  1. It does seem strange how some users suffer major problems running Opera and some, myself included suffer no problems whatsoever. I have been running 10.51 RC3 Build 3315 for a couple of days now without incident on this 98SE machine (fully patched but no additional software). After around three hours of use, one hour of that viewing the BBCiPlayer using Flash 9.0.124 the resources were System and User @ 85% and GDI @ 88%. Process Explorer v11.10 was giving a figure of between 35-45% CPU usage when using the Flash Player which is significantly better than Opera 10.00 and 10.10 where the figure peaked at 98%. Edit: Build 3315 has been released as a Final.
  2. Yup and NOW including spyware\adware to boot!!! Yep, as with an ever increasing number of 'free' apps these days, you have to watch what you tick when installing!!! Edit: Download from the link supplied only as the installer has been revised.
  3. ImgBurn 2.5.1.0 http://www.imgburn.com This latest version continues to support 95/98/ME OS's and has the usual "as long as your arm" changelog. Edit: Download this from the site in the link as the installer has been revised to reduce mistakes by people who don't read correctly the settings for installation. The MD5 checksum A3A820663120BEBBF0DD95869A4B7177. Filehippo at present still have the earlier version.
  4. There is a tool JavaRa that is available from --- http://raproducts.org According to the website notes: "JavaRa is a simple tool that does a simple job: it removes old and redundant versions of the Java Runtime Environment (JRE)." I have a copy of the tool on my PC but never had cause to use it as I prefer to uninstall the previous versions before installing the later version. I still have 1.5.0.22 and never needed to update to the V. 1.6 so far. HTH
  5. If you have downloaded the Full version of Shockwave then it works on all the normal browsers, are you sure you have Javascript enabled on that Test Page. The Flash Player requires a different download for the FF/Opera browsers from the IE browser, the IE download has the ax version(Active X), but the Player version should be the same provided you have downloaded and installed the same version on each.
  6. Yes many users would agree with this statement as I can remember comments in the sop's AutoPatcher for 98SE thread relating to this matter. I have that version on one box but have used 10.3.0.24 on another with no problem. However all show up as working on the Adobe Shockwave Test page, there is a Shockwave Uninstaller listed at --- http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/alternates/#sp I have never had any cause to use it as Shockwave does show up on Add/Remove Programs ( I use Tihiy's version) but you could try an uninstall with that and a reinstall with 10.2.0.023.
  7. Go to the Adobe site at--- http://kb2.adobe.com...1/tn_14157.html All information and Uninstaller in available there!
  8. See this post!!! However, I have begun to get random browser crashes in the past month since updating to this latest version when viewing sites containing some Flash content (not when using Flash Player) though. Whether it is related to this I am still unsure but happens on FF 2.0.0.22 and K-Meleon 1.5.4 and even Opera 10.00 (I have never had Opera crash before, other than 9.50, which was commonly reported). I will roll back Flash to an earlier version and retest when I have the time! Edit: After some more tests with earlier versions of Flash, I think I can discount 9.0.262.0 as being the cause of my browser crashes.
  9. You can get it from Maximus-Decim's MDIE6CU or from soporific's Autopatcher for 98SE or from MDGx. Well if that's not publicly available I don't know what is. Perhaps you need to get out more!!
  10. You could always remove the check from 'Process Autoexec.bat file' in 'Startup selection' under the 'General' tab of 'System Configuration Utility' and then you are not going to see it when the system boots.
  11. I can confirm the IE6 crashes, although I don't think I've had them while browsing MSFN. Just a heads up on IE6 crashes on MSFN. I have plain vanilla 98SE2ME without KernelEx and mine crashes on MSFN since the site upgrade.
  12. It is a while since I personally have used anything HP but try taking a look at the following page, it may hold something that is relevant to your problem. http://www.out-of-wa...nd-reinstall-hp And of course HP themselves at, http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?product=60398&lc=en&cc=uk&dlc=en&submit.y=5&submit.x=6〈=en&cc=uk HTH
  13. After using Opera 10.50 for a while now, my unease is growing that, although removing the check from 'Discover Local Opera Unite Users' as with 10.10 does remove the UDP Outbound connection attempt, Unite still tries to open two listening ports which cannot be closed. In 10.10, Unite could be completely removed which in turn closed these ports but so far I have not found anyway to do so with 10.50 even after removing the checks from the neccessary items under opera:config. I have used Opera for a lot of years since it's developers were giving what I needed from a browser, fast and light with no frills. It would seem from 10.10 onward their intent is to shoehorn as much as possible into it, turning it more into a browser suite/webserver. I really should not need to spend time partly dismantling every later version to get back what I wanted in the first place. It seems that my unease is also shared by a growing number of 10.50 users as http://my.opera.com/...c.dml?id=433551 will show. Meanwhile I'm back with 10.00 on this box and even 9.64 on by other box and possibly I may stay with them, perhaps my love affair with Opera is over. Edit: Oh dear!! Started already! See this from Secunia --- http://secunia.com/advisories/38820/
  14. I don't see a classic installer, all I see is English US Version and International. Amended link for those not familiar with Opera downloads.
  15. ONGD - FREE - Opera Browser 10.50 Final --- http://www.opera.com...r=10.50&local=y Classic Installer must be selected! Note that it is not the default selection. Edit: Amended link for those not familiar with Opera downloads.

  17. FWIW Opera have available the Release Candidate of 10.50 Build 3291. For more information on this and the download link for the Classic Installer see http://my.opera.com/desktopteam/blog It does install and run on 98SE without any additional software. Remember to remove the check under 'Discover Local Opera Unite Users' as even with Unite 'disabled' it will still try to make an UDP Outbound connection. Obviously the Opera developers have still not learnt what 'disabled' means. After a few hours of testing I personally do not think it is any faster nor better in any way that 10.00 which is the version I have settled on.
  18. Yep!!! Plenty of reading and recommendations at the sticky at the top of this very page. http://www.msfn.org/...ging-software/
  19. LAST - FREE - VirusTotal Uploader 1.0 --- http://programy.pcworld.pl/pc/programy/19796/VirusTotal.Uploader.1.0.html Allows the submission of any file directly to VirusTotal by adding it to the right click and Send To in the context menu. It will then automatically open the default browser on the VirusTotal website with the scanned results. The current version 2.0 offered on the VirusTotal website does not support 98. This site, which is reliable, is in Polish but it is self explanatory or view in Google Translate. The MD5 Checksum is E75BA68126F3839219949F9BD20E2DAB
  20. The old VirusTotal Uploader 1.0 runs on 98SE if you can still find a download site offering that version. It allows the user to submit the file for analysis by right clicking and selecting Send To from the context menu. It will then open the users default browser on the VirusTotal website with the scanned results. I saved a copy of this early version when V.2.0 was released as that does not run on 98SE. No doubt if one trawls through Google search results V.1.0 will still be offered by someone. HTH
  21. Further investigation of viewing .png files with a fully patched IE6 has led me to the conclusion that the vast majority can be viewed either on-line or off-line without any additional software with no problem. However if one views the test pages at the following site it seems that IE6 performs quite badly in comparison with FF 2.0.0.20 and Opera 10.00 which display perfect results. http://entropymine.c...estbed/pngtrans
  22. I thought my second paragraph covered that!
  23. Yes it installs without KernelEx without any problems, I don't have KernelEx on either of my machines. I have doubled checked by installing the version from your link and my own downloaded version of November 4th 2009. Neither give any problem.
  24. Beta Build 3248 installs and runs without KernelEx OK but I have had a number of crashes and a couple of problems I didn't have with Alpha Build 3228. It seemed quite good when I tested it this afternoon on my XP machine on my workbench at my place of work so I reserve judgment on this until I have had more time, but heck it is only Beta 1.
