I strongly urge everyone not to buy Rogue Killer because it is complete rubbish. I could see no information about system requirements on their websites so I went ahead and downloaded the latest version 16.0.1.0 but it would not install under XP. A Google search soon located version 15.17.4 whose installation triggered DEP notices even though it has been set for essential Windows and Services. I selected open the program after installation but nothing happened, and when I opened it from the start menu it triggered another DEP notice. Buying a one year license and activating it went without problem. I then made the mistake of upgrading to the latest version of Rogue Killer which has been rebranded as Adlice Protect. This resulted in my license being deactivated, so I had uninstall the application. I then tried to install the last version of Rogue Killer before rebranding which is version 15.19.2.0, but as soon as installation finished it started to update program components to version 16.0.1.0 and I was back to where I was before with an invalid license. After uninstalling Adlice Protect I tried installing version 15.19.2.0 with my internet connection disabled, but I was unable to find a setting to disable program updates. I reconnected my internet connection.but with the license correctly activated I was still in trial mode. I uninstalled the application again and went back to version 15.17.4.0 but even with the license properly activated real-time protection and ransomware protection were disabled and there was a notice in the account section of the application saying these protections are not available in portable mode. Also I was unable to log off or shutdown Windows with Rogue Killer installed. At this point I gave up and uninstalled Rogue Killer for the last time. I must have wasted two hours on this rubbish, but at least it only cost me 14 euros. A message has been sent to Adlice.2 points

I finally got in touch with the support, I explained them everything, I even showed them the stack trace and sent them the full memory dump along with the logs. Unfortunately, that was all time wasted as they said that version 18.8.4084.409 is from the November 15th 2018 branch and that although they’re still rolling out definition updates, they will not release any new updates to that version. From what they said, I can only assume that this means that any bug discovered will never be fixed and that essentially they don’t care about Windows XP any longer. I know that they stopped testing updates on Windows XP, but what’s the point of supporting version 18.8 and releasing definition updates if they're not checking them to make sure they’re working and even when users report the issues, they won’t do anything to fix them?! I’m so disappointed with Avast right now, which is a shame, considering that I’ve been a user since the days of version 4.8… The last safe version for Windows XP is therefore 18.5.2342. Anything related to 18.8.4084 can be assumed to be faulty. If you're planning to keep using Avast on XP (like me), please use the offline installer to go to 18.5 and set the updates to manual so that it doesn't get updated. You can still get definitions updates, but you will have to block any program updates to avoid issues!2 points

What about the scandal with those Chinese routers they wrote have a tracking (or whatever) malware in them? https://arstechnica.com/security/2024/01/chinese-malware-removed-from-soho-routers-after-fbi-issues-covert-commands/1 point

What do you have against drug addicts!??! They are the best thing for the climate one could ever imagine, and some of them are very fun people. You, on the other hand, boring church goer from Midwest with 18327723710 children, and I bet every of your off-springs has 263863998 cars themselves. And you wrote you have several too, your family is awful for the US climate. I bet all of your cars use gasoline.1 point

Hey, how're you gonna live, if you're already tired at 18 19? Geez! Throw out your depression into the nearest dumpster, it'll be okay. Find something to cheer you up. Use whatever means to entertain yourself, except for the illegal. And I mean - whatever! As an example, I entertain myself with my hobbies and dating much younger women (25-30 years younger). I never married, probably try to follow D'Draker's path? It's fun, see, no obligations to anyone, and you're free, you belong only to yourself! Forget about the dreaded climate! EDIT, sorry you're already 19, my mistake. Doesn't change what I wrote.1 point

It soon may change when Russia imposes their highest taxes and brings you their worst and overpriced medicine. And Ukraine will simply quit to fulfil Paris climate agreements, even though I have my doubts it ever did in full. BTW: Under Russia, Ukraine gifted the world with Chernobyl, we don't want this to repeat, so do your best, and good luck to you! I'm not sure if I'll be able to go there again due to my age.1 point

Toshiba, Seagate and other crap from that list were always in the lead of failures. You say 5 hours of use, do they honour the warranty?1 point

From what I see with my own eyes, France follows it. For example, I can't drive my BMW R75 in my city 'cause it doesn't meet the new Euro norms, would it be fine in USA? It sucks 'cause I was honouring my grandfather's memories every year with it, I inherited it from him, also it's just a good, robust, manoeuvrable motorcycle, despite being quite heavy, and it saw glorious military usage. Oh, and this German marvel saved me during an accident. I owe my life to it, I wrote about in details some years ago here, on the forum somewhere.1 point

You mean the one on the 95th engine? LOL, don't, keep that gem to yourself. Dude, we are talking about the browser on 118th engine, and it already struggles. Wanna be useful? Tell the readers what's going on, and how to deal with it. I've moved away from it, anyways. https://msfn.org/board/topic/186346-i-moved-to-centbrowser-i-feel-happy-about-it/page/5/#findComment-12775271 point

Nobody asked you to neglect your "career". BTW, no one has spoken of this, and it is not the issue here at all. But if you take the trouble to reproduce something I said, then it should correspond to what I said. And if you don't really understand it, you should either quote it verbatim as you have done now: Bingo! or simply not refer to it at all. P.S.: I think bragging about your "above-average salary", whatever that means and whoever cares, is rather inappropriate and doesn't belong here.1 point

I think it is more something like that ... There was no alpha but a correlation coefficient r of r > 0.95 to express the almost perfectly linear correlation between two statistical variables, the user interest and the (actually my) willingness for publishing. If you want to refer to what I have stated, then please in a correct way. To put it in simple, non-mathematical terms, the greater the user interest, the greater my mood to publish something.1 point

It "seems" wrong. Last year, I had found a browser for Vista users, shared it here, which you aren't, so why posting? You are on Win10 as far as I can recollect, so, obviously it wasn't intended for you! And it was good for its time, not anymore. But probably the developer will read and listen. Losing D.Draker, losing the reading of his private e-mail, all of that would be a huge loss for him. So I hope he will read the post and finally update, and other Vista users will benefit, too. See how kind and caring D.Draker is?1 point

The browser is actively supported with security patches, it didn't "die", no matter how you wish it to. It's just the problem of such rare engine updates, which is probably fine for users in China with their restricted and censored internet, but not for MSFN website with its super frequent updates.1 point

I tested this in my Windows XP VM by copying the VDI file to a partition on my SSD and starting it up with a Linux iso. From there trim worked after mounting the Windows disk.1 point

Yep, but in your Download or more precisely Opening dialogue , you have the option to "Do this automatically for files like this from now on". In New Moon 28 and Serpent 52 (2023-11-10), this option doesn't exist anymore for downloading an exe file when using a fresh profile. At the moment, the only way to directly open the Save File dialogue is to add the missing mime application/octet-stream what I have just done and to set then the option Save File manually in the Applications window. I hope this missing option will be restored.1 point

And in Serpent 52 (2023-11-10), the download window is definitely not resized as it should : Sometimes, it is rendered correctly, but mostly not. @roytam1 Can you have a look into that? And is the content of this window as to be expected? Cheers, AstroSkipper1 point

I wrote: @anton12 "Try additionally" doesn't mean that my provided SSUAO is required. When I checked your problematic website, I tested first a SSUAO without the string Goanna which sometimes causes troubles when loading certain websites. And my provided SSUAO doesn't harm, then it doesn't really matter. Use the native one or any other! The main thing is that the website works with it.1 point

Thanks. That's all I ask. Just so you don't misunderstand me, I mean official warnings from the BSI, as in the case of Kaspersky. I live in Germany, and the BSI is responsible for internet and cyber security in this country. In our country, such security warnings are taken seriously. That's why we have our experts, who are supposed to protect our population.1 point
