  1. Hi Neil, Welcome to the forum. Nice to hear from someone who is prepared to LOOK for answers and not just ASK for them. You'll end up like me, been here three years and still classed as a Newbie!
  2. ELO - Telephone Line "Doowop dooby doo doowop doowah doolang, Blue days black nights doowah doolang" Aye! They don't write meaningful lyrics like that nowadays.
  3. Hi Becky, Try Maximus Decims Native USB Ver.3.3 first. Follow the instructions in the top link for installation method. Get the file from MDGx at the following link http://www.mdgx.com/spx/NUSB.EXE HTH Colin
  4. Mott the Hoople - All the Young Dudes Written for them by David Bowie, this has surely got to be one of the greatest tracks of the the 70's!!! I can recall seeing them tour in the mid 70's and been supported by a relatively unknown but up and coming group (who weren't that good I thought at the time) called Queen. How wrong I was.
  5. Read the following thread and follow the advice listed. That should clear your problem. http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=136153 HTH Colin
  6. IMHO It is well worthwhile installing (aka unpacking) Auto-Patcher on any 98SE system even if you have no intention of running the actual program in the future. As Dave-H points out the installation files can be run, one at a time, directly from the relavant folder. Even if you just keep the files folder and the manual installs folder and bin the others. Saving these two folders in some convenient location, you have all the hotfixes and updates upto December 2008 and a handfull of handy 3rd party apps or utilities for future use all in one place. HTH Colin
  7. BOB DYLAN - Blood on the Tracks (on vinyl). This has to be the best Dylan album of them all.
  8. THE CLASH - London Calling Played as loud as my ears will allow!!! Listed at No.15 in Rolling Stone Magazines 500 Greatest Songs of all Time.
  9. Hi eidenk, When I first updated to Flash 9.0.150, I reported in another thread, who's first poster had encountered problems after the update, that my Flash was working fine. However as time progressed and other updated versions were installed it became more obvious that I too was having problems. However at that time I had not realised, as no doubt many others had not either, that some sites had the potential, with seemingly relatively innocuous flash content to completely sap resources as displayed by progressive.com. I was having problems with two sites in particular, one of which was uk.climbing.com which occasionally offered short video clips , of around 5 minutes or so, of uk based rock climbing and Alpine rock, snow and ice climbing which was obviously sourced from different locations. A more serious problem occured with the BBC iPlayer. One could choose the programme required and the player would load with the opening 'still' picture, but as soon as the play icon in the centre was clicked the computer would become very unresponsive with jerky and fragmented mouse movements which lasted for varying ammounts of time. Sometimes even requiring termination with either Task Manager or Process Explorer to get the computer back. This problem was identical on both my boxes, the spec of which are listed below, in both Opera and Firefox 2. The change log of Flash 9.0.246 lists both security and stability improvements but the iPlayer problem was still apparent. That being the final straw, I reinstalled Flash 9.0.47.0 which is, by a consensus of opinion of a good number of users, the last version for 9X to be FULLY functional. Indeed, 9.0.47.0 does completely cure the iPlayer problem. Therefore if I need to update Flash any further I will have to follow your example and use Flash 10 with KernelEx. Thanks for the advice. HTH Colin
  10. DIRE STRAITS - Telegraph Road All 14:20 minutes of it.
  11. Now there's a thing to bring back memories, RECORDS!!.. Record = Reasonably cheap big lump of vinyl with hole in middle, (or bakelite if you're that ancient). CD= Very expensive little lump of plastic with hole in middle.
  12. You need Auto-Patcher for 98SE by soporific. BUT you need to run that PRIOR to installing 98SE2ME! I don't know of any autopatcher for ME but I suspect you are meaning the Service Pack for ME by the_guy. No that is for full-blown ME only. If you read the 98SE2ME ReadMe Text Guide it states install all the updates, hotfixes and patches prior to the installation of 98SE2ME. HTH Colin
  13. Crikey!!! That doesn't go with the avatar. Last night, THE RASMUS - Dead Letters (Album) Tonight, JACKSON BROWNE - (The Very Best of) (Disc1) Tomorrow, Who knows!
  14. North of Watford, You echo my thoughts entirely on this in your very well worded reply. William, If you had managed to get to page 1, post #1, of the 57 pages, #1137 posts in this thread you will see that it was dated Aug 16 2006. It is sad that you feel, after almost three years, you have the need to criticise the packages creator. Soporific has done a terrific job in this sub-forum, although sadly not as active in it as he used to be having moved onto other projects. I was always taught that, we are born with two ears, two eyes but only one mouth and to use them in those quantities. Try it yourself! It will bear fruits in the long term, believe me! Colin
  15. I think I would be inclined to leave them put unless you know they are causing problems, which I doubt they will be. However AnalogX have a freeware program called DLL Archive, which will search for unused DLL entries and you can archive them and restore them again if they are needed. http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/S...ch/Freeware.htm I certainly do not advise just deleting them to save space. 16. Excellent! Good luck from me also. Your posts are always a highly informative read. Best regards, Colin
  17. Thanks CoffeeFiend. I have got to hand it to you guys (Mods and Super Mods) this time. This last dose of crap was particularly offensive and rightly deleted ASAP as was the time when his last offensive posts totalled over 140 in less than an hour covering just about every thread in this sub-forum. Someone or something must have wronged him in a previous life to provoke an attitude like his. Thanks again Colin
  18. Looking forward to this immensely Rick. Your posts on security are always a very good and informative read. I use 98SE and 98SE2ME on two boxes without any resident AV and with SSM Free. I have been relying on both Eset and Symantec On-line AV Scanners for periodic checks while they are still supporting 9X (only time IE6 is used). However I am sure that my use and that of many users of SSM needs a little guidance to become fully comprehensive default-deny. TIA Colin
  19. Yes his absence from these forums is somewhat alarming, his last post was months ago now. Having said that, it would be even more alarming if his homepage was not being updated. Hope all is well. Best regards, Colin
  20. This problem was reported in the following thread back in January but there was practically no response to question posted and certainly no definite conclusions. http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=129107 I had the exact same problem as EvanD, this, together with other display problems with FF3 is why I reverted to FF2 again. After searching the FF forums and following the advice listed and reinstalling printer drivers I could not rectify the issue. Has anyone got FF3 with KernelEx to print?
  21. Thanks for the recent update package, all working well here. I am glad your sticking with Script Update 5.6 as I could never get 5.7 to run without some problems on either of my 98SE boxes. Best regards Colin
  22. Java J2SE (JRE) 5.0 will reach its End of Service Life (EOSL) on October 30th 2009. However, J2SE (JRE) 5.0 Update 19 can now be downloaded from the following page http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index_jdk5.jsp although a bit of form filling is needed to enable Sun to email you a link for the actual download itself. HTH Colin
  23. Hi MDGx, My 98SE2ME continues to run flawlessly and has done since I installed it in April 2006. I am at present still using the 12-12-2007 version, although all more recent updates have been applied by hand so to speak. However, with the_guy raising the subject of the unofficial Q918547 fixes in another thread, did remind me ask the following. According to update 8-1-2006. Options 1 + 2 :replaced GDI32.DLL + GDI.EXE 4.90.3002 from unofficial WinME Q912919 hotfix with newer GDI32.DLL + GDI.EXE 4.90.3003 from unofficial WinME Q918547 MS06-026 security fix. This was later changed back to the earlier version because of a problem with power management, was it only PROBLEMCHYLD that had this issue or could you reproduce the issue yourself? Edit: I have been using 4.90.3003 versions for over one month now with no apparent problems of any sort. Thanks for your work Colin
