Yes, right! Folks, thanks for the attention! Sorry, I'm not interested. From what I know, it's the remnants of CRC checks that produce this error. I don't know how and when I'll be able to help, I'm in the process of making some money for my military skills. As you all may have noticed my absence for some time. Hope you're all well.5 points

Thank you for your concern, but I'm not interested in the outcome, as I've said, the original version with "favourite" runs perfectly fine, so I'm not currently looking for the solution. Whatever check for the custom modified files there is, it's good, I guess. Thank you, again.4 points

I have scanned both 2036 and 2044 using Malwarebytes Premium Trial and found no threats. 67 files in 2036 plus 70 files in 2044 = 137 scanned items. Zero threats detected, zero detections ignored.1 point

These are indeed properly installed when applying described workaround. I have one of the most stable XP installs around (I think), even infamous Mypal 68 web browser with OMTP (Off Main Thread Compositing) enabled doesn't crash it, even when getting to the warning about running out of virtual memory. That install has a pagefile capped at 1 GB. I didn't push it to the very end as no OS will work properly then anymore and a hard-crash might be actually desirable in this case. Can't reproduce again, even with Panda version 22.00.00. PSUAService uses .NET Framework, maybe it's one of those things that actually have an issue with RTM version of .NET Framework 4.0. Subsequent tests were with KB2600211 installed, aka. Update 4.0.3 for .NET Framework 4.1 point

You're still on that "favourite" business? Wow, I've never seen the Queen's English requirement be such a big deal for anybody.1 point

I think he wrote he doesn't use this browser anymore, if by the 3rd member of Vista x64 you meant your (and our) favourite member @D.Draker. And as I already wrote, I use the original 2044 build with the file crap load removed (I blocked the malicious connections via firewall). The original version runs good'n'fast without virus warnings.1 point

It's a 32-bit Vista, I have the same as @Dixel, on 64bit. Maybe the file needs to be scanned, like they suggested?1 point

If you read, it even tells which file is damaged, namely it's 360chrome. Why won't you simply tell what exactly you replaced it the .exe file? I mean, I can run any comparison tool, but it will just save time. don't you think?1 point
-
I run it with all bloat removed, incuding d3d47 and LibGL. Of course no "doctor". Didn't you read the Trojan message? It says "damaged", not "missing".1 point
-
Most importantly, how would you explain I can run the original 2044 perfectly fine, with or without my starter?1 point
-
No, I didn't. I had it when I tried to mod the 64-bit version, which is not surprising. I wrote here yesterday, link>, I can run 2036 perfectly fine (with or without my starter). I just don't, it's too bright for me. On the testing Vista PC - no AV. The skin is yours, I ran it as it was supplied (before making the decission whether I like it or not). The grey colour in the error because I use the dark Vista theme from pinterest (it's very common here, on this website).1 point

Or, you should have just read my article about Panda Free Antivirus carefully: But it would be much more interesting to know whether Panda Free Antivirus runs stably under Windows XP 64-bit For example, what about the initially reported starting problems of Panda's service PSUAService? Panda Free Antivirus is still compatible with Windows XP (SP3 32 bit editions only). Before I had a go of installing this a month ago, I should have looked at the Panda Security Support sites. https://www.pandasecurity.com/en/support/card?id=84021 Minimum requirements of our Panda Dome products. Windows 11 Windows 10 (32/64-bits) Windows 8/8.1 (32/64-bits) Windows 7 (32/64-bits) Windows Vista (32/64-bits) Windows XP 32-bits (SP3 or later) https://www.pandasecurity.com/homeusers/downloads/docs/product/help/pd/en/160.htm The minimum requirements that your computer must meet to install your Panda product are as follows: Windows 7 (32-bit and 64-bit), Windows Vista (32-bit and 64-bit), Windows XP (32-bit with SP3 or later), Windows 8 (32-bit and 64-bit), Windows 8.1 (32-bit and 64-bit), Windows 10 (32-bit and 64-bit), Windows 11 (64-bit). However, they do say they supported XP 64-bit for Panda for Desktops and Panda for File Servers. A few additional remarks about Total Commander I totally forgot to mention in my quoted post. I find it simply incredible that the current version 10.52 of Total Commander is still compatible with Windows 95 and higher. Apart from that, there are a few things to note that make this file manager unique: comparing files and folders, creating and verifying checksums, establishing data connections via FTP, LAN and WLAN, integrating external programs in the form of functional buttons (for example TeraCopy), filing important program links (shortcuts), bookmarks for important folders, installing specific plugins to access external file systems like Ext2, Ext3, Ext4, exFAT etc. apart from FAT32 and NTFS, and the possibility of activating further functions by modifying the two settings files wincmd.ini and wcx_ftp.ini to meet the individual needs of the user even more. wincmd.ini is the main configuration file, and wcx_ftp.ini contains everything related to FTP connections. And all that I have listed here is just a drop in the ocean. You won't really be able to list all the functions of Total Commander. Even after 28 years, I regularly discover new functions. And I particularly often use the copy and move function for files and folders with integrated checksums' verification, which can be modified in the settings file wincmd.ini so that both the current date and the creation date of files are not changed. Here is a description of the settings for Total Commander's main configuration file wincmd.ini: https://www.ghisler.ch/wiki/index.php?title=Wincmd.ini And here is a screenshot of my TC's main window including some markers and the mentioned settings files, which can be edited at any time: Cheers, AstroSkipper1 point

I was searching this thread and I noticed that one of the most important programs for Windows has never been mentioned here, even though I use it most often day by day. It is Total Commander, probably the best known and in my opinion the most powerful file manager for Windows ever. Total Commander (TC) is a two-column file manager for Windows modelled on the legendary Norton Commander from the days of DOS. There are also free variants for the smartphone and tablet operating systems Android, Blackberry, Windows Phone and Windows 10 Mobile. Total Commander allows convenient file management, offers an integrated ZIP utility, an FTP client, a multi-rename tool, a very good search function with filters, and so on. Its functionality can be extended easily by addons. Here is a picture of TC's main window: Homepage: https://www.ghisler.com Download page: https://www.ghisler.com/download.htm Addons page: https://www.ghisler.com/addons.htm And here are all 12 screenshots from TC's homepage to demonstrate different features: https://www.ghisler.com/screenshots/en/01.html Many features of Total Commander are described here: https://www.ghisler.com/featurel.htm The latest version is 10.52 from 26-10-2022 and still XP-compatible. Although it is shareware, it is fully functional. There is only a small nag screen when the program is started. Total Commander is offered in form of different installers. A 32-bit version only, a 64-bit version only and a 64-bit+32-bit combined. The 32-bit version is compatible with Windows 95 up to Windows 11, the 64-bit version with Windows XP up to Windows 11 and the 64-bit+32-bit combined with Windows 95 up to Windows 11. There are installers for USB sticks and even a 16 bit version for Windows 3.1. Total Commander has a multiple language and Unicode support. Total Commander is my favourite and most used program, even under Android. I use Total Commander (formerly Windows Commander) since 1995 and can recommend it without any reservations due to 28 years only positive experiences. Greetings, AstroSkipper1 point

Yep, that's right. The main executable UniExtract.exe is from 29.01.2023, but the last updated files inside the archive, index, lconvert.exe and pea.exe, are from 27.03.2023. They have therefore only released it on 27.03.2023. Here is a link with further information about this nightly build: https://softreview.ucoz.ru/load/11-1-0-96 Greetings, AstroSkipper1 point

SpywareBlaster is not an antivirus program. It doesn't have a scan engine and all the features which are typically for AV programs. It cannot detect and certainly not delete viruses or malware. SpywareBlaster is a tool that tries to prevent prophylactically the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, dialers, browser hijackers, and other potentially unwanted programs, but only in supported browsers. So SpywareBlaster is a kind of additional security layer or immunizer for browsers. It updates its protection database on a monthly base and still does of today. On my Windows XP computer, its program window unfortunately produces an error since version 5 when closing. I use it for many years especially to immunize the Internet Explorer, but it doesn't support our @roytam1's browsers or 360Chrome, unfortunately. @mina7601! It would be desirable if research were carried out a little more deeply and in accordance with the facts. Such statements are otherwise rather misleading.1 point

Thanks! But which loss do you mean? There is personally no serious loss. If Malwarebytes really stops rolling out fresh definition updates, the current state will be good enough for a while. Of course, no new definition updates would be a great pity and another setback for all users on Windows XP and Vista. But my license is also valid for the most recent 4.5.25 or upcoming versions, i.e. versions targeting Windows 7 or 10. It's a lifetime license, whatever lifetime means, of course especially according to the recent experiences made.1 point

And now a note especially for my German compatriots. The online webstore MediaMarkt was no longer fully functional in New Moon and Serpent. A few days ago, I posted the problem in the issues of martok's palefill: https://github.com/martok/palefill/issues/66 As always, martok did a great job and fixed the problem. Furthermore, he still added compatibility with Serpent 55. Now, you can shop again with our UXP browsers, especially in case anyone still needs Christmas presents. The new version 1.25 is already released and can be found here: https://github.com/martok/palefill/releases/tag/v1.25 Further changes and fixes have been made. The complete changelog can also be read there. Cheers, AstroSkipper PS: MediaMarkt is active in different countries, so the fix might help (presumably with minor modifications) non-Germans, too.1 point

It is rather language than culture related. In German, we very often prefer much longer sentences as it is the case in English. But I always pay attention to correct grammar and consistency of content. Over the last months, I already reduced the average length of my sentences. But no one can quite deny their true nature.1 point

There is no Firefox extension for this "VPN service" called Ultrasurf. And, the Windows client is rather a joke. I had to allow all connections of this client in my firewall to get it work, which I never had to do before for a VPN client and don't like to do. Next problem, you can't choose a certain location. Therefore, I was connected instantly to the USA without asking me. No good! And for a European, certainly not! Furthermore, the connection is as expected very slow, not to mention security and privacy concerns in terms of NSA & Co. In general, I would really like to ask you if you have actually tested any of what you recommend here? I am just beginning to doubt that.1 point
