Same here by JustOff: Source: https://github.com/JustOff/ublock0-updater/issues/112 This type of update, by simply installing over an existing installation, may have worked in the past, but unfortunately, as shown in my above-quoted proof, it hasn't worked for a long time when it comes to the default filter lists. uBO's settings, self-created rules and self-added, custom filters remain intact as far as I noticed. But why did the users never realise this update issue in the past? The answer is quite simple. After installing or updating uBlock Origin, it automatically performs a download and installation of the internal list of all default filter lists (assets.json) quite promptly. So, a user always got the most recent version of this file from uBO's update server. Unfortunately, this file hasn't been updated for a long time and has become more and more obsolete. In my mod uBlock Origin Legacy, I therefore have removed the auto update of this file and started to maintain it by myself. That's why now a user immediately notice the issue that the new filter lists of my mod are not shown when installing an update of uBlock Origin Legacy over an existing installation and why a clean install is mandatory (and already was in the past). One thing I should still mention. When I make a recommendation that something should be done one way or another, I never do so without a specific reason. Cheers, AstroSkipper

And here is the shortest way to update the installation of uBlock Origin Legacy properly: Backup all your settings using the "Back up to file" button on the page "Settings". Uninstall uBlock Origin Legacy and delete the ublock0.sqlite file in your profile subfolder extension-data. Restart the browser and install the new version of uBlock Origin Legacy. The legacy extension uBlock Origin - Installing over an existing one or performing a clean install? - An investigation by AstroSkipper As I already mentioned multiple times, I noticed in the past that installing an uBlock Origin update over an already existing installation didn't work properly. Therefore, I have examined both installation methods, installing over an existing one and performing a clean install, in more detail. Prerequisites: The untouched xpi files of the extensions uBlock Origin 1.16.4.30 and uBlock Origin 1.16.4.31b2, the browser New Moon 28.10.7a1 (32-bit) (2024-02-23), and a Windows XP computer with all internet connections blocked. Assertion: Installing the extension uBlock Origin 1.16.4.31b2 over an already existing installation of uBlock Origin 1.16.4.30 in New Moon 28.10.7a1 (32-bit) (2024-02-23) under Windows XP does not work properly. Proof: I disconnected my Windows XP computer completely from the internet. In a fresh profile of New Moon 28.10.7a1 (32-bit) (2024-02-23), I installed uBlock Origin 1.16.4.30. Here's a screenshot of the available default filter lists, taken right after installation: You can clearly see that in the "Privacy" group the "AdGuard URL Tracking Protection" filter list is provided. I marked it with a red rectangle. Next, I simply installed the xpi file of uBlock Origin 1.16.4.31b2 over the existing installation of uBlock Origin 1.16.4.30 what we normally call updating. Here's a screenshot of the available default filter lists, taken right after this kind of updating: And what can we see? Yes, the "AdGuard URL Tracking Protection" filter list is still provided in the "Privacy" group although this filter list has been removed in uBlock Origin 1.16.4.31b2. Even a browser restart does not change this situation. In contrast, here's a screenshot of the available default filter lists, taken right after performing a clean install of uBlock Origin 1.16.4.31b2: In this screenshot, we can clearly see that the "AdGuard URL Tracking Protection" filter list is no longer provided in the "Privacy" group after a clean install. I marked it with a green arrow. q.e.d. Conclusion: Installing over an already existing installation of the legacy extension uBlock Origin did not and does not work properly. And this issue has nothing to do with my mod. Therefore, a clean install is (and was even earlier) mandatory. And I'm pretty sure that the result of my proof can be generalised, i.e. that this statement is independent of browser and operating system version. More explanations on this matter and reasons why users of the uBlock Origin's legacy extension didn't notice this problem in the past, I will give later when time is available again. Usually the older cards are easy to identify just looking at the BIOS number, old ones start with 86.04.xx.xx It means they have the usual (old) chip GP104.

This is happening because your card is a newer re-issue, based on a newer chip GP106. The first GTX1060 must have GP104 chip. So you need a much newer driver from the end of 2018. Dave , I had successfuly installed XP 64 (long time ago, without any updates) on my Haswell Laptop from 2013-2014 using only this AHCI driver . iaStor64.sys ver. 11.2.0.1006 x64 I don't remember where I got it . P.S. I can send it to you, of course.

I don't want to "burst your bubble" , but even if you manage to sort out all dependencies of the DLL under NT 5.1, the CDM will be practically non-functional on most popular DRM'ed services (e.g. Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, etc.) ; since years now, Google (owners of Widevine CDM) have implemented the Verified Media Path (aka VMP) security feature: https://www.expressplay.com/products/google-widevine-drm/ In layman's terms, this means that the application within which the CDM is run (Supermium in your case) must've been previously whitelisted/sanctioned by Google ; this process involves acquiring special certificates from Google, for DRM purposes only, and signing various browser components (e.g. "chrome.dll") with said certificates; when the CDM is requesting decryption keys (aka "licence") from a Widevine lic server, it first sends (obfuscated) a payload with extreme detail of the environment it's currently running on; this detail includes exact browser specifics, as well as the OS/device the browser is running on; the WV lic server can reject the licence request if the CDM version/browser/OS/device is not to Google's liking; browser applications are being accepted if they have been signed with that special VMP certificate, and this fact limits the selection to ones offered by the major vendors, ONLY (Google Chrome/Mozilla Firefox and a few Chromium variants) ... Supermium hasn't been granted VMP compliance (being a one-man, open-source, project) and even if its author (win32) applied for such, it could well take several years for this to materialise, if at all ... In addition to VMP, you said you manually edited the DLL: This fact alone changes the CDM's hash value/invalidates its file signature (which is SHA-2, BTW, incompatible with XP) and when the CDM identifies itself to the WV lic servers (yes, it does send its hash inside that obfuscated payload I mentioned earlier), it "screams": "I've been tampered with, just ignore me", thus no decryption keys are delivered to it ... Enter the BIOS, Switch off "Attempt to fix sporadic PCI errors" , or whatever they call it in your BIOS. It helped me when my sound card was conflicting with my LAN card. It too hanged up on the BIOS title screen.

It works with Vista x64, x86, I checked myself. Though, it can't boot from it. I have a classic BIOS from 2009 (without films and games in it).

(see e.g. this old issue in the uMatrix repo) It currently has 161.498 entries! I don't think that's beneficial, especially on older hardware... Also, the maintainer is known to block domains based on his personal opinion (mostly in his additional lists)... I decided to add these two "StevenBlack/hosts" filter lists to cater for those who prefer a more restrictive and comprehensive approach to address blocking. In general, I agree with you. His filter lists sometimes overshoot the mark.

FYI, I mentioned eCleaner, an extension for purging the browser's profile folder, in my main article about uBlock Origin Legacy. I am not doing this, I considered doing it to prevent buggy code being pushed to roytam1's users, but I never decided to actually go forward with it. What's sad is that roytam1 continues to release code to his users that has not been verified as production ready. Code in the master branch of upstream UXP or upstream Basilisk is not always production ready. I have seen issues reported on MSFN for roytam1's builds because he was pulling code from master branches before they were ready. He is doing a disservice to his users by giving them potentially buggy code.

Well, I think I was the first one to point out to that questionable connections, and yes, I remember you checked them. but what puzzles me, I have the same card, I can post pictures (in case of doubts). I use it on a similar to your motherboard (Siemens with Xeon), the same year of manufacturing I guess, I have almost zero troubles with it, apart from it overloading, my PCI express when I copy the files and play a game, all at once, I wrote about it. I use it in conjunction with 6TB drivers. No errors at all. But I'm on Vista.

I totally agree with jaclaz, I had numerous troubles, and not only with those chinocrap cables, but also with their poorly soldered fittings. Those may be oxidized, degraded, and even faulty right from the start.

Perhaps you need to ask @win32 then, since the driver you used isn't mine, obviously. Nvidia Control Panel and CUDA/CUVID/DXVA/Physx and the others you want, they all work in the driver from my tutorial. On the other hand, I also checked his 398 driver and CUVID/DXVA/Physx definitely worked for me ! But then again, I have an ancient fossil , 8 years old GTX Titan X, a piece of crap for poor people. In win32's 398.11 driver I didn't try OpenCL, OpenGL, WebGL and Vuklan, since I never use them.

There was a very rare laptop driver 373.19 Fujitsu and MSI notebook . 1050 is supported and works with Vista x86. One file needs to be replaced for the desktop usage. Dixel had it.

Yes , 64 bit . I thought perhaps you could install x64 . It's better than nothing after all. Actually , you need to slipstream it with Nlite and choose "TXT mode" driver only . It worked for me , and I don't like to complicate things .

I prefer to create something useful , like this miracle. I used brutal techniques from the 90's, early 2000's . I did NOT hack or modify any of the Firefox browser files , so I'm not in violation of the forum rules . The tool works by intercepting and/or redirecting , blocking the telemetry/pings/requests , certain APIs , etc. No Mozilla files were modified and this programme works with a wide range of FF versions ! The Mozilla code is rather primitive , reminded me of some japanese software. One example of how it works . 1- Firefox wants to generate my unique hardware ID and then send it to the Mozilla servers , thus creating a unique user ID (guinea pig's tag). I say : "screw you , sore losers , I do not allow you to make the hardware ID", so the tool intercepts and blocks it immediately ! (How ? It's a secret , I'm sure the FF staff will read it , try patching it , and I don't have time to redo the tool). It works on the fly , it forbids the browser to chew up your RAM with a ton of unneeded processes (Optimize browser button). Main languages : British English . Dutch is there , but not activated for now , I'm sure our Dutch folks won't have any problems with English. Also, I added translations for some Western European Languages like Spanish . And several Eastern European : Bulgarian , Czech , Polish , Lithuanian , Ukranian , I just figured users from these countries could have problems understanding English , while the Dutch , Germans and French most likely won't , so no German , French or Italian.
