  1. Opera 10.01 Build 1844 is out on Final Release. Cannot see it curing all of the problems some users of Opera 10 report but works just fine for me on my 98SE2ME box. But it is important you DO NOT update from Opera's Auto update settings. Update manually using the Classic Installer otherwise you will encounter big problems.
  2. Native means, as the name implies, built-in USB driver support without the the need for installation of additional drivers for each type of USB device being used.
  3. Just shows you where having a few extra brain cells gets you, absolutely nowhere!!
  4. I think I would be inclined to look for another Dell C600 on eBay, and use that as a spares donor, there seem to be a lot for spares/repair at pretty reasonable prices here in the UK and then you might get another 256MB DIMM also.
  5. You could call it ME298SE and what with you going in one direction and MDGx with 98SE2ME going in the opposite direction you are bound to pass each other at some point in the future!
  6. I can confirm this also, well spotted Mcv'93. The inf.file in the package seems fine but the file packaged is indeed 6.00.2800.1612. Obviously an oversight by MD. However I extracted 6.00.2800.1637 from the Security Update for IE6 for Windows 2000 and replaced the older vgx.dll with the newer version and all is working fine on both my 98SE and 98SE2ME boxes.
  7. end for antivirus / win9x? It may also be close to the end for the Trend Micro Housecall Scanner also. Version 6.5 works on 9x but the site also gives access to Version 7.0 in beta form. This does not work with 9x. I cannot see, when V7.0 becomes final, Trend Micro keeping V6.5 online as well as the newer version.
  8. Again, thanks for the latest update package MD. Prompt and as comprehensive as usual.
  9. The Eset on-line AV scanner I mentioned in post#375 appears at the moment to be non functional on 9x. Throwing up an error signal when downloading the latest definitions file. This has happened on a previous occasion and has been corrected but considering eset have never listed it as functional on 9x even in its beta days, it remains to be seen if this will be corrected. EDIT: As of today the Eset on-line scanner is again functional on 9x
  10. A direct link to the .inf in question (or similar) ? Somehow I can't find it from the page you linked to. Instead the provided link wants to download an exe several megabytes big ! It really is easy to find on that page! If you cannot locate it use the following link http://www.mdgx.com/files/IEAKB.EXE It's only 65KB, unpack it with 7zip or whatever and you will see the inf.file. Use that as a basis for working on as sleffing says but it is not as easy as it first seems. Easy solution is to wait until MDGx gets back.
  11. Don't believe everything you read on filehippo as regards apps working on 9x. To me, that is their biggest and probably only failing, keeping up to date with the such info in their descriptions. Majorgeeks doesn't list it as working on 9x.
  12. AVRIL LAVIGNE - Let Go No, don't ask! I just seem to have developed a taste for Canadian female singer-songwriters. Alanis Morissette last week, Avril Lavigne this week.
  13. OK guys, own up! Who's the two buyers in the poll?
  14. The best stand-alone calendar app is Calendar 2000. http://www.gregorybraun.com/Calendar.html HTH
  15. I am sure when he does see this thread he will post with the information just to calm your fears.
  16. Yep it always does work fine on Firefox, it just seems to affect IE and Opera. I reckon it's a cunning plan to get everyone onto Firefox!!
  17. How wealthy do think I am??? No just Tektronix and an old Gould here so looks like we are as equally unwealthy!
  18. How come your PSU is brand new? Have you just replaced it because the last one was faulty or have you just upgraded the PSU? Do you still have the last one in that case? While I'm tempted to ask if you've checked the output voltages of the PSU, I keep forgetting that just because I am an Electronics Engineer and have umpteen digital and analogue meters around not everyone has access to such tools. Even then fault-finding on switched-mode PSU's is sometimes awkward, it may give the correct output voltages off load, and though a decent PSU can supply some very heavy output currents, you can still get faults outside the PSU, that will 'fold' the PSU due to excessive load. Sometimes only substitution may provide a definite answer. However rarely do the words cheap and good appear in the same sentence when it comes to the PSU.
  19. A growing number of 9X users are running without resident AV programs, some are surviving by good housekeeping and some are surviving by good fortune. The periodic use of online scanners is therefore the only method of checking if you are operating a clean machine. The following online AV scanners are currently still supporting 9X. Some require IE and ActiveX and some do list support for other browsers, however I personally run them all on IE6 and is the only time IE is put to use. Symantec Security Check (Virus Detection and Security Scan) http://security.syma...WelcomePage.asp Eset Online Scanner http://www.eset.com/onlinescan McAfee Free Scan http://home.mcafee.c...anDownload.aspx Trend Micro Housecall 6.5 http://housecall.trendmicro.com/uk Edit: Trend Micro Housecall 6.5 has been replaced by version 7.1, this does not function on 9X.
  20. Muahaha, the meme is spreading! Muahahaha!!! Yep! it's spread here and it's going to have to start working for a lot more 9X users in the near future. Problem is, Brain.exe comes in many versions from Bloated versions down to the Lite version and I fear those running the Lite version will see problems quite quickly, unless they learn the basics. You know, the usual stuff! Don't open any email attachments! Wash your hands before meals! Eat more garlic! etc.etc etc.
  21. @charly. I see the bump worked! I must appologise for the criticism!
  22. I don't use any resident AV on either of my 98SE boxes. I use SSM and Brain.exe (both free versions). Occasional use of the remaining on-line AV scanners that still support 9X by Eset, Symantec and Trend Micro House Call V6.5. See the following thread for more reading, especially posts by herbalist on security issues. http://www.msfn.org/board/9x-me-surviving-...er-t133579.html
  23. The only decent Malware Scanner still supporting 9X is SuperAntiSpyware Free. But you need V.4.24.1004 which you can get from filehippo.com. The later versions run very poorly on 9X and the latest version does not run at all on 9X. Even this version is beginning to take a while to open due to loading of the definitions file but it is widely regarded as the best version for 9X. Before running any update go into Preferences and uncheck all Start-up Options. Under Start-up Scanning only check Do not start scan when SAS starts. Under the Updates tab, uncheck every item under Automatic Updates. Otherwise you will download the latest version of the program. HTH
  24. IMHO Better idea altogether. It takes more resources to open Process Explorer than it does Task Manager. If your PC is just on the point of locking up or freezing then opening Process Explorer may just be the final straw and ending up with total lock-up. Better to still have the option of opening Task Manager. (Close program.) Edit; I can remember this question cropping up on another forum four or five years ago, possibly more, but despite searching today I have been unable to locate it again, and, so far as I can remember, the consensus of opinion was then, that it was not possible to remap Ctrl+Alt+Del on 9X.
