Internet Archive is back online again. however, logins are disabled for now. @we3fan Edit: It's down again. Edit2: It's back again.3 points

Ok. I understand that very well. Completing the new version is a much higher priority. But one thing is clear. A bug is a bug. Or call it an issue, an unwanted behaviour or whatever. Regardless of whether you don't consider it important or don't want to fix it. Calling the cookie GUI via its XUL file directly is faulty. I have investigated and documented it in detail. The script is the same, it is heavy obfuscated and refuses to work too if to block the connection to its site, very suspicious so not suitable. No need to block its connection. The script is simply great. Sometimes, one has to trust. Without trust you can't do anything when using software, scripts and similar made by others. Would be great to have document.loadOverlay() back in Mypal 68.2 points

Hadn't Supermium declare itself portable? It would then be able to hook up with it from its root folder.2 points
-
You're indeed a very lucky one! Many users report the spiking issues, esp. when using browsers, so it's not only Supermium, but I thought win32 would be able to somehow fix the issue. "I'm having the same issue with a 3070. Spikes to max all the time while idling or browsing the internet." https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/forums/user/747572/2 points

Probably a more fair comparison would be to run them both on Vista, Ungoogled runs on Vista ex-kernel up to version 110-111 or so. Supermium was made for Vista initially, that's what I mean.2 points

Can be checked here: https://browserleaks.com/ip "Fingerprinting TLS Clients with JA4 on F5 BIG-IP What is JA4? JA4 is a subset of the larger JA4+ set of network fingerprints. JA4+ is a set of simple network fingerprints for a number of protocols that are intended to be both human and machine readable, and replaces the JA3 TLS fingerprinting standard from 2017 (Salesforce is no longer maintaining JA3). Currently, JA4+ includes JA4/S/H/L/X/SSH, or JA4+ for short. JA4+ Fingerprints JA4 — TLS Client JA4S — TLS Server Response JA4H — HTTP Client JA4L — Light Distance/Location JA4X — X509 TLS Certificate JA4SSH — SSH Traffic More fingerprints are in development and will be added to the JA4+ family as they are released." https://community.f5.com/kb/technicalarticles/fingerprinting-tls-clients-with-ja4-on-f5-big-ip/3262981 point

I personally forbid any of my extensions (or my browser, or my OS, or my text editor, et cetera) from auto-updating. My hunch (without inspecting the script) is that the SaveForm branding is easily disabled directly from within the extension's .js files. Just monitor DNS traffic when that banner pops up then look for that URL within the extension's .js files - I cite as "purely for educational purposes".1 point

Google lens translates it as you need to pay them a fee of 400 Rupees each month for the "better video quality". Now, would you be severely punished (as many others already have) for saying that software is Russian, I wonder?! The local supervisor explicitly forbids to talk about Russia on this forum, which is of course strange, very strange,. I read it in several topics already, including the Yandex phone topic.1 point

The latest version of EssentialPIM works in WinXP, although there is no official support. It supports Microsoft OAuth2. It is a complex system, but it has good documentation and a very active forum: https://www.essentialpim.com/features/overview/pro-vs-free At the moment I still use Outlook2003 as my main mail client, in Microsoft accounts I set up forwarding to a Gmail mailbox. In the Gmail accounts you can also set up an OAuth2 POP3 connection to an external account, also Microsoft; for each Gmail account only one external account (Gmailify): https://support.google.com/mail/answer/6304825 You can also import messages and contacts via OAuth2 and POP3 (ShuttleCloud) https://support.google.com/mail/answer/21289 Regards1 point

"Amazon CloudFront launches support for JA4 fingerprinting Posted on: Oct 11, 2024 Amazon CloudFront now supports JA4 fingerprinting of incoming requests, enabling customers to allow known clients or block requests from malicious clients. The JA4 fingerprint is passed via the Cloudfront-viewer-ja4-fingerprint header. You can inspect the JA4 fingerprints using custom logic on your application web servers or using CloudFront Functions or Lambda@Edge. A JA4 TLS client fingerprint contains a 38-character long fingerprint of the TLS Client Hello which is used to initiate a secure connection from clients. The fingerprint can be used to build a database of known good and bad actors to apply when inspecting HTTP requests. You can add the Cloudfront-viewer-ja4-fingerprint header to an origin request policy and attach the policy to your CloudFront distributions. You can then inspect the header value on your application web servers or in your Lambda@Edge and CloudFront Functions to compare the header value against a list of known malware fingerprints to block malicious clients. You can also compare the header value against a list of expected fingerprints to allow only requests bearing the expected fingerprints. Cloudfront-viewer-ja4-fingerprint headers are available for immediate use in all CloudFront edge locations. You can enable JA4 fingerprint headers in the CloudFront Console or using the AWS SDK. There are no additional fees to use JA4 fingerprint headers. For more information, see the CloudFront Developer Guide." https://aws.amazon.com/about-aws/whats-new/2024/10/amazon-cloudfront-ja4-fingerprinting/1 point

IP address can be shared. And or used by someone else (namely, "hackers"?), whereas your browser is you browser, period. Guilty, case closed1 point
-
Ever heard of circumstantial evidence? That's exactly what all of those "canvas" are. Whereas the Unique ID is used to build a case. No judge will ever get that much into such side technical aspects. But he will take the dog tag as the main proof, don't be delusional.1 point
-
Another two standalone reasons for this unique dog tag advocating could be: 1 - you're somehow affiliated with the police. 2 - simply don't know how to get rid of it.1 point
-
That puts hard evidence on you. My mom's a criminal defence lawyer. In the meantime, an empty string may or may not be received due to a technical malfunction - that puts nothing on you. Telling a "unique ID is better" - giving bad advice to people. Enjoy my expensive but free advice. And yes, as I suspected, @Dave-H doesn't get "human" verification, just like me. This tells your location is already marked as "un-secure" by a spammers' database*, which are plenty these days, and the sites use their services to filter out spammers. *along with that MSFN member from Russia, the one we discussed before, with the same error.1 point
-
So, you prefer to have a unique ID number of the tiny Supermium userbase, or an empty string? Ungoogled userbase isn't huge either.1 point
-
What kind of drawback is it? @feodor2 Any information on that? @feodor2 Actually, this was a feature request. Any opinion on this?1 point

No. Actually, these crashes can't be related to these two prefs settings. I use both for a longer time and didn't notice any tab crashes. TBH, I have never seen this messsge before. This must be caused by someting different. And the crappy eBay website doesn't work well in Mypal 68 for some time. I did an order on eBay yesterday using Mypal 68, and it wasn't a pleasure. You should use uBlock Origin in any case especially if accessing such bloated websites. Do you use Mypal 68 in single- or multi-process mode? Do you use a new, clean profile? Please provide more detailed information when posting issues!1 point

Set both prefs dom.max_script_run_time and dom.max_ext_content_script_run_time to the value of 0 via about:config!1 point
-
Thanks! All further considerations regarding your request will be now done in my thread which I created especially for such things.1 point
-
You're welcome. You can customise Mypal 68 to your needs using CSS stylesheets and UC.JS scripts. I already gave you a link to my thread: https://msfn.org/board/topic/183657-mypal-68-in-windows-xp-custom-buttons-and-extensions/ There, you can find a lot about this stuff. If I understood you correctly, you want to completely get rid of the tab bar. Right? You can do such modifications via CSS code inside the userChrome.css file or via separate CSS files which must then be integrated into the userChrome.css via the import command. The latter is the way I prefer. But first, you should prepare Mypal 68 as described in the first post of my thread under "Reqiurements for custom buttons, other script-generated objects and CSS code implementations in Mypal 68". @tinman2000 Is that what you had in mind? Mypal 68.14.3b without tab bar and new tab button:1 point

Just in: Critical mistake declared in Supermium with the SRW locks; they have been revised to no longer use handles. Please redownload the fixed files. https://github.com/win32ss/supermium/issues/372#issuecomment-19962522911 point

Here we can observe confirmations from multiple users: "45 seconds to start up Supermium..." https://github.com/win32ss/supermium/issues/358 Like I said, this doesn't happen to me with Ungooggled. For me, it's not 45 seconds, but more like several seconds vs milliseconds in Ungoogled, still very high, especially if we consider the fact Supermium "greets" me with a blank white screen (despite the dark theme currently forced on), and it stays unresponsive for like 7-10 seconds. With extensions it'd be much, much longer.1 point
-
Yes, but it's with every browser that has video acceleration switched on, not only Supermium. It's the joy I wouldn't want to get rid of yet, Like I said, I don't watch videos in browsers, I have a huge Philips TV for that purpose.1 point
-
A fair guess is to assume Supermium already includes the kernel mod within the non-disclosed, close source parts, like progwrp.dll, for example.1 point
-
1. No, we got a very cheap, green electricity, here in Holland, I'm more concerned with the unnecessary wear and log waiting times each start brings. 2. The same idi*otic voltage spikes each start brings, why would a browser need to bring my gpu to the full clocking state each start? Then it of course settles down, but it's simply not helping to let it survive longer.1 point
-
I don't understand the question. I have a fast HDD - Raptor, a very old GTX titan (produced: Januray 2013).1 point
-
No tests are needed since it's too obviously noticeable. Ungoogled opens up in a matter of milliseconds, while with the usual Chrome or even Supermium I have to wait for 3 seconds on my HDD. But then again, it may be different with your hardware.1 point
-
Then you've come to the right place, I don't think Supermium will ever be fully ungoogled. With the rate the developer adds Ungoogled features it may only happen in the year 3047. Why? I don't know, probably the ungoogled demand is low.1 point
-
Slower startup and heavier HDD usage. First and foremost, I disable everything GPU related, I don't watch videos in browsers.1 point
-
For starters, even if we leave aside the data collection thingy, it's simply heavier. Ungoogled version has more useful flags for user's convenience, highly customizable. Are you sure you ever tried it?1 point

AVG Antivirus Free AVG AntiVirus Free edition provides realtime protection to your Windows PC from viruses, spyware, ransomware, and other malware. It can block unsafe links, downloads, and email attachments before they are run. Present version comes with an added layer of ransomware protection, which also stops hackers from hijacking your webcam. AVG Antivirus Free 18.8.4084.0 is the last compatible version with Windows XP and, as the name implies, free of charge. Although AVG AntiVirus Free 18.8.4084.0 doesn't receive programme updates, it still protects Windows XP owners with regular virus definition updates. Main features: Real-Time PC Protection - Instantly protects you against even the latest threats. Web Protection - Scans your devices and blocks unsafe links and downloads. Email Protection - Scans your emails (POP3, IMAP4, SMTP) and blocks unsafe links, downloads and attachments. Version history: There is none. And to be fair, the positives first. AVG Antivirus Free 18.8.4084.0 seems to have a good detection rate in recognising malware as stated in the tests performed by AV comparatives. AVG Antivirus Free 18.8.4084.0 offers a real-time PC protection. It is free of charge, compatible with Windows XP, and it still receives definition updates. Now, the negatives. The installation package and the programme itself is unfortunately bloated such as Avast Free Antivirus 18.8.4084.0. Not to mention the resource consumption I had to observe which is especially a problem on old, weak computers. In my opinion, AVG Antivirus Free 18.8.4084.0 is a cheap imitation of Avast Free Antivirus 18.8.4084.0. As reported by me several times, I had various problems with Avast. But AVG takes the cake. After installing, AVG Antivirus Free 18.8.4084.0 caused only problems, crashed my Windows XP computer, and generated BSODs. That's why I provided the download link to AVG Clear 18.8.4084.0 to get rid of this version completely if you should suffer from similar problems. AVG or more precisely Avast does not provide an own version history for AVG Antivirus Free. IMHO, the choice between AVG and Avast is actually a bit like between plague and cholera , but I would always choose Avast if I had to. This is hopefully never the case again, though. TBH, I actually have listed AVG Antivirus Free 18.8.4084.0 here only for completeness to let the users decide themselves. Cheers, AstroSkipper PS: The research for this article was hell. Useful information about AVG Antivirus Free 18.8.4084.0 was almost impossible to find. The support (Avast) only points to their own Avast products. If someone is looking for support for AVG Antivirus Free 18.8.4084.0, he can expect something. And I don't mean anything good by that. Personally, I will think three times from now on whether I write anything about AVG again.1 point

Thanks for your efforts! TBH, I think there is something missing in Windows XP 64 bit. But in the end, we have to accept that Panda Antivirus Free is not compatible with this OS due to problems in recognising an already existing .NET Framework 4 installation. Panda Antivirus Free can't be installed out of the box although .NET Framework 4 is installed apparently properly. Personally, I am glad that I use Windows XP Professional SP3 32 bit (including all POSReady updates).1 point

360 Total Security Essential This article is about 360 Total Security Essential and not about 360 Total Security. These versions are different. 360 Total Security Essential is an antivirus for the basic computer protection against malware and online threats. The software uses multiple antivirus engines and intelligent cloud technology to detect infected files and unknown or hidden threats: 360 Cloud Scan Engine, System Repair Engine, QVM II AI Engine, QEX script killing engine and Avira AntiVir Engine. Furthermore, 360 Total Security Essential supports various types of system scans for suspicious files, which can be further analysed to avoid security problems. The software provides protection on the internet by blocking dangerous websites and making secure online purchases. 360 Total Security Essential has a sandbox that allows you to open files or run applications in an isolated environment without the risk of damaging the main system. Its antivirus also uses behavioural analysis to prevent the system infection and protect personal data against ransomware. 360 Total Security Essential is compatible with Windows XP and free of charge. Main features: Additional antivirus engines Privacy protection Internet security Protection of the file system and registry Sandbox Homepage: https://web.archive.org/web/20200203081602/http://www.360totalsecurity.com/en/features/360-total-security-essential/ Version number: 8.8.0.1119 Date of release: 18.12.2019 System requirements: Windows 10/8.1/8/7/Vista/XP/Server 2008 and above version Version history: Review: https://www.accuratereviews.com/best-antivirus-for-pc-software-reviews-list/360-total-security-essential/ Download link: https://web.archive.org/web/20200402234430if_/https://free.360totalsecurity.com/totalsecurity/360TSE_Setup.exe Screenshots: Screenshot of the main interface: Screenshot of the security configuration with settings I made, especially in terms of the Avira Scan Engine: In this screenshot above, you see I changed the protection mode from the default Balanced to Custom, and I enabled the Avira Scan Engine. Alternatively, you can set the protection mode to the highest level Security. This definitely improves the programme's detection rate. More about the used Avira Scan Engine can be read here. In March 2023, I had installed 360 Total Security Essential 8.8.0.1119 on my second system partition and used it for a while. This version has definitely no such bloatware and crappy desktop manager as I had to notice in the 360 Total Security 10.x follow-up versions I tested before. When installing 360 Total Security Essential 8.8.0.1119, there is an option to install additionally the browser Opera but you can untick it. The whole installation process is far more pleasant than it is, for example, in the edition 360 Total Security 10.8.0.1541. 360 Total Security Essential is quite okay as an alternative in Windows XP where the choice of antivirus programmes is very limited. Although I can't say much about the quality of its protection, you have the option of installing the Avira Scan Engine which increases the detection rate of this programme considerably, as AV-Test has shown in the follow-up version 9.2. Here is an image taken from the test: The impact of system resources by 360 Total Security Essential 8.8.0.1119 is very low. One hardly notices the presence of this programme in the background. And that in my very old, weak system! Unfortunately, 360 Total Security Essential in version 8.8.0.1119 was the last release of this edition. It was abandoned at some point in the past, but its virus definitions could still be updated when I tested it in March 2023. Therefore, I think it will probably still work in these days. But as always, the proof is in the pudding. So maybe, someone can test that and report here. Cheers, AstroSkipper1 point
-
You're welcome! Thanks to @WSC4 for reporting back! So, Panda really meant what was stated as the system requirements: Therefore, we now definitely know that Panda Antivirus Free is not compatible with Windows XP 64 bit editions due to .NET Framework 4 problems, confirmed by @WSC4 and @UCyborg. Accordingly, I noted that in my article. Cheers, AstroSkipper1 point
