  4. Will try both 2.1 and audacium I think they are getting more of it, ya know? :P

  5. Thanks both! I hadn't realised that I had to remove '--kiosk-printing' from 360loader.ini as well, it works fine now! Strangely the Print Preview dialogue appears the other way around for me, with the preview on the left and the menu selections on the right! This might be something which changed in version 13.x of course. Cheers, Dave.

  6. I've read of similar concerns over here...and that it'll probably just increase import of older, stinkier vehicles from other countries unless ICE cars were banned. I occasionally need the phone for phone function, it's mostly for if there's something important to communicate to another family member when away from home. Other than that, it's mostly for accessing the internet so I'm not glued to the computer for everything. Regarding mobile data plan from the cellular provider, I only use few MB per month, usually less than 10 MB, and that's mostly for gas payment transactions, so have no need for fast transfer speeds. Don't need multiple cameras either, even the one is rarely used. Everything from 2G to 5G is fine and dandy here though, maybe 5G coverage isn't as good as older ones yet. US is the 3rd world craphole in my book.

  7. @tpao12 AFAIK, the file winlogon.exe checks the integrity of ediskeer.dll. Using Google search engine, you can read everywhere that nobody has figured out (or published) any methods for patching ediskeer.dll on disk. Any changes in the file ediskeer.dll leads to the unsupported state error message. Generally, I wonder if there is any need of Windows XP Starter Edition in these days. The Starter Edition is just a stripped down version of Windows XP Home Edition which does not have such an integrity check. The user can transform the Starter Edition into a Home Edition by replacing some system files. That's what I know and read on Google results. Or a complete, fresh installation of the Home or Professional Edition. Anyway, that's what I would do if I were you. Cheers, AstroSkipper

  8. Then go VoIP. It's cheaper than both. Point is to use a landline PHONE and the actual service can be VoIP or true POTS, etc. Then again, I'm a VoIP/telephone engineer in my spare time so I have to remember it's not as simple for everyone In my case, all the equipment was free anyways, so it was either use such a PC or watch it be recycled... Right now I live in the city, so yeah, no car. In a few years I'll probably move somewhere more rural and then I'll "need" a car, but for now I don't so no point in having one. Yeah, kind of the same myself...

  9. Thank you - I didn't know that - good to know others here are aware of that member ... so I'll consider it legit. It does work but not portable so it creates appdata folders, but I use CCleaner for that very purpose and monitor those folders very well. I Appreciate your reply :~)

  10. @dmiranda you'll like this one, very good IMO. I've uploaded my song and changed the pitch, key, speed, tempo, everything and exported again into an mp3 (which further squashed it). You can see its in the green and the level is where you should be, otherwise, you're in overdrive territory. Have fun recording those old cassettes of a time when we were young and fearless and hot stuff (if I do presume so). Yeah, that might be stretching the truth a bit in my case, but now I'm a broken down old horse that lost the Kentucky Derby. Oh well, they crazy kids got nothin' on us

  11. I still would never use the microphone input on the computer unless there was no alternative. The level from a microphone is very much lower than from a line level source, so you would have to have the source level set much lower to avoid overloading. Also the microphone input could have equalisation on it to suit a microphone, whereas the line/aux input should be 'flat'. Much better all round to maintain the quality of the original.

  12. Hi Dave and hope all is well. Actually, I have 4 walkman cassettes players and a phonograph only with headphone jacks as output. I've only done it that way - from headphone to either microphone or aux in. @dmiranda mentioned walkman cassette players that usually only come with headphone jacks. But I realized after reading your posting that I should've mentioned the level of amplification from the source going into the sound card could actually cause damage. That is the good thing about Audacity 2.1.0 You need to keep the volume very low on the headphone output and keep the computer volume and open up the input volume levels up to the max. Not only do you not want to input to see blue in huge (distortion city) but when the input source shows up in RED, its too loud; in fact, I keep it very low and increase afterwards at the end. Should look like this: And when done, you can select Amplify if you need to, but I use mp3gain to do that. I'm going to find a way to send to a upload server the Pennsylvania Polka (don't worry, public domain) and see what you think as it came from a scratchy 45 record and I worked to improve it as best as could. I'll let you know when I figure out what would be best. Again, as Dave pointed out, feeding headphones or amplification to your computer can cause damage so start very low in the volume with your computer input (either microphone or aux in) all the way up so you won't wind up in the red. Try it and let us know which version Of Audacity you chose. 2.1.0 has a good mix of features, whereas below its very basic, but above 2.1.0 and its not very stable on XP and crashes on my systems. Good luck :

  13. I wouldn't feed line/headphone level audio into a microphone input, it will probably overload it and the result will be extremely distorted. The aux/line input on the computer should be fine.

  14. I'm sorry I've not replied after liking the posting but I forgot ... better late than never, so they say. What is it *they say* again, I always forget that too hehe. Yes! Its would definitely work - just as you described. From the headphone/aux out (to) microphone/aux in on your computer. Just see which sound the best or less worse Lol. With audacity you can improve the quality a little but then we squash into mp3 anyway =P

  15. Generally, yes. But fortunately, Wayback Machine has archived the official article. Here's a link to the archived official article if you and/or @NotHereToPlayGames are interested in a look: http://web.archive.org/web/20101023015931/http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2401954
