  1. On Windows Server 2003 the service that runs this is Routing and Remote access. Look up a guide using that subject.
  2. I normally dont ask questions this easy but I figured Id ask an easy question that others might have encountered before. Jim
  3. Is it easy to combine the 2 CD's into 1 DVD image? Would all I have to do is import the entire contents of CD2 into the CD1 iso? Jim
  4. Can you ping 127.0.0.1? Can you ping your default gateway? Can you resolve names? Can you tracert to well known sites? Jim
  5. 2. Doesnt matter. 3. I am assuming the computers are in a workgroup environment. In this environment why you try to access shares on other machines the credentials you are currently logged in on the machine are passed to the other. If the username and password are the same you will not be prompted to provide them. If they are different you will be. Jim
  6. Follow the same troubleshooting steps you would on 32 bit. IP v4 is IP v4 no matter what OS you are using.
  7. You know anyone can fake an email coming from any email address rather easily?
  8. doesnt media player just use port 80 to play music?
  9. this will be more trouble than it is worth. Jim
  10. the hardware supports it but you dont seem to have the right attitude. Jim
  11. my machines at home. I have a logon script deployed through group policy that maps printers.
  12. do a search on microsoft.com for scripts on how to connect users to printers using vbscript. In their example it also maps a default printer. I would post what I am using at home, but I dont have access to those machines now.
  13. I know its not perfect but its a start. Also, using software restriction policies can get nasty cant they? Doesnt he have to allow every other exe and dll that the program requires? NTFS permissions would be a good idea too. Hmm what happens if you deny access to that account to task manager?
  14. The built in help tells you exactly how to do it.
  15. Yes it is. Dont really need to do the 2nd part.
  16. Add a startup script using group policy editor locally. I do this with my build using an AutoIT script. Jim
  17. I point it out repeatedly because everyone seems to think 9x performs so much better and they forget about many key things. If I needed to for some weird odd reason to run a program in the 9x environment I would run in it in a VM. I am not saying anything over a year old is ancient, but something that is almost a decade old is. I know I will not be switching to Vista when it comes out. Not enough significant improvements and it is too slow. And I ran it on a high end machine. (Alienware 7700m almost maxed out). Took over an hour to install. XP is the best OS MS ever wrote. Stable and fast. What more can you ask for?
  18. Ah sorry thought ya meant a printserver hosted on a server, my bad. Wasnt clear.
  19. Dont people realize that 9x platforms cant even come close to utilizing all of the power of modern platforms? Below is a list of unsupported hardware: Multiple processors Dual Core processors Large amounts of memory Below is a list of software limitations: No file level permissions. No security policies. No non admin users at all. Everyone that logs on can do whatever they want to the system. @LLXX you can still use those commands in EVERY version of the NT kernel. You are not showing reluctance to switch just because they say so, you are showing that you do not know what you are talking about. DOS WAS a good OS back in the day, but it was not able to do multitasking at all. And all 98SE is is a front end for DOS, it is NOT a 32 bit OS. And as far as security goes how can you get any less secure than 98SE. Anyone can write a small program that can access any portion of memory that it wants, including the portion used by the kernel. This is not possible easily in NT+. Also there are no more service packs or security updates for 9x, so why would you use something that is inherently insecure?
  20. nope. USB is Plug and Play and PNP is not supported in NT 4.
  21. normal monitor display is already HD I believe. To get decent frame rates you will need a decent card but not top of the line. Jim
