  1. Send me a PM and perhaps I can log into EUO and help you get established if you try it out.
  2. Make the switch, just try it. No doubt it my mind you won't look back.
  3. The edit to the System.ini file of ConservativeSwapFileUsage=1 is meant for systems with 256MB RAM or more only.
  4. I use WinMX for P2P and McAfee 7 Pro for antivirus (before they went downhill with v8).
  5. You're exactly right. It's all about security. I've been into Internet security for a good while now, and I still am learning more and more. Recently I wrote up a page of my own about how to have a clean, efficient OS. I've tacked it into my signature here and I've been helping many friends as well. You can view my post here. If you want to post your Hijack This log, just do a reply in that thread or PM me, though I recommend the thread post. If you want to jump straight into the website, you can click here. The applications suggested are the best I've found and used thus far that are efficient and free. Actual quote from my friend "Razor" whom I helped with his system and his Hijack This log. He also switched to Firefox.
  6. Simply click the buttons for scanning each directory. I should have included a "Back" button. Just updated it and added a back button, along with allowing it to show in the taskbar in case of any mishaps/errors. Though I really no longer recommend "patching", as it makes your system a little slower and takes up a bit more memory in reality. :\ Disclaimer: I am in no way, shape, or form affiliated with these applications. I simply work with them as a hobby. I do however have roughly ten years of computer experience. By downloading any files, you agree that I am in no way legally responsible for damage to your computer software or hardware. The entire risk as to the quality and performance of the covered code is with you. Should any covered code prove defective in any respect, you (Not the initial developer or any other contributor) assume the cost of any necessary servicing, repair, or correction. By seeking my assistance you hereby waive any possible means of legal action or otherwise. WinPatcher 1.01 WinPatcher had a minor update, added a back button and taskbar feature. VMM32 VMM32 was constructed under the advice and guidance of multiple PC technicians under a STABLE Windows ME OS. By downloading and/or using you agree to the disclaimer.
  7. Why not follow the instructions on that page to construct a new vmm32.vxd and use that as the primary distributable file?
  8. I voted for CdEx 1.5, I've noticed 1.51 gives me a BSoD however when 1.50 doesn't. Audiograbber was recently recommended to me, must say I have yet to try it. @ prathapml, Winamp 5x for ripping? Negative. It often leaves little audio "burps" or "hiccups" at the end of mp3 files. And the cd burning is just as bad.
  9. I recently did research into the vmm32.vxd "fix" and found that they are indeed rumors. Just like with applications, the fewer files you have to load, the better your system will be. This includes system performance, memory and in this case, boot time. http://www.infinisource.com/techfiles/vmm32.html
  10. I recently looked into this and found it is all just a rumor. By loading the one vmm32.vxd file you actually save load time and resources, along with memory. I ran a series of tests and found that just having the vmm32.vxd file loading was faster, and much more efficient.
  11. You might want to check this link to tweak Firefox 1.0 with some easy to use tools as well.
  12. I still buy cds all the time. And I rip my own because I'm picky on what quality audio I want (192kbps).
  13. The burning and ripping of mp3's is probably the worst I've encountered. Cd's burned are at different volume levels. Cd's ripped often have audio "burps" or "hiccups" near the end of the mp3s. CdEx is far better for ripping mp3s.
  14. I believe he set up his FTP to allow anonymous logins. I attempted to connect via WS-FTP Pro 7 and would get the return message of "Connection failure". As he stated, we attempted to disable his firewall and everything, with no such luck.
  15. Did a total overhaul and update. Now included many other good applications, browser checks and recommendations and more. Version 2.0 of the site is now live. Btw, I will be checking this post as well. So if you want to post your Hijack This log here I can do my best at cleaning your system.
  16. Transferring large files, etc. Lots of people also archive their old e-mails.
  17. Just got upgraded last week, about time too.
  18. Not only that, the cd ripping is terrible, along with the burning. CdEx is a better application (freeware) for cd ripping.
  19. It was confirmed as he had to take it back to the shop and get a replacement. When they returned it to him, he had two cards. Unfortunately I forget the manufacturer of the faulty card.
  20. First, just something that caught my attention; but shouldn't this be in the Polls section? Anyways! Out of all the OS' that I have used, I do not care for Win XP Home at all. I've touched base/used all of the Windows OS' except for Windows 2003 and Longhorn. 95 (default OS) was good, but it had it's moments. Upgraded to 98 and my computer would never auto-shutoff like it used to. New computer with WinME, no real problems at all. All these errors that people talk about I never see. Perhaps because Windows ME was the default OS so it was just made for it? I don't know. But I do know that it's very stable and can handle a LOT of abuse. My computer is four years old now and still running Windows ME. I still manage to boot at 95% system resources free, and have managed to have 99% resources free. Used Windows 2k Pro at my last job and I was impressed, but even it was a bit crash happy. Then again, put idiotic bankers behind an OS and anything can happen. At a friends LAN party, it was one computer running Windows XP Home, laptop using XP Home, and two others running Windows XP Pro. Pro showed the most stability. My friend whom has the XP Home pc has had so many problems with it, it wasn't even funny. Now I see why I was always over there. When we weren't playing games on the pc it was fixing errors and such. For the few major errors I have had on my Windows ME computer, using GoBack has saved me every time. You avoid the hassle and stress of formatting when you can simply go back to a previous time and everything is working good as new.
  21. First try to boot into Safe Mode, if you can get in there you may have some luck. I have a friend who recently had this very issue. It was a combination of a virus, and then a bad Ethernet card of all things. Going on the information you provide it could be a number of things, from spyware/adware to a virus, even faulty hardware. If you can provide more information it would be VERY useful.
  22. so true.... i laugh at people who have xboxes, i dont see the point of buying one. same thing with gamecube. there can only be 1 master system, and its the PlayStation2 Look at Halo. I believe that did eventually come out on PC, so... where's the loss? I still have my NES, and 2 SNES systems. Both in excellent working condition. Hell, I even have the ORIGINAL Final Fantasy. ;D Actually, in total I have... NES, 2 SNES, N64, PS1, PS2, and at one time I had a Gameboy, Gamegear, Sega, SegaCD, and that SNES-Gameboy add-on.
  23. I must say it's an honor to see my application suggested to be included. (At least, I think this is the application I wrote, I do recall writing one with that name!) I haven't actually run this file in a while, though I will be checking on it now that I see it is still being used and perhaps I will update as I see fit. A batch file would be much easier to include into that however, because with WinPatcher being written in VB it requires the MSVBVM60.DLL file, plus the application itself. If you've noticed when you run WinPatcher it basically opens a DOS window and extracts the file to the appriopriate directory. Even though it would be nice (and worth the bragging rights) to see my application go in, I believe the *.bat file would be for the better. It would be smaller and faster to execute. Maybe if I learn more with Delphi 6 I can rewrite the application and it could be used there. I don't really know, I'm just starting to scratch at Delphi 6 as I intend to develop web based applications and the likes in the log run. (Including chat bots, chat clients, and other Internet based applications for the end-user)
  24. Ps2. Has superior games and hardware. If I wanted to play the games XBox has, I'd use my computer. I mean, that is all that XBox is, just a Microsoft brand name PC.
  25. I would use Mozilla Thunderbird. I recently had uninstall issues with OE, mainly because I never used it. I'm uncertain, but I believe that Thunderbird (like Firefox) should be able to import all of your address books etc. I've never used a desktop based mail application, but after trying Firefox. If I was ever to start using a desktop based e-mail client I would certainly go for Thunderbird. Mozilla Thunderbird site Why to use Thunderbird
