You need a new heatsink fan which will run fast, blow more air and cool that baby down. I personal love DELTA fans, but some say there to loud. -XPerties

Worth the Upgrade?Pentium3(600) to Pentium4(1.8g)+++
XPerties replied to popeye's topic in Hardware Hangout
OEM warrentys are usually 30 days to 90. Sometimes you might get a year if you buy a special heatsink. Retail comes with 3 years and I believe you can get a additional 4 years from the place you buy it as a extended, but be careful with those extended. -XPerties BTW...OEM usually dont come with heatsink and if it does its a non-regulated INTEL un-certified heatsink which is another no no -

those prices for the CPU are OEM. You do not want a OEM on any CPU. You can play your luck with other hardware but CPU is a big no no. -XPerties BTW. OEM are also know to be called white boxes -
Value is what they run at, and threshold is what they should run at. So in "Lamens terms" there running below standard to what the default settins are in PC Probe. For example when i run Motherboard Monitor I have certian OC settings i run in my bios. Such as the Voltage supplied to my CPU thus makes MBM give me a alert. I turn it off. Just make sure your temps or ok. That 40c....is that a INTEL? If so think about getting a better heatsink, way to hot if you ask me for a idle machine. I freak if mine gets over 29-30c on full load 35-36c -XPerties edited: I just saw your system specs...missed that. Im going to assume your using the default heatsink that came with the INTEL considering the RPM on the CPU fan are below 3000. I run mine at 7300-7400 rpm.

[b:8942870947]The master of upgrades is finally here.........Now listen[/b:8942870947][/size:8942870947] Simple as this. i was taught a while ago and live by this saying. [u:8942870947]If you can double your preformance then do the upgrade[/u:8942870947] So regardless if you decided to go with Intel or AMD is your desison.But keep in mind the Temps and Prices on both CPU's. And the stability and cost of motherboards. I personal just got my first amd board and CPU (T-Bird 1400) and so far love it, Temps are high compared to INTEL but thats normal. Ive always been a INTEL guy and still love them but the prices are sicking. As far as DDR for INTEL, theres plenty out there and still rolling out, altho some may have over looked the boards that have RAMBUS Ram on them. Keep your eye on them. Now VID cards is a strong subject for me. My personal option and fro alot of experiance as I build PC's all the time , stay away from [b:8942870947]Radeon[/b:8942870947] and Ill explain why. First off the driver support is awful, just plain sick. They have to learn to support the cards first before actually making a move on Nvidia. Second especially with this so called "awsome" VID card "8500" the pixel support and shading on alot of games still experiance sever promblems. Yah the benchmarks are awsome and i know 2 mods have this card on the board and thye will debate this crap with me but look at the track record. Read some reviews. Not to mention again its over priced and over rated. Now you can assume I would pick Nvidia for several reason. Drivers are great and alot of different choices out there. OS support better for Nvidia. Price is so much better. For ex. you can pick up the New [b:8942870947]Geforce 4 for $129.00[/b:8942870947] at best buy if you live in the states. If not you can find it some where else. of course Nvidia can be pricy , depending on what your looking for...ex. TV Out, S-Video. So in conclusion the things I have done before building computers is 1. Ask for sugestions 2. Do alot of research on the products 3. Search for the best deals. Ask anyone that knows me personaly on this board about my fun times building PC's and they tell you Im always doing s*** to my PC's. Well if you need any other info like review sites that are good or places to shop online that i can offer let me know. Good luck -XPerties -

Best 'skin' or visual style I have seen yet...
XPerties replied to LS_Dragons's topic in Visual Styles
Samantha- Follow these directions to install the themes, they dont cost anything.....But styles XP does cost to regiester it but you can use it without and add all the neat themes everyone has. Visual Styles In order to install visual styles, you must install TGT Soft's Styles XP (go here to get it....https://narcissus.ntsecure.net/tgtsoft/secure/stylexpplusinstall_0_6_1.zip) This will allow non-signed/checksummed themes with custom visual styles. Otherwise, the edited visual style defaults back to Windows Clasic. Simple instructions for installing a visual from this site: Download the visual styles .zip to your computer. Extract the .zip file to your %windir%resourcesthemes (probably c:windowsresourcesthemes). Do Start > Settings > Control Panel to open the control panel. Double-click the Display icon and go to the Appearance tab. Select the theme from the "Windows and Buttons" list and hit the Apply button. The visual styles are what the guys have listed about. You can find many on the sites above.If you have anymore questions please feel free to ask.Also you can find some more help on installed bootscreens and other stuff here...http://www.themexp.org/howto.php -XPerties -
[b:15e4a5af6b]Samantha[/b:15e4a5af6b] - Howdy, and welcome to the board. about your question, no MS site does not scan your computer or look at your key. all it simply does is when you go to windowsupdates.com in IE (internet explorer) it locates to see when you logged in and what you downloaded. It also reconizes your hardware and what updates you need, it does not send any info about you or what XP your using. Thousands and thousands of poeple are doing the same as you are. I for one have my XP installed on 3 computers and have no promblems. Alot of people are using illegal installes of XP as well and get updates all the time. Dont worrie about what you hear you will not be in trouble or get into trouble for going to the website and updating your OS.Hope that helped and if you ever need anything else be sure to let myself or anyone else at MSFN know, we are here to help. -XPerties
