I'm afraid so.But you can watch The Wizard of Oz 100 times and visit Kansas and then you'll understand.

Depending on the operating system you will install will depend on other components necessary for your upgrade. If it is Windows XP then I would suggest at least a Radeon 7000 64mb card for video. For "cheapness" if the mobo has built in audio(read the specs) then use that for sound. As for memory if your board supports DDR get at least 256mb of it.Tell us what the model of your mobo is and we can give you additional help. There are just too many what if's.

I just tried upgrading a HP Pavillion 8655C that was running win 98se to win xp home. The customer was having trouble with the system locking up while using his broadband connection. The system;533mhz p3,integrated shared video, some cheap sound card,64mb pc 100,no agp slot, updated bios.I installed 256mb pc 133 and installed xp.System ran ok but had to turn off most visual enhancements. Then hooked it up to the broadband and poof video hardware lockup.Built him a newer system with 256mmb pc 133 with a compatible agp graphics card, latest motherboard and happy happy customer no more lockups.Runs very zippy. All components have signed drivers. My point is that this being one example of this type of upgrade,, hardware incompatibility can account for poor perfomance on any system.Even not matching ram to motherboard in higher end machines will result in this.Zivans 450 with all the ram in the world won't improve xp's "giddyup and go".

Monitor Dying? Weird black lines and white boxes..
zipp51 replied to ThA_FiLeR's topic in Hardware Hangout
Since 1995 1 MAG 15 in. and 1 Viewsonic A70 17 in. The MAG burned out but lasted about 4 yrs.The Viewsonic still looks good, and my next monitor will be the same brand(or Optiquest). -
Happy Birthday ThA,and many more.

If I can recall correctly, they both have .13 micron core size, but the difference is that the Barton has 512 on the core cache L1 and 128 L2 (640k total). The Thoroughbred has 256k on the core cache L1 and 64k L2 (348k total). The Bartons clock at a lower speed but perform better because of the core cache boost.

Thanks Experties, corsair did a good job.

After you install you have 30 days to activate. You will just need a modem connected to a phone line or call the number they give you.Easy as pie.

9800 pro,is kick a** according to all the mags I have.Even with it's lower memory and core speed than the 5800 Nvidia it dominates in the benchmarks.I haven't had many problems with ATI drivers but I have with Detonator.A system builder I met at a show had his modded pc's setup with Nvidia's latest slotted in an Epox board with the Nvidia2 chipset and he tells me he would have nothing to do with ATI and in fact the Radeon 9700 won't even work on the Epox board. It's like everything else,go with what works for you.

Good score MSNwar. When you get er going let us know how you like it.You know,I copy all my downloads onto cd's and I thought I would never fill one up(without music) but I have twice over just on one pc.I haven't run across anything on that model but if I do I will post it. Luck.

In todays market just buy anything with 2Gz or equivalent(AMD)and above with your wallet or ego dictating price, and you've got a very fast and capable computer.Just have fun, unless you made other plans. I love AMD but I'm working on a P-3 533MHz HP.My customer is simply going to love the upgrade from win98 to win xp home. That's where there is happiness for a lot of people who can't shell out $300 to $500 just for a processor. It's all relative like MSNwar says.

OK,had to find a utility that worked for overclocking found Radeonator 2.0 and clocked to 297 core and 290 memory.

Did you overclock it too? ... cause thats kinda of low score if the mod worked. Grab Rivatuner a clock it a bit Nope Crispy,I didn't Overclock yet but I will get around to it.I thought that Riva tuner was for N'vidia cards? The mod definitley worked for me with no artifacts and by the way thats an incredible score you got.In a Maximum PC test a 3.11 GHz P4 running with a Radeon 9800 and dual ddr400 on a SIS655 chipset mobo and the 3D Mark2003 score is 4829.Another test they ran was a 9800pro Radeon running with a P4 3.06 512 Ram and no AA/No Aniso and they got 5532.Your card is definitley a good find.

Maybe later they will but for now the Longhorn leak is intentional(prebeta). The taste will be out there till 2005 from what I,m reading.

I agree with Drew, only winxp sp1 offer native support for usb2.0,anything else with win98se and above need vendor drivers supplied with the card.
