  1. 98 gives any program that wants it access to any memory location it wants, all it has to do is ask. This means that any program can easily overwrite the OS itself. 98 CANNOT take advantage of HT processors or dual core. Sorry it just cant be done. Getting it to use over 512 MB of memory efficiently is just a joke. No NATIVE NTFS support. FAT32 just plain sucks. Very weak security. These are all the things I can think of of the top of my head and I know there are plenty more.
  2. yes you would need one for each OU but it would only be two lines long: net use driveletter: /d (optional but I would do it in order to assure the correct mapping) net use driveletter: \\pathtoshare Also for doucment rediriection you do that via group policy.
  3. Why make it this hard? It would be simpler to just use a batch file and assign it to the correct OU and use the "net use" command. There is really no need for all the comparisions. Just my opinion. Jim
  4. Thank you. I tried that and in order to install the extension it opens up firefox and asks me if I want to install it. I am trying to do this silently.
  5. Is there a way to install Firefox 1.5 extensions from the command line?
  6. There is no good reason to run windows 98 anymore. It cannot take advantage of modern hardware and was buggy and insecure from the day it was written.
  7. why not just use HKCU and apply the tweaks from cmdlines.txt? Or if you want to apply it after windows is installed write a logon script that uses HKCU?
  8. get 2gb for this and buy VMware workstation. It will save you money from having to purchase additional computers. VMWare is one of the best products out there.
  9. If you use your pagefile alot you need more ram. Basically anything over 2 GB goes unused because 32 bit windows cannot assign more than 2 GB to a process.
  10. You have any idea on the price of the ddrdrive? The thing that was supposed to be really nice about the IRAM is that itself is was affordable and appeared to Windows as a normal SATA hard drive so you didnt need any additional drivers on top of your controller card and could install Windows directly to it. The centek drive starts at like $1000 for 1gb or so. Jim
  11. As the title says, has the Gigabyte iram been released yet? I went to their home page and saw drivers and such available but cant find anywhere to buy it. Jim
  12. Install the driver once, then use double driver to backup the driver and integrate this into your Windows install using nLite.
  13. That is not a good setup of your drives. Both mirroed drives on 1 IDE cable will be slow. IDE can only write to one drive at a time so each write will take twice as long. If you really want to test your build, use VMware workstation, this will allow you to test everything except driver integration. When you need to test driver integration use drive imaging software to create an image of your drive and if it doesnt work just drop the image back onto it.
  14. WSUS kicks the crap out of its previous version SUS.
  15. What version of Windows are you trying to install in the VM, and what type of hard disk (IDE or SCSI) are you trying to use in the VM.
  16. Heres some advice: Dont post in all caps.
  17. How do I name a network connection something unattended? I would like the name to be changed from Local Area connection to something more of my choosing, such as Realtek Gig, VMware NIC, etc. (This is in an NLited fully functional install) Jim
