  1. Has anyone found anything remotely close tot he image resizer for XP (powertoys) that works with vista?
  2. What times do you normally play? Totally add me on and we will smoke their arses.
  3. I just recently started looking at this OS and it looks great especially in a house with 7 pcs and 2 laptops. I see the noted prices on the pre-built systems but what types of systems are you guys running your beta copies on? (CPU and Memory) To bad it seems the beta doors are closed as I like to try a copy out prior to buying, guess I'll wait till end of Sept to grab a pre-built system. Anyone know when the retail copy of the OS is for sale and expected prices?
  4. With Halo3 right around the corner I figured I would drop my name tag to any guys who play 360 online. Look me up under: XPerties Also I play almost daily Battlefield 2142 under, you guessed it, XPerties so squad up and join me for a killing good time.
  5. Just a note, this is the second time nlite was features in Maximum PC. The first time was 2 months ago but this month the article was 2 pages long and bragged about how good the program is. Heck they even put a title banner on the cover about it. Great job guys!

Such ileet skills and a hacker by choice. I fear you. hahahahha, I just had to be a smartass toward you on even making a comment about you being a hacker by choice. Only a kid would make such a comment. That gave me a great laugh tonight. Thank you for demonstrating how knowledge has degenerated over the years. What you term a hacker (ie a person who breaks into computers, etc.) is properly termed a phreaker or breaker. Neither are hackers, although the press certainly enjoys maligning the term.. 'Hacker' is a term which originated in the early 70's and has absolutely nothing to do with such illicit activities. If you care to be "smart" instead of simply being a "smartass," you can take the time to learn the true meaning of the word. Here's something to get you started: (link). As for me being a kid, I only wish I were again. I'm not, however, and the last 47 years haven't been exactly kind. Still, I've learned a lot more in my days than you apparently have - starting with manners. "demonstrating how knowledge has degenerated" - First off your term hacker, that you feel I might think...... are false. The term "hacker" is not for discussion here. What is up for decision is how you felt the need to come to the thread and lay your "I'm so cool because I'm a programmer by necessity, and a hacker by choice". By even making a statement like that only shows the aggressiveness you are in search of to portray yourself as higher than others who might offer you another opinion because guess what - Opinions are like as******, everyone got one! Your opinion which was a drawn out explanation of Vista and how great you think it is only fired back at others in a attempt to belittled their experience. I made some comments about my views on vista and when others fired back at me you did not see me stand up and fire back at them. My experience with windows products and in the internet/technology world will out seed most on these forums. Considered I was a founding members of MSFN and once ran the forums as a Admin, my experience here alone stands for itself but you will never find me trying to pull rank over someone who disagrees with me over a stupid "Vista is great, no it's not" thread. Again, only a kid would say they are a hacker. The word hacker is taken in two ways on the internet.... 1. It's taken as the definition you spoke of above. 2. It's taken in a childish "OMG I'm so cool" platform. In the future remember MSFN is about sharing and helping not portraying yourself in a larger than life aspect.

I would hate to disagree but I have to. I purposely built a new system just for Vista with all the latest hardware and speed: - Intel Duo Core 2 e6600 cooled by Sunbeam Tuniq Tower 120 - Asus p4B Premium Vista Edition - 4 gigs of Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400C4 DDR2-800 XMS2-6400 Xtreme Performance Memory - 2 Western Digital Raptor WD1500AHFD 150GB Serial ATA 10,000RPM Hard Drive w/16MB Buffer running in Raid 0 - 1 Western Digital Raptor 74GB Serial ATA 10,000RPM Hard Drive w/16MB Buffer - BFG GeForce 8800 GTS OC 320MB GDDR3 PCI-Express Video Card - Powered by Thermaltake W0117RU Toughpower 750W Power Supply w/Active PFC I ran Vista for about a week and gave me nothing but issues. Sure the OS itself is stable but with constant disk searching it was screaming my drives every second for hours and yes I tweaked it and turned a lot of crap off. No software works on it such as dreamweaver, photoshop and Office 2007 outlook locks up during mail checking. Software may not be Vista problem but it's unwilling to adapt to how things run makes it an overall POS. I went back to XP and just been screaming along on my new pc. The fact is out of the box vista isn't all the great for the normal end user. Gaming, don't get me started on that.
  10. Seven Alive - Actually the first shots were at 7:15am where 2 were found dead in a co-ed dormitory. The about 2 hours later the massacre began with 31 more dead. The shootings did not continue for hours. It was under 30-45 minutes then the gutless bastard killed himself. The school and the local police have a large part of blame in this situation by not properly reacting as they should have. What is weird is on good morning America on a insert they did about "this week in history" Columbine shooting was also in the same week several years ago.
  11. Using vlite I removed Tablet PC services not knowing it would remove the snipping tool. I have finially got all my apps reinstalled and everything configured right and don't want to go through the pain of reinstalling vista. Does anyone know how to add the service back in or the snipping tool?
  12. For those who do not like to play with the reg this simple app does it all and works great: http://www.frameworkx.com/content.aspx?ch=60&id=636
  13. It's been about 2 days for me and my Raptors are still freakin out. How long till the indexer settles down? And other than not being able to find things fast turning it off does what? Slow searching down to provide performance and wear and tear on your hard drives? Seems it would be better to turn and leave it off.
  14. Yes this works but shift + right clicking on notepad does not give you that gain option. It does on other files but not notepad.
  15. Mt issue was vlite which removed the services completely and now I'm trying to find a way to get them as an option to be enabled without having to reinstall vista again.
  16. I don't really care what you like. Icons are there to express feelings and right now since I have been searching for over an hour to fix this without having to reinstall vista and my 12+ apps I'm kinda p***ed off. So without your poor feelings getting hurt how about providing some type of solution to get the service back in vista. edit: just because I'm a smart a**: :realmad: :realmad:
  17. Same issue here but my problem is TabletPC is not available to enable because I used nLite and it had no warning about removing snippingtool. Dammit, I really need that feature back. Any ideas?
  18. Using vlite it seems one of the options removed the snippingtool. People say to add it back on under windows components for tablet but I don't even have that option. Any ideas without having to reinstall Vista?
  19. Funny that I run across this as I have the same issue. My system is setup with: Vista Ultimate 32bit 2 Raptors X Drives in raid0 4GB of Corsair Ram It's a new install but I notice the same crap, hard drives just running crazy when system is idle. I'll take a look at that Process Monitor and look at the other things mentioned.
  20. My new system now. Adding another 2 gig and doing a raid 0 with 2 raptors today. Hopefully will raise the score a little.
  21. I went to bed last night and as always left my pc on. When i woke up this morning my pc was at the login page. When I typed my password in it said "setting up desktop". Once vista loaded all my icons were gone, all mail accounts and e-mails in my outlook were gone, all quick launch apps were gone, all my favorites in IE and firefox were gone. It's like a new system. Does anyone know WTF happen? I looked at the logs and only saw the following for the 14 of March.

    Can't burn to DVD

Got the same error also when trying to burn.
  23. Well after install vista on my p4 3.0 I laughed and started collecting new hardware for my new machine. I'd like to get the best performance out of it. Believe it or not I've never setup a raid but before I begin my questions here is the hardware I have ready to put together: - Intel Duo Core 2 e6600 cooled by Sunbeam Tuniq Tower 120 - Asus p4B Premium Vista Edition - 4 gigs of Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400C4 DDR2-800 XMS2-6400 Xtreme Performance Memory - 2 Western Digital Raptor WD1500AHFD 150GB Serial ATA 10,000RPM Hard Drive w/16MB Buffer - BFG GeForce 8800 GTS OC 320MB GDDR3 PCI-Express Video Card - Powered by Thermaltake W0117RU Toughpower 750W Power Supply w/Active PFC I'd like to set the 2 drives up to perform the best they can so my few questions are: [1] Which raid would you recommend? [2] While installing vista does it ask you if you want o setup raid or is there a trick in doing this with vista? BTW I own the Vista Ultimate Upgrade and since this is a new system I guess I'll need to install vista 2 times or XP pro then vista.
  24. hahahaha, nice one liner. Haven't seen you around in awhile. Maybe one of these days hit me up on MSN and we can game together. This AARP member can still kick your arse at any game!!
  25. ahhh shucks, don't kill all the attention I get. hehe Thanks guys! I won't be doing much other than working, as always.
