  1. What the US Treasury does is out of our European scope, hence the word "think", meaning we, (INTERNATIONAL members), can't influence the US treasury decision. You too need to accept it as a fact. The reason for this topic is obvious. Oh, and I kinda suspect why you don't vote.

  2. Which hoops? TBH, there are none. Of course, only if you have chosen a well-functioning image hoster. In any case, I don't have to permanently delete pictures so that I have storage space for others. Life is too short for posting images via an image hoster, but life is not too short for posting permanently off-topic treatises. Of course! That really makes sense!

  3. You can't do any meaningful hardware performance tests with PCMark inside a VM. You already did that, and as expected, it didn't turn out well. BTW, all your posted images are no longer available. Providing images in this way actually makes no sense at all.

  5. Just for clarification. There was nothing "bumped". My thread "General and specific solutions for problems regarding AU/WU/MU in Windows XP " gets updates and new information when necessary. I am kind enough to share my experience with people. And using MU/WU does not mean that all offered updates have to be applied. It's up to the user to decide which updates are wanted and which not. No need to install all updates. So, I don't understand your objection at all. However, my Windows XP always gets all necessary updates. And that's a good thing.

  6. Hi, Today, I broke rockstar launcher artificial block. Since I can't link you anything, you need to do the modification yourself. Get your hands on rockstar games launcher version 1-0-83 and install it. DO NOT open it! Make the folder read-only and restrict yourself and all Administrators from write permissions. Delete launcherpatcher.exe and run the launcher.exe, let it install socialclub and if for some reason it gets stuck on installing social club, just download the latest one and install it. We are not done, now you'll see an error complaining about missing dependencies. Download CEF explorer and locate social club folder. open socialclubhelper head into import directory and select user32.dll change adjustwindowrectexfordpi to adjustwindowrectex. and that's everything. To be able to play gta v for example, you need to locate playgtav.exe before the artificial block, even versions from 2020 works since the are just a stub. https://prnt.sc/2Ucu5Np45BM5

  7. Maybe "tsu schee" ? In my posting of 10Sep2024 I had displayed a screen shot of the test results of PCMark04 on an Inspiron 7500 laptop (650MHz Pentium 3 SSE-only), run with Windows Media Player 11 installed. The overall score was 568. I have subsequently restored the WinXP partition to a clean, pre-PCMark partition backup. I then installed Windows Media Encoder 9 and PCMark04 v1.3.0 and then ran PCMark04, i.e. with the default Windows Media Player 9, which comes with WinXP, instead of Windows Media Player 11. The overall score was 617. The better test results with Windows Media Player 9 show that the last version for WinXP (i.e. v11) is NOT the best version for every computer, e.g. the old Inspiron 7500. The test with PCMark04 shows that installing the system component Windows Media Player 11 will probably degrade the performance of the old Inspiron 7500. Unfortunately PCMark04, in contrast to PCMark05, does not create a log file showing how long the tests took. The above comparison of Windows Media Player 9 vs 11 with PCMark04 has, however, a major issue: the initial test of 10Sep2024 was not made after a partition restore, so other issues may have contributed to the worse performance of Windows Media Player 11. BTW, Windows Media Player 11 canNOT be uninstalled, only a rollback can be made. I made a rollback to the previous version (i.e. v9) in two steps: -> Start -> Run -> enter %windir%\$NtUninstallwmp11$\spuninst\spuninst.exe -> Start -> Run -> enter %windir%\$NtUninstallWMFDist11$\spuninst\spuninst.exe I had installed WMP11 NOT by running wmp11-windowsxp-x86-enu.exe, but by first extracting wmp11-windowsxp-x86-enu.exe and then running first the extracted wmfdist11.exe and then the exptracted wmp11.exe I don't know how long the test with PCMark04 took on the Inspiron, PCMark04 does not create a .log file. The test with PCMark05 took 7:40hrs PCMark04 does have a special use with very old computers, e.g. the Inspiron 7500 laptop, identifying software and hardware components which slow down the computer, a critical issue for the usefulness of old computers. One benefit of installing older PCMark04 instead of PCMark05 is that PCMark04 works OK with Windows Classic. To restore my previous Windows Classics, e.g. after uninstalling PCMark05, I made the following 3 steps: 1) -> right-click on desktop -> Properties -> in Themes tab: -> select Windows Classic 2) in a Windows Explorer window: -> Tools -> Folder Options -> select Use Windows Classic folders (had been changed to Show common tasks in folders) AND: ->select Open each folder in its own window 3) to restore colors used for high-lighting, etc: -> right-click on desktop -> Properties -> in tab Appearance: - in drop-down box Color Scheme: -> select Windows Classic - in drop-down box Windows and buttons: -> select Windows Classic style I am not sure whether I will keep PCMark04 on the old Inspiron 7500. The 3D test component of PCMark04 still takes many hours. eventually I will test-install PCMark2002. Maybe this old Win98 version is the best version for the Inspiron 7500 under WinXP.

  9. Hey members, "members" (one more time, in the new "style"), I love how you both completely ignore the increased size of the UI, fonts, replaced buttons to the absolutely flat ones, but got glued to the brightness subject. Edge colours are the proper ones, they are tuned by the pros for using in Windows, Gonna argue about that fact, too?

  10. It's the new, trendy overlay they use to get the brightness up. MSFN uses the acidly bright greenish overlay.

  15. VC-1 is disabled by default in LAV?!?!?! Are they crazy? It's the default format for BluRay disks. How is this possible? Probably, you wanted to say it's disabled in MPC-BE, the enemy of old OS? I just can't comprehend who would want to compromise the common BluRay disk standard playback...

  18. I said quite sure, not 100% certain. It's easy to guess because nVidia is famous for making artificial restrictions for older OS in general, a goof example was the artificial rate refresh limit introduced for XP. Sorry, I don't have GTX960/50. I have a GTXTitan (Jan. 2013). And some time ago found a working 780 Ti in the local dumpster (E-waste). Both only support 8 bit H265, not 10 bit.

  19. Not very trustworthy as the integrated version is very old. I believe it is version 3.21. This SystemInfo Explorer version was not able to indicate the correct memory size in my system. It says 2 GB instead of the correct value of 1.5 GB. BTW, the last Windows XP compatible version is 4.48.

  24. PCMark05 is a very sensitive software and also seems to have problems on certain computers if all tests are to be performed. Here are my test results so far: After various tests, changes and corrections in my system, I was able to run all the tests from System Test Suite successfully. Here is my missing PCMark Score: Although all tests from all categories can be run now successfully on my system, the software does not manage to run them all at once. This indicates a bug in the programme, which is probably only noticeable on certain systems.

  29. I have always felt that extension signing by Mozilla (another move of theirs to ape Google Chrome) just gives the user a false sense of security, certainly the non-advaned ones; I found it a real nuisance myself, so I would choose to use unbranded Firefox builds and/or switch to esr/aurora/dev/nightly channel, where the signing can be disabled via a pref... As such, I applauded MCP in their choice of not implementing it in their UXP browsers... And I can't help remembering the whole debacle some months ago involving an expired intermediate certificate, that caused most installed Fx extensions to be disabled, with no possibility to re-enable... Though signed, one can't be 100% sure an extension doesn't include malevolent code, this is true for both the Google Web Store (GWS) and AMO ; signing is basically an automated process now, I doubt addon reviewers manually inspect every new extension update (for existing ones) along with the truly new ones on AMO... This is slightly OT, but now Mozilla have segregated signed extensions on AMO to "recommended-by-Mozilla" and to the "not-recommended" ones (probably ones poorly reviewed, if at all), and the prospective user should exercise caution when installing one of the second group... So much for the value of the contained signature... Returning to uB0, I believe the version on AMO compatible with UXP is still signed; as for the legacy version on GitHub, this is indeed unsigned, but, unlike you, I trust gorhill (a Canadian, BTW) more that what has become of Mozilla these days; the code is still open source, let alone when a broader community of developers/advanced users, without hidden agendas (I can't, in all honesty, say the same about Googlezilla), keeps a vigilant eye over it... There's always a slim chance GitHub hosted files (now owned by M$) get hacked, but this is true for everything hosted on line (even Moonchild's ftp archive got hacked...). In any case, I'm not passing judgement in the slightest, anyone is totally free and independent to make one's own choices here - what works best for you, as long as varied choices remain available... Best regards

  34. I can certainly add this to the list. But, currently my installer is in maintinence-mode (only fixing serious bugs and not many new stuff) due to not having much free time. I have things for the installer of a higher priority when the free time arises, but I am commited to adding an "install as portable" option eventually. But, yeah. As a reminder, @roytam1 is not affiliated with the house of cards known as my browser installer. He ports changes and compiles binaries, I just make an (Unofficial!) installer that eases the retreival and unpacking of said binary archives.

  36. The thing is, @roytam1 didn't write and doesn't maintain the installer; @i430VX does! It probably wouldn't be hard for his installer to ask if you wanted a portable install, and add the necessary options to the shortcuts it creates. But @i430VX is the one to ask.
