (and there is even a portable versions of Iron you could use so you don't even have to install it), and see if you have the same problem? If not, then since it would be with the same system accessing the same site, then it would surely verify that it is an issue with some kind of IE9 setting that is amiss. Out of curiosity, when you installed IE9, I assume you upgraded from IE8? Could it be some kind of IE8 setting or extension or BHO that you had that isn't quite compatible with IE9? Or did you create an install disk that removed IE8 and replaced it with IE9 for a "cleaner" install? And to clarify, the system you have IE9 installed on that you are practicing with, is that on Vista or Win7? VM or real install? Just trying to throw out anything I can think of to help you or anyone else come up with an ah-hah moment. Cheers and Regards

What I, and I think Tihiy, meant is that when you install SiB you have an option. You can either install it for all users, or just for the individual user that is doing the install. Not knowing which you chose when you installed SiB, Tihiy suggested reinstalling SiB, using the latest version, and choose the option to install for the individual user and see if you still had the same problem. Please let us know if reinstalling SiB fixes the issue for you. Cheers and Regards

You cannot remove the popup window. It will be removed when the project is officially released as, I assume, v1.0 or greater. In the meantime, as the popup window explains, this project is meant for testing purposes ONLY, not for continuous regular use. Try it out and report any issues that you have in detail, except for complaints about the popup window of course. EDIT: @bigmuscle, I know this has been mentioned before, but for the benefit of brand new users members here who only read the OP then DL the app, it would probably help head posts like this off to post this kind of info in bold, underlined text, preferably flashing if possible LOL, in the OP. I thought the info was already there, and it is implied, but it could be made clearer. Just my opinion. Cheers and Regards

I think Tihiy just meant to reinstall SiB for the user who is seeing that message. Cheers and Regards

Your best bet might be to stay active in the Windows 98SE SP3 and lobby for the missing pieces to either be included or made available in a separate "optional" download. I think it would be best for whatever the missing pieces are to be sure they are compatible with Windows 98SE SP3, since that is currently the easiest, most complete solution available, so that seems to me to be the most logical approach. Cheers and Regards

For some reason, I have not seen any posts from either xper or coffiefiend in a while. Before that, they both seemed rather active. I don't know what's going on either. Cheers and Regards

That points out one specific useful reason for having updated IE files even if you do not use IE as your browser that I'm sure effects more than just TmEE. So that just puts it back to figuring out the most useful distribution method and hosting source. Anyone have any suggestions? Cheers and Regards

You ask for donations but where are the numbers?
bphlpt replied to ciHnoN's topic in Site & Forum Issues
No, that was not the reason he was banned. Cheers and Regards -
Here's another one to add to your list, and it's free! START MENU REVIVER Cheers and Regards

Might be better to post yours so we can see what you did wrong, and suggest ways so you can do it correctly next time. Cheers and Regards

Navigation errors, such as the database ones, can sometimes be recovered just with a page refresh, or hitting your browser's back button, then trying the link again. CTRL-A, CTRL-C is extremely wise these days, but as you've seen, do a page refresh before you repost to see if the first one made it through after all. Cheers and Regards

Doesn't matter, still not legal. Best to no longer mention. EDIT: +1 what submix8c said about nLite EULA. [Not to be a killjoy, but ... (Sorry, just couldn't resist!) ] Cheers and Regards

Yes, the board has been having more and more problems lately. Cheers and Regards

This is a long established misunderstanding. You need to have at least SP1 installed already to install SP3 onto a running, live system. SP3 can be slipstreamed directly onto any version of XP. To repeat, when slipstreaming SP3, NO previous SP is required, or recommended. Well yeah! My LEGAL VLK works only with VL Windows. Actually, I have downloaded Windows RTM Retail, OEM and VL. I've tried all of them and my product code works only with VL version (no yellow "sticker" during setup with 25 digits (x)). While I won't argue that your VLK key works with your downloaded VL ISO, unless you have a TechNet subscription and downloaded the ISO directly from MS, your ISO is considered warez, ie not obtained from an authorized source in a lawful and authorized manner. So please make no more mention of it at all on this forum. Mentioning it further or discussing it will risk you being banned. And as submix8c reminded you. if you did obtain a VL ISO from anywhere other than directly from MS, unless its MD5 hash matches those from TechNet, just because your key works does not mean that your source is clean with no surprises lurking. Cheers and Regards

Batch script to install Updates Takes Forever!
bphlpt replied to XenonKilla's topic in Unattended Windows 7/Server 2008R2
From what I have seen, no matter which method or tool you prefer to use to make an OS build, it seems it is always best to temporarily disable any anti-virus and anti-malware app that you have installed. Some just cause poor performance, as you have noted, and others can sometimes cause mysterious errors that might not show up until you try to install the OS. Disconnect from the internet if you are concerned, in fact that might help you remember to re-enable your protection software afterwards. Cheers and Regards -
Relax, jorgeA, you forgot one of jaclaz's other aliases - the jester. He does like to poke a bit of fun and tease. Not to worry. He's dangerous usually harmless and means no ill will by it. He probably just viewed your statement as a challenge to his finder skills. I've been the victim beneficiary of his wit many times. Cheers and Regards my friend

LOL, from your alias, your avatar, (from the Godfather, right?) and this "quote", I assume you're old enough to remember Peter, Paul, and Mary, or do you like Bob Dylan's version better, since he actually wrote the song? (Blowin' in the Wind) Cheers and Regards

Reformat a HDD and maintain product activation of a PC with a VLK?
bphlpt replied to E-66's topic in Windows XP
I agree with this point completely. In fact, here locally, there was a huge flack raised a couple of years ago when a school systems sold some hard drives that they were no longer using that unfortunately still contained student personal info, SS numbers etc. The drives had been "erased" before being sold but you know how little good that really does. As a result of that, SOP here is now to never sell HD's, but rather destroy them, and any old computers that are sold have their HD's removed. Yes it seems a waste when the drives could have just been securely wiped and then sold, but after being burned once... Cheers and Regards -
Reformat a HDD and maintain product activation of a PC with a VLK?
bphlpt replied to E-66's topic in Windows XP
I'm sure that schools, or school districts, do indeed purchase their computers in quantities at a special price, but my wife and I have each been involved, separately, with schools who did indeed use VLK licenses for their computers. It has been a few years, and it might not be common practice, either now or ever, but I have seen it done. Cheers and Regards -
Going strictly by what you have posted, and ignoring for the moment how/why the hidden partition got un-hidden, have you looked to see whether Windows has indeed gone in and made a paging file on the partition like the error message says might have happened? If it has, you should be able to go into the System settings, tell Windows you don't want a paging file on that partition, reboot, delete the paging file, reboot, make sure that the paging file is gone, and then try again to remove the drive letter for that partition. Cheers and Regards

It might help to know as much info as you can provide about the computer itself, basic hardware and specific version of the OS itself. Did you do anything at all between when IE last worked correctly and now? When you last used IE, did it shut down correctly? And Welcome to MSFN! Cheers and Regards
