SciTE

Text editing in SciTE works similarly to most Macintosh or Windows editors with the added feature of automatic syntax styling. SciTE can hold multiple files in memory at one time but only one file will be visible. I am old school. Thus, I prefer to have my tab bar directly below the navigation and bookmarks bar as it was in the older days. Anyone who uses UXP browsers or old Firefox versions will be familiar with the Tab Utilities Phoenix or Tab Mix Plus extensions, which make changing the position of the tab bar in these browsers child's play. Interestingly. there are also Tab Mix Plus versions for the newer Firefox versions. Unfortunately, these do not work with Mypal 68; at least Firefox in version 78 is required.

Good enough for me. It does present a very interesting case study, to be honest. (Has Roytam detailed why he does not compile x64?) I don't know how to test and would be interested in insights towards testing. I hope I'm not over-simplifying, but I've always viewed it this way (I am a "debugger", not a "programmer", but in a very different line of work [automobile engine controllers]) - x86 versus x64 being ran on an x64 system (all of my machines are x64) is two highways running side-by-side. One highway has 8 lanes of traffic (the x64 lanes) and the other has 4 lanes of traffic (the x86 lanes). The x64 lanes of traffic have 200 cars traveling on it, quite congested and where one "multi-clock-cycle" algorithm slows the entire highway to a crawl until it squeezes through. While the x86 lanes of traffic have only 20 cars traveling on it, no congestion whatsoever, miles between each car. Unloading 10 of the 20 cars and moving them from the x86 lanes onto the x64 lanes creates a traffic jam and slows things down. I'm probably over-simplifying. Fingers crossed that one of our resident high-skilled programmers can chime in.

Why? For "small" programs, there is no programmatic benefit to compiling an x86 into x64 "just because".

It makes perfect sense that Firefox 52 could be faster than Serpent 52 (I have not personally tested). When it comes to browsers, it is VERY COMMON for OLDER browsers to be faster. And technically, Serpent 52 is not really "52". It's more like "52 and three fourths". So by that operator alone, we are not 52 but 72. But what else can 72 do that 52 cannot? So we cannot really call it 72. So "52 and three fourths". Although, if you look at the about screen, we don't really call it 52... we call it 52.9.0. So "52 and nine tenths".

The versions v1, v2 and v3 of Malwarebytes each have different formats in which the virus definitions are stored. Although MBAM v1 and v2 store the virus definitions in the file rules.ref, these files still differ. MBAM v3 has completely different files for storing virus definition called rules.mbdb, and additionally the files wprot.mbdb and wprot2.mbdb. That's absolutely correct! Another, nice example is SpywareBlaster 4.6 which was the last version compatible with Windows ME. Updating of the definition files stopped when the version 5.0 was released. The most recent version is 6.0. When updating the definition files in SpywareBlaster 6.0 under Windows XP, they can be used in the version 4.6 under Windows ME without any problems. BTW, SpywareBlaster is on my internal list, and I will write an article about it soon.

When I say a real XP user, I mean using Windows XP on real hardware and no VM. I need a confirmation from a user with Windows XP SP3 fully updated including all POSReady updates as my issue appears only under this condition. Why would I read an article from early 2017 for such obsolete hardware ? We shall have 2023 in a couple of weeks.
