  3. CardMan Driver Installation For PnP devices the files are copied to the correct location, so that the operating system is able to install the device with minimal user interaction, if the device gets plugged in. cmsetupn -install -d:CardMan 8630 I have the same problem when i want to install an USB WebCam or USB printer. The only unattended solution is the first one i've described in previous post (peripheral already plugged to box before running unattended install and automatic detection an installation of drivers with preconfigured winnt.sif and PnP drivers folder).
  4. 1/ KB873374 GDI+ Detection Tool : don't bother about that. It's not a hotfix but a tool that open predefined web page to check your system for possibly programs needing updates. Value set to 1 in registry to avoid WindowsUpdate claiming not installed/run. REG ADD "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\GdiDetectionTool" /v "GDITool" /t REG_DWORD /d "00000001" 2/ I have already build a Windows 2000 Server SP4 + IE 5.5 SP2 with XPCreate. I have set DLAUTO=NO in XPCREATE.INI and build my own IE55SP2 package. It's the same method from building IE6SP1 package except i use an older IE5OEM.EXE instead of IE5SETUP.EXE to avoid a popup windows claiming the installer is not digitallly signed. If you want more infos, let me know i can give you more details. M$ don't release anymore HotFixes for IE55SP2 for Windows 2000 but you can still use IE55SP2 for WinMe HotFixes with some modifications. 3/ My video card do not need/support latest DirectX and i replace it with DX81NTOP.EXE + 839643 DirectX HotFix in my running box. 4/ to check HotFixes installation, you can use Shavlik HFNetChk.exe

  7. Microsoft Security Bulletin Checklists by Gary Busby All patch details are based on the English version IMPORTANT: This is not a list on how to secure a Windows system or other Microsoft products. The scope of this workbook is to list all known security bulletins baselined from that respective products latest Service Pack or Security Rollup. It's intended audience are those that must keep up with the latest information on Microsoft security patches and need the most accurate information to do so. These checklists, in a lot of cases, contain information that may not be documented or accurate from Microsoft. They do not include vulnerabilities that are not publicly addressed by Microsoft. These checklists are updated frequently as necessary. Securing a Windows system may require numerous manual steps dependent upon what software is installed and how it is being used, which is beyond the scope of this document.
  8. @BatTLeZone Can you run DXDIAG.EXE the first time you boot your fresh 2K install. 10. Running the tool without any switches by double-clicking ktool.exe and the default my_os.ini, i would like to "load" a profile just by scrolling the profile list in the right corner instead of selecting differents components under a -SECTION- in the left available programs. Example if i want to apply all -UPDATES- i should select all the listed components one by one. Would be nice to just load a profile by select it in the scrolling profile list (with all profiles available) click an ADD button and all items put in selected programs. But thanks for your already done works. The tool is great and keep it simple.
  11. @Roguespear Would you like to post your VB code ?
  12. If your Windows is already installed using unattended method, just add a new folder with the files for your SmartCard reader where the others drivers files already copied on your HDD Example for a Fujitsu Siemens USB Smartcard Reader manufactured by OMNIKEY AG - existing PnP Driver folder c:\PnPDrvrs C:\PnPDrvrs\NVidia or ATI or whatever contains your video drivers C:\PnPDrvrs\SmrtCard copy all your reader drivers files here cmeu0wdm.cat cmeu0wdm.inf cmeu0wdm.sys C:\PnPDrvrs\IntelINF chipset inf files ... Add the path to the registry using Pyron SetDevicePath.exe SOLVED: drivers from CD , possible even without winnt.sif! SetDevicePath c:\PnPDrvrs If your SmartCard drivers are digitally signed, when you plug the USB cable to the motherboard USB, new hardware found and Windows PnP automatically install the drivers and add the reader without asking you the path for the drivers. works without any problem for my reader. Using DEVCON method (Reader already plugged appears with yellow ? in device manager) devcon updateNI c:\pnpdrvrs\smrtcard\cmeu0wdm.inf "USB\VID_08D4&PID_0009" Please give us a download link to your reader drivers if you want specific help. What is the software solution you will use with your reader ?
  13. Would you like to create a Windows XP or Windows 2000 CD with all hotfixes integrated ? I haven't got HotFixes list for french XP but as says Mr.J!M, see my post if you need to build a 2000 CD. To apply fix without downloading them with XPCREATE : 1 Download XPCREATE HERE 2 Accept the End users License Agreement, and extract the contents of the downloaded XPCREATE.EXE file to a new directory of your choice. 3 Edit the XPCREATE.INI file to reflect your system parameters. This may be edited in Notepad, or any text editor. Set DLAUTO=NO. 4 Double click on the XPCREATE.CMD file to initialize the XPCREATE environment, and create the necessary sub-directories. 5 Add your User specific files and directory structure, such as $OEM$, $OEM$\$$, $OEM$\$1\DRIVERS, I386\WINNT.SIF and $OEM$\CMDLINES.TXT to the FILESCD directory, to be merged with the distribution files at CD Creation. 6 Add the already downloaded various hotfixes in the specified folders according to Current Hotfixes - Windows 2000 Professional - Updated 28 September 2004 hotfix list. 7 Place your original Windows 2000 CD into your CD-ROM drive. If you have a separate CD burner, you can also place a blank CD into it now as well. 8 Start XPCREATE by double-clicking XPCREATE.CMD in the directory you extracted it to previously. 9 XPCREATE will then merge, mix and mash all the files, and create an ISO file of the CD image. If a CD-R is in the CD burner, XPCREATE will attempt to burn the ISO image to CD. original quickstart guide by GM here
  14. for your needs, a Microsoft® Windows® - Powered NAS may be the solution. NAS is a category of storage devices that attaches directly to a network, allowing clients to access the storage as if it were directly attached to their system. The technique bypasses traditional server attached storage. Storage becomes accessible to users directly across the network and much of the overhead imposed by server and operating system intervention is removed to improve performance. Here some infos but there is a lot of others NAS manufacturers. Iomega® Microsoft® NAS (Network Attached Storage) Comparison Chart HP StorageWorks NAS 500s Network Attached Storage (NAS) manufacturers HT technology isn't needed for servers. Hot Swap + RAID controler may help in case of hardware failure of one of the HDD's. SATA or SCSI HDD's may improve performance. Tape Backup is recommended to save your data on removable media.
  15. Many thanks for pointing the error in MD5. I have edited the post to reflect the good one. Win2000 Hotfix lists ADD SVC-PRE\DX9NTopk.exe http://members.austarmetro.com.au/~mcsw2/MSFN/DX9NTopk.exe ba99b564dbbb764955862395d20208c9 ADD SVC-HF1\DirectX90-KB839643-x86-ENU.EXE http://download.microsoft.com/download/5/8/4/584e3b1c-37ed-4845-8c04-232858b468e9/DirectX90-KB839643-x86-ENU.EXE c3ff4c5570fb73f568dd3b8960e50d64 Long file names problems : <<<In exception of all HF in SVC-HF1 because XPCREATE gives them a clean SFN automatically>>> I rename all hotfixes with LFN to their short names and the problem is gone. If you let XPCreate rename them, you have stupid names like Q83094~1.EXE and a conflict during copying hotfixes from their respective folder to temp folder during XPCreation stops the process. I'm not sure if GM have found a workaround to solve the problem.
  16. Wow ! take me about an hour to read all the 27 pages ! But it's very instructive and many thanks to all people sharing their knowledge. bitmonster evil voice Ryan VM idle.newbie and the ones i forget their name. the funny thing is that i don't install .NET with my unattended install. I only install it on a "test" box to play with nuhi nLite. But the small startX.exe utility is just what i need for launching some installers and batch cmd.

  18. In my I386 directory the compressed shlwapi.dl_ version 6.0.2800.1584 is the one i have manually compressed and copied to the i386 directory (with the 6 others files from 834707 HF ) and owerwrited the "too much old" put by 841356. 19. Here the latest build i have make (XPCreate 17 SEP 2004) with a French 2K Server SP4 and installed on a real box without any problems. All my HF's are renamed to their 8.3 short name in SVC-??? folders (except for SVC-HF1) I don't add Journal Viewer to my list of HF After the end of xpcreation, manually edit SVCPACK.INF to replace HF1 KB834707 with my own HF2 build, replace KB8347~1.CAT file and 834707.EXE in SVCPACK folder with Q834707.CAT and KB834707.EXE. My HF2 KB834707.EXE is no longer digitally signed but the content is still signed (inf file not modified) and Q834707.CAT OK. Edited DOSNET.INF and removed references to I386 subfolders added by original KB834707.EXE HF Type 1 integration. (details in previous post) I don't create the ISO and burn it to CDRW install directly from %_source%=<PREPDIR>\CDROOT stored on a external USB Drive to %_target%=C: and launch %_source%\i386\winnt32.exe /s:%_source%\I386 /unattend:%_target%\unattend.txt /syspart:%_target% /tempdrive:%_target% /makelocalsource /noreboot from BartPE boot CD)

  25. Install both tftpd and dhcp on your WinXP Pro box. you can use freeware to run both : Tftpd32 includes DHCP, TFTP, SNTP and Syslog servers as well as a TFTP client. look at this URL to know what to configure on your DHCP Server : PXES Howto the example use builtin M$ DHCP service of Windows 2000 Server but you can configure tftpd32 to run the DHCP Server. Hope it helps.
