  3. If the network adapter supports power management, WakeOnLAN can be enabled on the Power Management tab in the network adapter properties by clicking to select the Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby check box. Right-click My Network Places, and choose Properties. Double-click Local Area Connection, then click the Properties button. Near the bottom of the Local Area Connection Properties window, you should see a checkbox next to Show Icon in taskbar when connected. Check that, click OK, and you're done. If you own a HP/Compaq box, you can use their own small tool called nictool.exe that do both modifications.

  7. @GM offtopic question ? Can i add reg.exe version 2.0 from the Windows 2000 support tools to my CD source built with the last version of XPcreate using the new functionality ? My needs is to add some M$ files (reg.exe wntipcfg.exe msconfig.exe) to this folder and let them added in dosnet.inf file and compressed in the I386 folder) without using $oem$\$$\system32 method ?

  10. The GDI+ Detection Tool checks your computer for imaging software and returns links to updates that you may need. OK, i forget about it... and i will add the language pack in the list to see what happens. Updated hotfix list : Windows 2000 Serveur SP4 HotFix List FRENCH with the value set RENAMEF=NO in XPCREATE.INI XPCreate stops at step "Merging Hotfixes." I found an explanation of the problem : in SVC-HF2, we have both HF IE6.0sp1-KB833989-x86-ENU.EXE (IE Cumulative Update) (1) IE6.0sp1-KB867801-x86-ENU.EXE (IE Cumulative Update) (2) when copied from TEMP\SVC-HF2 to TEMP renamed to (1)IE60SP~1.EXE and (2)IE60SP~2.EXE in SVC-POS, we have one HF called IE6.0sp1-KB823353-x86-ENU.EXE (3) when copied from TEMP\SVC-POS to TEMP renamed to his short file name IE60SP~1.EXE (3) but the file (1)IE60SP~1.EXE already exist and XPCreate wait input from the user to overwrite it.

This update applies to the following product: .NET Framework 1.1. 2/ Where foreigns users using a non ENU Windows source should put the Microsoft .NET Framework Version 1.1 Language Pack : SVC-X2M ? 3/ .NET Framework needs Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.6 (MDAC 2.7 SP1 recommended). Can we add this to the hotfix list and what the destination dir : SVC-DAH ?
  12. my first try was Windows 2000 Server SP4 OEM French. I have build my french Hotfix list and make a first run to download all hotfixes in the right dirs. The download stops on the last one (WMP9) but it may be due to problems with my ISP connection... I have set DLAUTO=NO to XPCREATE.INI, download WMP9 manually and put it in the right dir SVC-WMP. I have run XPCREATE a second time and when i come back later, the computer was rebooted ? Nethertheless, i have found a brand new ISO image in the WORKDIR. DOCD=NO in XPCREATE.INI because i have no CD burner on the computer used. Some remarks : DOSNET.INF and SVCPACK.INF found in WORKDIR instead of NEWFILES in the previous version. No more duplicate files (compressed and uncompressed versions) in UNIPROC subdir IE6SP1 package creation without error with the translated TXT file name. and this new behavior i dislike : Hotfix files, other than Type I, are now numbered sequentially to avoid conflicts next time, i will try the new switch to disable this ! RENAMEF=YES Where can i found the logfile in a cab archive ? i have attached a zip file instead ? Results of installation next time. removed, correction doneUnable to send an E-Mail with M$ HotMail service at the moment, i will send the list tomorrow.
  13. @GM Could you add some coding to XPCREATE to rename the Hotfixes in various SVC-??? folders according to their short filename. it can be done during "Sort Hotfixes ..." i presume below sample code i use to rename them (name of the folder is passed as argument) @echo off setlocal :: list all HF in specified folder FOR /F "usebackq delims==" %%a IN (`DIR /A-D /OGN /B "%HFfolder%\*.exe"`) DO CALL :RENAME %%a goto :EOF :RENAME set filename=%1 ::SVC-POS folder FOR /F "delims=- tokens=2" %%J IN ("%~n1") DO REN %HFfolder%\%1 %%J%~x1 ::SVC-DAH folder FOR /F "delims=_ tokens=2" %%J IN ("%~n1") DO REN %HFfolder%\%1 %%J%~x1 ::SVC-HF2 folder FOR /F "delims=- tokens=2" %%J IN ("%~n1") DO REN %HFfolder%\%1 %%J%~x1 FOR /F "delims=_ tokens=1" %%b IN ("%~n1") DO REN %HFfolder%\%1 %%b%~x1 SVC-POS folder old ---> new filename IE6.0sp1-KB823353-x86-ENU.exe ---> KB823353.exe IE6.0sp1-KB867801-x86-ENU.exe ---> KB867801.exe are more friendly than (in SVCPACK) IE60SP~1.EXE IE60SP~2.EXE in SVC-HF2 i do the same for renaming Windows-KB870669-x86-ENU.exe ---> KB870669.exe i do the same for renaming rootsupd_afc57447f7caadd3253333e35777fcd.exe ---> rootsupd.exe in SVC-DAH folder i do the same for renaming FRN_Q832483_MDAC_x86.EXE ---> Q832483.EXE I have just a problem with the DirectX90-KB839643-x86-ENU.EXE cat file the name is KB8396~1.cat and should be KB839643.cat According to the EULA, i haven't modified the XPCreate code nor published some parts of the code on this board. When i run XPCreate, i don't create the ISO and burn it. I apply first my modifications with my small bad written scripts to the CDROOT subfolders and edit the dosnet.inf or svcpack.inf files in NEWFILES before put them back in CDROOT\I386 subfolder. But it's time consuming and not errorless... P.S. : i hate the ~ because i don't remember witch key on a french keyboard to obtain the char on command line with the regional options set to English... and i love 8.3 naming convention !
  14. Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) is a Windows component that asynchronously transfers files in the foreground or background, throttles the transfers to preserve the responsiveness of other network applications, and will automatically resume file transfers when a computer is restarted and a network connection is re-established. BITS is used by programs (such as Windows AutoUpdate) to download files by using spare bandwidth. BITS can maintain file transfers through network disconnections and computer restarts. BITSAdmin is a command-line tool that you can use to create download or upload jobs and monitor their progress. Where Can I Get the BITSadmin Tool? Download link for the version 1.0 [ 5.1.2600.0 ] tested : works with Windows 2000 Pro SP4 Background Intelligent Transfer Service Version 1.5 (SDK Package) The BitsAdmin tool version 1.5 [ 5.2.3790.0 ] is located in the \tools folder of the Platform SDK. Direct download bitsadmin version 1.5 administration utility. Supported Operating Systems: Windows 2000, Windows XP BITS v2.0 is included in Microsoft® Windows® XP SP2. The \Support\Tools\Support.cab file on the operating system installation CD contains the BITSAdmin tool. To unpack and install BITSAdmin, run the Setup.exe file in the Tools directory. You can also download BITS v2.0 for Windows XP SP1 and Windows XP. To download BITS v2.0 Update for Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) 2.0 and WinHTTP 5.1 (KB842773) @GM it can be used to download all hotfixes (it' a M$ tool), set proxy settings, instead of using third-party iOpus downloader but neeed some code rewrites in XPCREATE.
  15. Another question : why should we keep Q832894.EXE in SVC-HF2. M$ says : MS04-025 (Q867801) Security Update Replacement: This update replaces the one that is provided in Microsoft Security Bulletin MS04-004, which is itself a cumulative update. MS04-004 (Q832894) My latest 2KCREATE build include both Q823353.EXE (OE update) & Q867801.EXE (IE update) and exclude Q832894.EXE (old IE update). Windows Update Automatic Update Service do not claims for Q832894. Only one listed : 814078 Jscript 5.6 (problem with this one already mentionned in 2KCreate topic) On M$ Windows Update webpage, only 814078 is listed as missing critical update. with the help of the JSscript by krismark , i've got 0 critical update.

  18. great ! nice ! wonderfull ! i like cmd scripts. i will keep this one and try it. Works perfect but the name you choose for WINNT.SIF in your example is a bit confusing. Use 8.3 naming convention for your path and it's more easy. OemPnPDriversPath.cmd C:\Drivers C:\XPCREATE\CDROOT\i386\WINNT.SIF
  19. The tool to obtain the hwid from the inf's files already exist. It's call pnpids.exe and can be found in OPK (OEM Preinstallation Kit) CD in tools folder. The hard part is : 1/ scan folders containing inf's files to build a complete list. sample IDEPNPIDS.TXT 2/ detect the hwid of your net adapter with devcon.exe 3/ found the correct inf file name and path in the output list of pnpids.exe 4/ launch the correct devcon updateni <inf> <hwid> to install or update the driver. It was one of my project to write such cmd script to make it full unattended. But due to lack of time and small knowledge of batches commands, i've never make it. but i've read elsewhere on this forum one member would like to create such script. here i'm sure with the help of great cmd coders like GM or iddle.newbie we can achieve that...

  21. It's the worst existing compression utility on the market. Why give it's money to Winzip Computing when there are freeware quite as effective? you can try TUGZip - the free Archiving Utility with the same functions as the worst and more but freeware. My favourite is iceows for explorer integration without an external program. And 7zip for highest compression ratio in new 7z format. And if you want to buy a compression utility :WinRAR...
