  2. When talking about VPN for Windows XP, we have to realise that most VPN service providers have given up on protocols like PPTP or L2TP/IPsec which are suitable and compatible with this OS. Even the paid ones. OpenVPN is very often the only option in these days, if offered by the provider at all, but only due to the existence of the special version OpenVPN 2.5.4 for Windows XP. But then you have to struggle with the crappy TAP-Win32 Adapter. The older, official OpenVPN versions aren't supported any longer by many VPN service providers. All that means we have to take advertising of VPN services working under Windows XP with a grain of salt. IMHO, a lot is promised, but often not kept.

  3. After all these corrections, modifications and uploaded versions regarding my latest release uBlock Origin 1.16.4.31b2-1.54.0. I have created a complete changelog in my article uBlock Origin 1.16.4.31b2-1.54.0 - Special mod by @AstroSkipper so that everyone can see at a glance what has been changed compared to my previous release uBlock Origin 1.16.4.31b2-1.49.2. 4. The latest and probably the last good ported for XP should be 1.9.7 at max., MPC-HC version 1.9.18.46 doesn't even work with Vista. I haven't tried on XP, surely won't work due to LAV filters, also. Take note, that version 1.9.18.46 is at least two years old.

  5. VPN in the form of crx for Chrome on XP. "uVPN has a no-logs policy and is based in Hong Kong, a country that is not a member of the Five, Nine, and 14 Eyes alliances that collectively share surveillance data. So uVPN can truly uphold its no-logs policy." Honestly, i'm not sure whether it's good or not about it being based in Hong Kong. https://secureblitz.com/uvpn-review-is-uvpn-safe-to-use/

  6. I am afraid but as far as I can see, the UltraVPN desktop application is no longer compatible with Windows XP: https://support.ultravpn.com/hc/en-us/articles/360050273852-What-are-UltraVPN-s-compatible-platforms- And UltraVPN 1.0 is from 2006 and unfortunately much too old. I don't think it will do its job in these days.

  8. Extract MPC-HC 2.1.2.7z and put the MPC-HC folder from the archive in e.g. your 'Downloads' folder and put 'mpc-hc.ini' in there as well. Drag all the content from LAVFilters-0.78.0-0.7z into the MPC-HC folder (replace existing files). Then start the program. If you want to use it with the XUL extension "Open With" (see this post) and you want to add its icon to the menu, extract the program icon with e.g. "IconsExtract", put it in e.g. 'C:\Windows\Icons' and assign it in the extension. (or download the icon from here)

  14. I had already looked at these resources before @UCyborg mentioned them. But in any case, a very interesting contribution. The file scriptlets.js is only present in the more recent webextensions and can't be transplanted without code changes if at all. The legacy extensions provides functions via the file resources.txt which was missing in my previous releases and had to be restored in my latest one. From now on, I won't merge legacy extension and webextension any longer in terms of uBlock Origin. The webextensions of uBlock Origin are moving further and further away from the code base of the legacy extensions. Too much incompatibilities.

Pretty much what the topic says, I was able to get Injustice 2 {2018} up and running, after I figured out how to install these new video drivers, I have to admit, it was not easy to find any help topics about nVidia, the search showed only bizarre results. https://msfn.org/board/topic/183688-breakthrough-new-nvidia-drivers-ported-to-vista-tutorial/ But no sound, no matter what I do. Please share the ideas. the game shows no particular errors and works fine.

  19. I ran Windows 95 on a PC with a 133 MHz Pentium and 16 MB of RAM. Though good luck trying it on 1987 computer. https://archive.seattletimes.com/archive/?date=19950924&slug=2143253 Kids today have no clue that have only experienced Win95 on a virtual machine at best, where it installs in seconds and generally feels different than on a real period-correct computer. There was a charm in waiting and seeing the animation and switching between that and text screen during boot sequence.

  21. Thank you for sharing that with us, Sampei, and I'm happy to see you back here again. Yeah good memories on Windows 95 and I forgot much of the DOS commands that I learned in my 20's. It sounds like you enjoyed a nice career in IT and I'd bet it was exciting to say the least and to see what its become now and how 'in the dark' people were back then and just how "trusting" we were. My first computer was a Hewlett-Packard but I cant' recall the model. I still have (both) windows 95 and windows 98 (I purchased Windows 98) with the keys and I save them for the memory sake. XP came installed on this Dell 745 and my Dell Dimension 3000.

  24. Regarding Windows 11, no older Windows version had the kind hardware checks in place like they put them in Windows 11. No secure boot? You're out! No TPM? You're out! Maybe they relaxed at least some of them, didn't check thoroughly. But it does load slower on my machine, uses more memory, even Explorer opens folders with delay (maybe I'd have to check without augmentations in place). Then the settings GUI preaches about eco friendliness, also noticed they cut default timeouts for sleep/screen off in half (balanced power plan at least). On the other hand, Windows XP is also bloated when pinned next to Windows 95. There's also this consistent pattern of people whining for each new Windows release, then they get used to it and suddenly it's good then next version is horrible again and the cycle repeats. Another edit: I personally stopped worrying about load times years ago, as long as it's OKish afterwards.

  25. But do you read about people having hard time using MSFN on under-resourced hardware from 2007 or so? I don't, but I've read complaints over stuff like Discord or even your hacked 360Chrome builds. The word "Discord" does bring over 300 results if you just search this forum for it. I don't remember when I've read the word first, though I've already read about it at least 6 years ago on a fan forum for an old obscure game. Today its admin tells me everyone's on Discord. Bro, I'm not on Discord. Hardly worth the bother, even what little I participate here is more for passing time than meaningful discussions, LOL.

  28. Starting with my coming release uBlock Origin 1.16.4.31, I will only use the uBlock Origin 1.16.4.31b2 version as a guide. As the auto-update function for the internal list of all preselected filter lists has already been removed by me for compatibility reasons, I will maintain this list myself, only if necessary, of course. I will only add compatible and important lists or remove abandoned ones.

  29. Awesome, I found both installer (.exe) and portable (.zip) versions of Youtube Downloader HD 3.7 for XP from its homepage www.youtubedownloaderxp.com (which is now inaccessible), archived in Wayback Machine: https://web.archive.org/web/20230524195329/http://www.youtubedownloaderxp.com/files/youtube_downloader_xp.exe https://web.archive.org/web/20230524195526/http://www.youtubedownloaderxp.com/files/youtube_downloader_xp.zip Happy New Year to you too, @we3fan!

  30. This is the version I am using and the last XP-compatible one as far as I know. Many manufactures haven given up on Windows XP like, for example, MediaHuman. But any deeper discussion about that kind of stuff should be done here only in connection with extensions. Otherwise, we would go off-topic. And I'm not in the mood for that.

  31. We will see what YouTube will come up with next. Personally, I hate all these constant changes and perfidious mechanisms that are supposed to block ad blockers. In any case, thank you for your persistent reporting and testing! And one more request: keep testing to make sure everything runs smoothly! It's a good thing to do when you're surfing anyway. I personally think this version should now do its job.

  32. Due to the problems in terms of filtering and blocking ads in YouTube videos, I had to correct my release uBlock Origin Legacy 1.16.4.31b2-1.54.0 once again. I added some (necessary) code and two filter lists which were not present in uBlock Origin 1.54.0 but in uBlock Origin Legacy 1.16.4.31b2. The two lists are uBlock filters - Legacy and uBlock filters – Resource abuse. Here is a screenshot taken from the setting page: Additionally, I updated all filter lists once again. The new download link and all information can be found in this post: Please re-download this corrected release from the linked post above especially if you already downloaded the old one! Please, test this special version and report here! Any feedback is of course welcome! Cheers, AstroSkipper

  34. Almost forgot, Hide ALL IP VPN review published December 04, 2020 and Verdict. ".. has some good sides - it can unblock BBC iPlayer and Hulu content, it allows torrenting, works with a wide range of devices, and has some extras. It isn’t expensive, either." https://hide-all-ip-portable-version.soft112.com/ "It was last updated on 24 December, 2023. Hide ALL IP Portable Version is compatible with the following operating systems: Windows"

  35. Hide ALL IP VPN is alive and kicking. Interesting feature: "UDP Games (Such as WOW, BF3, DNF, TANK OF WORLD etc), can reduce game lag and hide game IP for play blocked country games", also blocks WebRtc leaks. https://www.hideallip.com/ I'm not available for more detailed discussions, sorry, I'm on holidays.

  38. FYI, I created a new, special version of uBlock Origin Legacy, especially with regard to @roytam1's browser editions, due to some recently occurred incompatibilities of my previous modded versions and presumably other old versions. More about that can be read in this post where I provide a download link for this new version called uBlock Origin Legacy 1.16.4.31b2-1.54.0. Cheers, AstroSkipper

  43. Hi! Can't say much, just tried it, what I noticed so far, the brightness is off, the browser is approx. 15-20 brighter than let's say Brave, it's even brighter than Catsxp. Is it only me? Is it supposed to be so? Thanks for the answer. OS Wind.7 x64
