That popup was very annoying for me because the computer I ran it on is now almost 9 years old and that popup would often freeze, not wanting to go away.

I go for avast since it can be totally silent to update. AntiVir has a rather annoying popup every update.

As long as you have some good hardware, (that is, meet recommended specs) upgrading to a supported OS would be a wise choice.
