@WSC4 These tests should be taken with extreme caution. There were positive tests, but also negative ones. For me, Panda Antivirus Free ran very well and did its job without any problems a few months ago. I would reinstall it again immediately if Malwarebytes one day no longer provided virus definitions under Windows XP. BTW, the main reason for using Malwarebytes is that I own a lifetime licence. And one thing should not be forgotten. Under Windows XP, you can't be as picky as under new operating systems that are supported by all manufacturers. I know. I tested Panda Antivirus Free months ago and used it a longer time. It worked great in my system. Windows XP Professional SP3 32 Bit is simply great. @George King As I don't use Windows XP 64 bit, it would be great if you can do additionally some tests under this OS. Maybe, a fully updated Windows XP 64 bit is necessary to get Panda Antivirus Free installed. I performed a deeper research via Google and found a lot of similar reports about .NET Framework 4 problems under different OSes when installing Panda Antivirus Free. In Windows 7, for example, a system patch seems to be necessary if the .NET Framework 4 error occurs. Anyway! One thing is totally clear. I don't see it that way. Modding shouldn't be regarded as "time wasted" simply because what is modded today will need performed again 2 or 3 years down the road. Today's Linux is nothing more than modified open-source "mods" of yesterday's Linux. Backporting Opera not intended to run on Vista or 7 and getting it to work on Vista or 7 should never be thought of as "time wasted". An "extended kernel" is nothing more than an evolving set of "mods". Nowhere near "time wasted". Tweaking and modding and optimizing an OS should be regarded as learning experiences, technological evolution, the computer equivalent of hiking a trail in a rain forest opposed to walking a treadmill at the gym. Extending a kernel is never "time wasted". I guarantee you that folks that "extend" kernels were tweaking and optimizing Win98 long before they were "backporting" Win10 functions to Vista, for example. I'm only "just now" migrating some (not all!) of my XP systems to Win 10. I guarantee you that the XP install I was using yesterday is not the same as the XP install I was using 20 years ago. And the learning experiences of tweaking and optimizing XP over the years only assists is tweaking and optimizing 10. Doesn't the gaming community tweak and mod in the spirit of competitive advantage? Should we view that as "time wasted"? (I cite that one as a bit of a pun).

Here is a short quotation: In my Alphabetical list of working antimalware, firewall, and other security programmes for Windows XP, I will list only those programmes which were reviewed by me in the form of an article with all necessary information. I keep an internal list of 77 security programmes and services (as of 15.09.2023). I already reviewed 24 of them. So, there is still a lot to do. And of course, AVG is on this list, too. I will write an article about it soon. And I'll do that although I don't like AVG due to bad experiences I made in the past. But, as I already said, this project is very extensive and involves a lot of work. And, it's not my only project here on MSFN. I am very experienced in writing articles, and that's no problem, either. But, the most time-consuming actions are thorough researching, testing, and sometimes, fixing problems as in the case of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.75.0.1300. Hello @VistaLover (and of course all others interested in extensions for our beloved UXP browsers)! In the next post, I provide an update for my fork Check My IP Address & Location. I added four further time intervals, all less than 1 min. If you are still using my extension, then you should update to the new version and use the 1 sec interval for checking IP changes. If you use this interval, the detection of an IP change takes place without any significant delay (at most 5 seconds for VPN connections, almost no delay for direct connections).

I already predicted it would have happened (link), I'm not surprised, even though folks wrote their chrome still worked on the old Win 10 at that time. So looks like now 1809 is the new bare minimum, link. And like I said before. the whole memory function would have to be replaced to be able to run on such old versions, link. This would explain the delays with the Chinese forks of Chrome for Win 7. Each new release will be harder and harder to port, so build from scratch is the only method left. As you all see, I could be the new clairvoyant, in addition to @D.Draker, I think I don't even have to mention, @jaclaz's half-functional (maintenance mode?) crystal ball is already mine.

Here is the future of Chromium on Windows 7: https://github.com/win32ss/supermium I have been closely tracking the many changes made to Chromium since November 2022, made with the intent of dropping support for Windows 7 and 8.x. As of version 111, it became very difficult to keep the newest versions running on Vista with the extended kernel; shared memory allocation changes made it impossible to do so as subtle changes to the API (which were done in kernel mode) prevented stable operation of the browsers. So I decided to build my own Chromium. I discovered that a further change was made to the shared memory allocation which broke it even further; the successor to mojo, IPCZ, was forced on by default. It only works properly with Windows 8.1+'s shared memory API. I disabled IPCZ for pre-8.1 and this made the sandbox work again on Vista and 7. Perhaps I will see exactly why IPCZ is broken (from the Windows API level) and try to fix it for the next release. The only win32 API link I can find is CreateFileMappingW, which I need to test with an IPCZ-enabled build on both 8 and 8.1 to see what makes it fail.

OT: My first computers were an Atari 800 XL with 64 KB RAM from 1984 and an Atari 1040 ST with 1 MB RAM (upgraded to unbeliebable 4 MB) from 1986. One year later, 1987, I bought an external Quantum HDD for my Atari 1040 ST. This HDD is now an unbelievable 36 years old and still working. And both Atari computers, too. A Quantum hard disk was something like a Mercedes at that time and of the very best quality. I am quite sure that you won't get any HDDs in these days which last such a long time. And I should mention that this Quantum HDD never got any data refreshing in all the 36 years. It seems that hard disks of such quality probably don't need that either.

Did you try to replace them with just empty files ? I don't have this browser, but could you look with Dependency walker ? Look if it has them in the import directory, I highly doubt that.

I think a simple block rule is totally sufficient although Process Hacker is not able to connect to his update server anyway.

Hello all , I have a question regarding Nvidia drivers . To be brief : I have GTX780 which has 100% support in Vista, however I can't get DTS HD MA passthrough to my receiver , the reciever also supports DTS HD MA . No matter what I do (tried all drivers, etc) , only ordinary DTS and DD5.1 are available through Vista. If I install W7 (not changing any hardware) - the problem is gone ! Of course I'm not going to use W7 , obvioulsy . I've tried to install Vista SP2 on my friend's similar hardware - the result is the same. If it's not enough info , I will gladly explain in details. Perhaps someone had already been that road . Thank you .

Hello , I've been observing this topic for quite some time. First of all , I really admire your work , it's fantastic ! Some may not believe , but I'm still running UNpatched Vista x64 SP2 and haven't had any issues. The only update I have is DX11 for gaming. And yes , there's still a good number of Vista users. May I ask, if you have the modded files for virgin SP2 . I just wanted to try to launch some games that require missing APIs. Perhaps if someone will kindly give me the patched ISO , I'll also try to test , but for now the vanilla SP2 files are enough for me. Thank you !! P.S. Wanted to ask/suggest . Any plans to make something like zernel35 , like they did for XP ? Messing with system files isn't for everyone (I guess). I've managed to launch some unsupported programmes just by adding/hooking new DLL's in their folders, sadly I lack advanced programming skills , like you.
