  1. Curious!!! Have you tried adding www.chat.co.cc to your hosts file to point at 127.0.0.1 so you cannot access it at all? Although I am unsure of where along the chain it will throw up the unavailable message or whether it will prevent redirection in the first place. Also under Opera Site Prefs. Network. Enable automatic redirection uncheck.
  2. THE RASMUS - In The Shadows Fabulous track, great video. I'd have a hair cut like Lauri Ylonen if i had enough hair!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJLVl96sxr4&feature=fvst
  3. If your problem first appeared whilst you were using OpenDNS, it does seem to me also, the fault lies with the hosts file, before DNS, if you follow the reasoning. Whilst it is difficult to know your exact set up, I would personally run through these checks in the following order. 1) Scan for any malware with at least two decent malware scanners, A-squared, Malwarebytes, SAS for example. 2) If you have a hosts file manager and it gives the options of 'merge' and 'overwrite', make sure 'overwrite' is selected and download the hosts file updates again. 3) Empty the disc cache on your browser/browsers. 4) Delete any cookies you have stored that relate to both the websites in question. 5) Go back to using OpenDNS and recheck if the problem still persists when you type the website address into the browser rather than click on any link you have stored in favourites etc. OpenDNS under the Support tab have a 'Cache Check' and 'Site Checker' facility. 4. What's the bump for? Dencorso gave the link in post#3 to Docx2Rtf v3.8. It does exactly what the OP was asking for.
  5. Quiet week over and back with a bang! KAISER CHIEFS - I Predict A Riot
  6. Glad to hear that, but it is strange this problem has only surfaced a couple of times within four years. Yes, as dencorso says, get a copy of Norton Ghost 2003 from eBay, mine cost £3, hardly breaking the bank at that price.
  7. In the words of Alice in "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland", Curiouser and curiouser! If systray.exe is running then things are getting very much more complicated. This is where system file back-ups and disc image back-ups would have saved the day. Every PC I have ever built has 2x HDD's, a partition of the second drive stores Ghost images of the main drive going back months. With NUSB3.3 you get systray.exe 4.10.2224 and hotplug.dll 4.10.2224 so reinstalling NUSB removes the possibility that these are corrupted. However if you read post#71 of this thread, the problem has been seen before, but bear in mind that this was back in 2005 and NUSB3.3 does not contain any known problems. Follow the advice listed in 1) Hotplug Icon Missing, but DO NOT edit the registry. See if that shows any improvement in your problem. HTH
  8. The current versions of SAS Free from V4.28.XXXX onwards do NOT run on 9X systems at all despite SAS indicating that they will according to current information on their website. However they have indicated that they "do not unwind releases" and V4.24.1004 will continue to support 9X.
  9. PS. An afterthought. In System Configuration Utility, Startup Tab, is System Tray definitely checked? Whether you refrained from answering my question on purpose or oversight is possibly not at present relevant but I will ask it again as it may help your fellow members answer your problem. At the moment they seem to be chasing their tails and going round in circles. Is systray.exe definitely running on your machine? Because if it is not running no amount of reinstalling NUSB, whatever version you try or changing explorer.exe version is going to get your USB tray icon back. Now systray.exe gets disabled for a number of reasons, on purpose by the user or by mistake by the user, but don't just assume it's working because you have 'third party' icons in the tray, (firewall, AV etc). If you are unsure over what systray.exe does then read the following thread in particular post#2. http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=103225 The version of systray.exe should be 4.10.2224
  10. GDI32.DLL + GDI.EXE 4.90.3003 continue to work without ANY problems on my 98SE2ME box since re- installing them in February.
  11. Giving my Technics SL1200Mk2 a good workout just in case it dies from over age and under use, so still on vinyl this week! CAROLE KING - Tapestry
  12. Curious indeed.... By default Opera has too much enabled for my liking. I only enable Block Unwanted Pop Ups and disable everything else. I only enable what is needed on a site by site basis with Edit Site Prefs. My only suggestion is to disable everything and surf around the same sites again and see if the problem goes away. I suspect Flash will be the culprit and this has been reported in other threads affecting various browsers. I use Flash 9.0.47.0 as I have had problems with the later versions and this version is considered by many as the last fully functional version under 9X. The version of Flash being used by some posters reporting problems with Opera may have some bearing on the fact that some users are having problems and others are not. Tihiy is looking into the issue of font leak in Flash if you refer to the threads relating to his current projects and a successful outcome of this may help us all. HTH
  13. CHRIS REA - Auberge (Album) Most Chris Rea tracks make great music to play in the car. It's either his love of fast cars such as his red Ferrari Daytona or he composed much of his music on the the move. The beat just pounds along at a fabulous rate for driving!
  14. I have been using Opera 10 for a while now, firstly with Beta 3 Build 1699 and then RC Build 1733 and Now Build 1750 and it does not soak up ANY resources quicker than Opera 9.64 did under similar conditions. After 1 hours general surfing, the Resource Meter was giving System @ 65%, User @83% and GDI @65%. Memload V2 gave a figure of 124M after that one hour and Process Explorer V11.10 generally gave a figure for Opera which varied between 0.50 and 8.00% CPU except when viewing a page with Flash content when it peaked @ 98%. These figures are no better or no worse than those presented by FF2 for a similar period and were taken on my 98SE2ME box. I normally surf with everything disabled in Opera except for Block Unwanted Pop Ups enabled so I cannot imagine if you are doing similar where your problem lies. HTH
  15. I love it. The standard skin has improved a lot and it's simply flying on my old Win98 box. Resource usage is still high but usable (RP9 installed) and the speed is worth it. Anyone who uses Opera on Win9x should update. Or start using it Got to agree with all this, had Beta 3 Build 1699 and now the RC Build 1733 and beats FF hands down on speed on both my 98SE and 98SE2ME boxes. Cannot see it being long before a final release if this last build is anything to go by. Edit: Latest build offered is Build 1750 and see noguru's post below.
  16. You can get some classic Kelly Bundy quotes at 'thedailyinsult.blogspot.com' and search for Kelly Bundy.
  17. Having a quiet week! JAMES TAYLOR - Sweet Baby James (on vinyl). I had forgotten how good vinyl sounded if it's in good condition!
  18. Yes his absence from these forums is somewhat alarming, his last post was months ago now. Having said that, it would be even more alarming if his homepage was not being updated. Hope all is well. Best regards, Colin I am beginning to get a bad feeling about this!! Other than a short visit mid July, MDGx hasn't been seen here for a considerable length of time. I have this ever increasing worry that we may have lost MDGx to these forums. I certainly hope not!
  19. No problem here with NUSB3.3 and the sys tray icon. I can left and right click the tray icon no problem to stop the drive. I have had all the versions working perfectly on my both my 98SE and 98SE2ME boxes. Have you tried reinstalling NUSB3.3 back over the top of the last one? PS. An afterthought. In System Configuration Utility, Startup Tab, is System Tray definitely checked?
  20. Yep it does, everything works fine in FF. Mind you, this last-post problem with Opera and IE does make you re-read all the previous posts in the thread.
  21. Had to start using Firefox instead of my beloved Opera, the scrollwheel on my mouse has worn out!!!
  22. galahs Thanks for yesterdays (26 August 2009) update of your post #2. Nice work!
  23. Same here both with IE7/Win XP SP3 and with IE6/Win 98SE. I was not aware Firefox is unaffected, though. AFAIK, xper is presently trying to sort this out, so it ought to be solved soon. Just a quick comment that this problem also affects Opera, not just IE. The problem coincided with me installing Opera 10 Beta 3 Build 1699 onto my 98SE box and as Firefox 2.0.0.20 remained unaffected I was at first thinking the problem was with the Beta build so I am pleased in some small way that other browsers are giving the same result. HTH Colin
  24. Good grief!! When I look at some of the speeds posted here, you would think I lived in some backward Third World country (possibly I do!). Here in the UK, unless you are served by some small community local cable network (few and far between) or Virgin Cable (only in city areas) you have to rely on British Telecom's archaic attitude of serving up the telephone system via a network of the thinnest and cheapest copper cables up the oldest wood poles they can find. The result is the best that can be achieved from a max of 8Mb/s is around 4-5Mb/s.
