  1. Kel! I switched off 'Enable animated images' in my Opera Browser and you fell from the sky! I much prefer something that takes less brain power to operate. .........._______ .....___/|__|__|\____ .=.( _---\__|___|_---_) .........O.............O Much more at this site http://www.rofl.name/a/
  2. Welcome to MSFN! I don't think anyone is about to, or ever will, create an auto patcher for ME. The creator of the 98SE version, soporific took three years to perfect his version into a reliable working piece of software with the help of members feedback. There is however the old and new versions of Service Pack for ME, see this thread for details http://www.msfn.org/...for-windows-me/ However I would recommend you had a good back-up policy in place prior to installing either. You could try 98SE2ME, see the 'sticky' for details of this which will give you the best of ME whilst retaining the best of 98SE. I have been using Option 1 of this since 2006 without any problems whatsoever.
  3. Did you not make a Back-up before you installed the Service Pack? As Gape points out! I continue to be amazed that a lot of user's fail to grasp the importance of making a Back-up before installing a new large piece of software! Get a copy of Norton Ghost 2003 if you can still find one and you can make a ghost image of your complete Boot Drive/Partition to another HDD or CD or USB device. Keep making regular Back-ups! My Boot Drive is only 2.5GB and I can restore it from a Ghost image in less than 3 minutes.
  4. I did replace iecustom.dll on my Windows 98 system with the new version and it seemed to have no ill effects. I assume that MD's patch does that too. No it doesn't include iecustom.dll. Having said that I don't have that at all, in what directory do you have iecustom.dll?
  5. OE Cumulative Security Update KB978542 included in MDIE6CU3.3 released today. See his thread for further details.
  6. No you won't! See this thread by dencorso at http://www.msfn.org/...t-thread-index/ See post #2 in particular and follow the steps outlined in Case One. Everything you require is linked to in post #1.
  7. See also the thread at http://www.msfn.org/...more-9x-support While ClamWin only offers on-demand AV scanning the addition of Clam Sentinel does offer real-time AV features and does deserve better recognition. I personally do not use any resident AV application, but I did test ClamWin with Clam Sentinel and it can be configured to look after any drives or partitions you require. I had it looking after just my E: partition which holds four folders for Downloads, Temp Internet Files for IE6, Temp files for FF and Temp files for Opera. I tried the very basic test of trying to download the EICAR test file in it's three forms, basic, zipped and double zipped and all three were immediately quarantined upon download which is an near real-time scanning as you will get from Clamwin.
  8. The Verve - Urban Hymns (Album) Probably The Verve at their best!
  9. Leave the settings for the wanted drive just as you had them originally if it was functioning OK, I have those settings checked but never noticed any difference in performance whether the Sync data transfer was checked or not! Regarding the audio cable, again just leave it where it is if it functions OK, it was just an afterthought that I had come across a couple of M/B's where the 'Master' optical drive HAD to be in the CD audio socket and any 'Slave' optical drive HAD to be in the AUX socket to function. Any further queries please PM me as this thread is getting a wee bit drawn out!
  10. Always have the floppy first, then the Main Boot HDD second and the DVD third, some users have floppy first then DVD second and then HDD third as this sequence is needed if you boot from a Linux based Rescue CD etc. If the machine finds no media in either floppy or DVD it will go directly to HDD. You may by the way need to swap the position of the audio cable from the wanted DVD-RW to the connector on the motherboard that was being used by the DVD-ROM to get any sound.
  11. Right OK! I see the WD 80 HDD is the only drive on the Promise Card. The unwanted DVD-ROM is the Master on the Primary IDE on the motherboard and the wanted DVD-RW is the Master on the Secondary IDE on the motherboard. In that case, remove the power plug from the unwanted DVD-ROM and remove completely the IDE cable to that unwanted DVD-ROM. Then move the IDE cable connector from the wanted DVD-RW into the Primary IDE channel socket on the motherboard instead of the Secondary IDE channel socket where it was originally.
  12. Ah! You didn't say you were using a Promise IDE Controller Card. No Matter, I still stand by what I said in my post but normal way of doing things is the Main Boot HDD is on 'Master' on Primary IDE and any second HDD as 'Slave' on Primary IDE. The Optical drives on the 'Secondary' IDE channel and the main optical drive DVD-RW as 'Master'.
  13. Not exactly! Before you start make a note of the BIOS settings that are currently in use! You need to reconnect your drive to the 'Master' connector of your secondary IDE cable, if it's not marked as such, it's the connector at the opposite end from the motherboard connector, (the slave connector is the one between these two), and leave the 'Slave' connector free. Disconnect the power connector to the old drive. Check the 'jumper' settings on the back of the required drive are correct, if it has been set to 'Secondary' change the setting either to 'Master' or 'Cable Select'(CS). In BIOS it's now best to set the 'Slave' on the secondary IDE channel to 'Not installed'. Set the 'Master' to whatever settings that drive was in the original setting for that drive when it was the 'Slave', if something other than 'Auto'. Don't forget to 'Save Changes' before exit of BIOS! The BIOS should then see the correct drive at the correct position and it should all appear correct in Device Manager. HTH
  14. I know the thread is entitled "98SE" but sad to say it doesn't work too well on 98SE2ME or full blown ME itself. Whenever you click the cursor on a box containing text to be added or edited, such as the URL or Search boxes you will normally get a flashing vertical line so you can exactly place your inputted text but on 98SE2ME or ME, that flashing vertical line does not appear which makes it difficult to know where your text is going to appear until you actually type. Bug reports have been sent to Opera regarding this problem by a number of users including myself but I cannot see them being acted upon. Works just fine on 98SE, pity it didn't work on the more recent OS!!! Ah Well! Back to 10.00 yet again! Edit: The missing flashing cursor position line is still missing from Opera 10.60a1 released today but there is a workaround that will get you a flashing cursor indicator of sorts in 98SE2ME and ME.
  15. That is correct. diskless: you need a version later than the one you are using. All Flash Player 9 versions will install on Firefox 2.0.0.20 without problem if you use the Uninstall Flash application between installing the different versions. Go to the Adobe site at--- http://kb2.adobe.com...1/tn_14157.html Follow dencorso's advice!
  16. No problem here with those links on Win98SE + Firefox 2.0.0.20 + Flash Player 9.0.262.0 or 98SE2ME + Firefox 2.0.0.22(Bon Echo) + Flash Player 9.0.262.0. Although the actual BBCiPlayer itself does bog down all 98SE browsers while loading Flash for a short while but it does play without problem once loaded. But your two links play imediately!
  17. Thanks for sharing WARNING: This is a development snapshot: it contains the latest changes, but may also have severe known issues, including crashes and data loss situations. In fact, it may not work at all. I hope they don't take as long to cure the missing cursor marker when this version is installed on ME or 98SE2ME as it makes posting and editing practically impossible. Works OK on 98SE so some small blessing I suppose. Edit: It seems other ME users as well as myself have this problem, see posts 5,6,7 and 8 of this thread at http://my.opera.com/...c.dml?id=530532
  18. With the release yesterday of the latest snapshot Build 3344 of Opera 10.52, the problem with Unite has finally be cured! Removing the check from Enable Unite in opera:config will now remove Unite from the browser GUI and will prevent the UDP outbound attempt and close the two open listening ports. It seems a pity that it has taken a month to implement this fix for a problem that should never have occurred in the first instance.
  19. OK! I now see what you mean from that link you posted, certain content asking for Flash 10. I have never played any content from that part of itv.com before as I always go direct to the http://www.itv.com/itvplayer/ and everything I have ever selected to view has run in Flash 9 perfectly well. It does seem strange that one part itv runs on 9 while another requires 10. You have now got me worried that I may not be able to view re-runs of the British Super Bike races this season on the ITVPlayer. I would also agree that in FF2.0.0.22 playback is not perfect, but hey! thats why I use Opera!
  20. Feeder - Comfort in Sound (Album) A very much under rated group led by an even more under rated singer/songwriter Grant Nicholas!
  21. Can you play anything or nothing from the ITV Player? at http://www.itv.com/itvplayer/
  22. I have had no problem viewing ITV Net Player here with Flash 9.0.262 and Opera 10.51 (3315). In fact I was watching the last episode of ITV2's The Vampire Diaries just before coming to MSFN around 30 minutes ago. Edit: Link supplied to player at http://www.itv.com/itvplayer/ Plays in FF2.0.0.20 but quality is better with Opera 10.51
  23. If you check the definition update history for SAS you will see this was added around 03-17-2010 on Definition Database 4693 and has been added/updated a number of times since. If you upload the file at C:\Windows\U2X00_32.DLL to VirusTotal for a second opinion (actually make that 42 second opinions). If no one else flags it then submit it to SAS as a false positive. HTH
  24. ONGD - FREE - McAfee Stinger v.10.0.1.972 This has been updated 07/23/2010 and there are also special build Stinger tools available, follow the link to Tools and Utilities for the very latest versions. http://vil.nai.com/v...er/default.aspx The default setting in Preferences is for removal of infected files, I would suggest changing this to report only on the initial scan. Other setting are available under the Preferences tab. Edit: Revised post information to include latest version released.
  25. I can also confirm the revised DST fix is working correctly now when the UK changed to DST this morning! Thank you!
