Welcome to MSFN! Cheers and Regards

Well, once there is a "legitimate ISO from Microsoft", then the situation will be different. Cheers and Regards
-
In the current pre-release stage, why not? You download and use "critical" components such as Classic Shell and Aero Glass, the good folks at WinAero can be trusted, and the MD5 checksum is known and published, so what's the problem? It's not as if this is competing against an official MS released Win10 ISO, which would be considered warez and not discussed, supported, and advertised here on MSFN. Cheers and Regards

The more time goes on, the more glad I am that I've stayed on Win7. Cheers and Regards

Well, there are several of us Electronics kind of guys here, so if the name of the archive and the link to it is something you can share, then who knows? Cheers and Regards

I understand your points, but hmmmm NT4 => 2000 => 2003 => 2003R2 => XP => Vista => Win7 Seems awfully convoluted. There just has to be all kinds of extraneous left-over crap in the registry and system directories that is just a waste and possibly likely to cause problems at some point, even if the conversions happened "correctly". While it will indeed take you a long time to start from scratch, I really feel you will be better off and also think it will actually take less time than the path you are proposing. I've never heard of a way to truly convert a server OS back to a client version to the point that it can be successfully upgraded to another client version, but maybe someone else has. Good luck! Cheers and Regards

You could just get another HDD, or SSD, to replace your existing drive, install Win7 and your apps, copy over the data from your original drive, and then you could reformat the original drive to use for more data storage. It would take some money and a bit of time, but you would have a reliable system. The way you proposed just sounds inefficient and fraught with peril, so much so that if you were going to try it, IF it was even possible, I would strongly suggest backing up the original drive to another drive, so you would need another drive anyway, and it would probably take longer and you would be likely to have to redo or adjust your settings at each stage anyway. Just my 2 cents. Cheers and Regards

You could try to download the first file again, in case it was just a bad download, or you could try to find the file collection somewhere else, in case just this posting had an error, and you can see if there are any comments posted with the file collection from others who have had the same issue or can confirm the the files should be extracting correctly. Cheers and Regaards

And even if the OP does get a new sever, he is likely to eventually run into the same problem again, unless he determines what files are taking up space, which shouldn't take long to determine using the suggested tools. Once the "which files" are known, the "why" might or might not become obvious. Cheers and Regards
-
You've said this or something similar several times. Did you try any of the various tools listed above to try and see which exact files are taking up space? I'm guessing either user profiles, though not in the Windows folder of course, and/or temporary files, but I could be wrong. Cheers and Regards

LOL Those are great! Cheers and Regards -
I haven't seen it either. Maybe in an app like Outlook as Trip asked? Cheers and Regards

You might could make use of one of the tools listed here - Visualize What Takes Up Space On Your Windows PC - to see what is taking up the space. Then you might be able to reclaim part of that space. I have used WinDirStat in the past, but one of the other tools might be better for you. Cheers and Regards

Win 8.1 Pro not asking for product key on OOBE
bphlpt replied to realdannys's topic in Unattended Windows 8/Server 2012
@Trip, so you're saying that including default settings, though I realize this is redundant and not necessary, can cause problems? I understand that it is only necessary to include settings which are different than default, I can see how it might help remind one of what the various settings are by including any settings which you might change in any of the builds you make. It would seem to make comparing settings from one build to another easier. Cheers and Regards -
I will be interested to read the final details of exactly how you built such a stick, and also the details of all the way such a stick can be used. And also if such a build could be made using a USB drive instead of a stick to allow storage of other data and apps. Cheers and Regards

What do you mean "log out"? You mean the "Sign Out" button up in the top left of every page? If you want to erase this web site from your computer, just delete the cookies of your browser, then don't come back. The two posts above will be the only evidence you were ever here, and if you hadn't made those, then those wouldn't exist either. Just curious, but why did you join, only to want to quit an hour later? Cheers and Regards

Unattended but leave user with OOBE after drivers?
bphlpt replied to realdannys's topic in Unattended Windows 7/Server 2008R2
Just curious, and I could be misunderstanding the situation, but couldn't you apply the Windows updates to your image while in Audit mode, so that this step: isn't necessary? Yes, to maintain this up to date status you would have to update your image once a month, and you could still include the command line tool in case any updates occurred in between your distribution and the user's installation, but it seems that might save you some time during Windows installation. AFAIK, you can also install apps during Audit mode so that your deploy experience more closely resembles that of your SO X images. Isn't that the whole idea of sysprep? Cheers and Regards -
Talkative cuss, aren't you? Welcome to MSFN anyway. Cheers and Regards

Yep, all better now. Cheers and Regards

No argument that xper is the last poster, and that his post can be seen, IF you can get to page 2. That is still the problem. Cheers and Regards

Sorry, not for me. I typically use a version of Chrome and even if cache is cleared and browser is restarted the behavior is the same. I then tried both Opera and SlimBrowser, neither one had ever visited this link, and behavior is the same for all three browsers. And if I use the trick of adding "page-2" to the link to get to the second page, then that page does not have a link to get back to page 1. And when on page 1, it says there are "24 replies to this topic", but only 20 total posts are displayed with no indication that there is a page 2. Cheers and Regards
