hell ya i,d used 98se 4ever if i could dont understand why nt so hyped anyway .sure i cant run the lasted msn live etc but who cares bout smiles or winks just a boat load of bloat.and security who cares i mean i dont do banking online or order ebay and if i ghost a image even if the dreaded spyware fairy hits me all of 8 minutes to be up and running.it cracks me up we discontinue support for 9x so upgrade because your pc is proaned to attacks and xp aint hell i hear vista spyware makers are all reved up raring to go as we speak.

well said like whos gonna buy vista to run a old dos based program?bussiness dont spend money on that.u use what works and is cost affective .enuff say pass the spliff overhere dude.

heres the problem you got 4 guys trying to fix 98se and when u patch modify a user dll etc with a newer one etc u will use functionally with a older program looking for the orginal 410.2222 dll .one program helps then the next conflicts with another and i read how it use to work before i installed such and such etc etc is there not a better way instead of installing one over another perhaps one exe with proven success.similar to gapes sp2.1 but including all usefull stuff. because it gets frustating if i install 98setome and rp7 etc one always affects the other in some bad way and u either gotta reinstall remove or replaced with orginal dll .

thxz for info but i was looking for info on pros and cons not try everything see what works .i mean it takes time to install add ie 6 dx9 etc i was hoping for a clear reason why i should go 98se or me.

just wondering if you 9x gurus know which is the best way to go with this.Now theres a lots of programs to tweak 98se kup 98setome rp7 sp2.1 etc. many for gui customizing many to add me files to 98se so whats the difference do i add me files and such to 98se or do i just go with me and try the unoffical service packs/P.S i,m not 2 concerned with the true dos issue with me.thx u 4 your replys.

u need at least a 32mb video card like a old tnt 2 or anything that 32mb and up but itll work and u can install direct x 9.0c on there np

ie 7 is great after years of the old ie 4-6 bout time way 2 go bill.

I know of this tiny xp its alright but too much is removed and u just end up reinstalling stuff better off using nlite.

Yes indeed there are plenty of free zipping programs outthere that still run on 98 and lets be honest you cant expect every company to continue to support 98 or even 95 its concievable that 3rd party apps are needed with any pre xp os.Its a shame but its a fact of life.

i,d say 2yrs after vista goes public.

i agreed on common sense approach and i too find av running in background does slow ya down so now i just run a av portable on my usb stick to do scans now and then.

yes u can do this with reshacker just make sure u replace with same size .enjoy

True enuff fred 2 many people are slaves to microsoft or any long standing provider like yahoo theres dozens of alernative and beside all i notice is more useless bloat and unneeded option every new version.

perphaps a live cd with some registry restorer could help.in the future make a backup using nortons ghost or other imaging program.It,ll save u time and your thx me.best of luck.

I,d buy and find out u can probably return it anyway .most manufacturer are going with the compatable for xp logo and not mention 98/me at all so theres a good chance it might work in 98se you find games cd still try to list the os it runs on more than hardware.
