  3. Yes there is! Why would I tell, if it din't allow me to choose this option?!!??! See for yourself! https://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/select-boot-device-on-uefi-bios/ My MOBO allows me to select the booting device 1st optioin: "UEFI HDD" 2nd option: just "HDD" 3rd option and up to 10 or so, allows to select other UEFI or non-UEFI devices. Motherboard model: Biostar KabyLake H110MHV3 https://motherboarddb.com/motherboards/594/ So, like I wrote, I switched everything to "normal", and finally was able to install Windows 7! I hadn't tried Vista on that board.

  4. I myself have a KabyLake board, made in 2017-2018, I was able to use Windows 7 only after I changed from UEFI HDD to normal HDD and disabled all UEFI features that were shown in BIOS, including the GOP. UEFI 2.3.1 on paper, in theory yes, the question is, what people really want, it might be too hard to achieve, or nearly impossible with most of motherboards made after 2014. I haven't tried Vista on that kabylake mobo, but with the Haswell gen., it worked fine, but then again, Haswell is 2013, and the OP didn't tell us anything about his mobo.

  5. Yes! They surely implemented limitations in with Windows 7, with Vista one would have more success. Only Windows 8 / 8.1 / 10 can boot in real UEFI mode. Windows 7 doesn't even support the new UEFI GOP (Graphics Output Protocol) https://superuser.com/questions/1172089/can-only-install-windows-7-in-uefi-legacy-mode https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2828074/windows-7-setup-hangs-at-starting-windows-on-surface-pro

  7. The scan of the latest version obtained through its update function In any case, it does what it's supposed to, but the .exe indeed imports many functions, supposedly it uses some closed library for what it does and it uses some Windows' crypto store to store the data. It generates same codes as KeePass with default settings for TOTP, there's no extra configurable parameters and it seems you can't see the secret key anymore after you've stored it, which is mentioned in the FAQ. I don't have experience backing up the data that are in that Windows' crypto thingy, haven't needed to so far, looks to be very similar to Chrome which ties some profile data to the Windows user account, so normally not transferable. I guess it's up to the reader to decide.

  8. This is your theory, There's no punctuation marks, nothing that would support it. Microsoft calls them "UEFI/GPT-based hard drive", motherboard manufactures remove "/gpt-based" and it becomes just "UEFI HDD", "UEFI CD" and so on. You're not agree with the new, official MS terminology? Sue them. While at it, don't forget to deal with the Chinese, for their poor English. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/manufacture/desktop/configure-uefigpt-based-hard-drive-partitions?view=windows-11

  9. In the picture you posted there is a MSI motherboard's bios menu and the UEFI text before the hard disk name signalizes how the MB's software will try to boot from it and does not refer to the hard disk itself for which you will get both boot options regardless of whether this hard drive contains efi or lecagy bootloader (or none).

  10. Which reaction? No need to sue the Chinese, but knowing when something is incorrect usually helps in life. jaclaz

  11. First, it's not my mobo we are talking about, second - it's how MS calls them now. It's how they call them at tomshardware.com. "HDD not showing up as UEFI" https://forums.tomshardware.com/threads/hdd-not-showing-up-as-uefi.2648298/ I'm not sure why such reaction, honestly. I don't even argue with you, jaclaz, many things in modern life don't make sense, but I'm not the inventor of them. And here more screenshots. Look - "UEFI hard disk". or just "hard disk". I also saw "normal HDD", too! Sue the Chinese then, maybe? Write a complaint to MS? I'm sure the new guy is also not the inventor of that nouveau terminology.

  12. In all modern MOBOs it's called "UEFI hard disk drive", not "UEFI/GPT-based hard drive". Some mobos just say "UEFI HDD". Here's a screengrab.

  13. Please open the folder, search the files and show us "chinese addresses". Otherwise it's just talk, and too much of it, I might add.

  14. "UEFI/GPT-based hard drive" makes sense (particularly in MS jargon). "UEFI HDD" (particularly when compared with "normal HDD") makes none. jaclaz

  16. OFFTOPIC Almost everything I post here is a thank you, a tribute, an attempt to cooperate in some way. To add my grain of sand. For my use Serpent works great. I don't need it to be perfect. I just need it to be functional. I thought I would share a trick that has been useful to me and that I discovered recently. Always trying to improve the performance of XP, I check the hacks pages from time to time and I found this one. Since I applied it the applications started to launch at the speed of light. Almost instantly. If you haven't tried it yet, I recommend it. I also applied several other tricks from that same page with success. But none of them left me so amazed. I wish I had discovered it years ago! lol Hope you enjoy it. https://tweaks.com/windows/37016/memory-performance-tweak/

  18. By real I was understanding using XP as a main OS, and obviously all the software I write is written on XP and runs on XP. I stick to XP because the hardware I use works just fine with it and newer OSes would be slower for most things. Also I dislike newer Windows several reasons that are outside the scope of this thread but I did use Win10 at work in the past and I really did not like it after some tweaking it was better but with the updates all my settings were reverted so I would end up disabling mot updates which kinda defeats the point of having an up-to date OS so it was not the best idea for me. I do not know what I will do when GitHub will force 2fa, probably I will migrate somewhere else.

  25. Solution for the error code 0x80244004 while accessing the WU/MU website using ProxHTTPSProxy or HTTPSProxy If getting error code 0x80244004 while accessing the WU/MU website using ProxHTTPSProxy or HTTPSProxy, one should check or perform step 11 of my complete guide for restoring IE's access to WU/MU website using ProxHTTPSProxy or HTTPSProxy in Windows XP. It has to be verified the existence of the patched file wuaueng.dll in the corresponding folders I mentioned in my guide. Be aware of SFC which tries to restore an original, old version of this file! After patching, restart your computer and check again! Now, the WU/MU website should finally work if there are of course no other errors. Cheers, AstroSkipper

  26. Vista and 7 don't support UEFI boot mode (which is the default BIOS setting for Sky/Kabylake systems since 2015), but I'm sure you knew that already? This error due to USB, no, I don't think so, he wrote he installed the system , so the USB stick worked, but he can remove it, just to make sure, after the install completed, before the final reboot.

  27. go to BIOS and change the boot device from UEFI HDD to "normal" HDD.

  29. RL comes first. When I have a bit more time, I will update my post, of course. 7-Zip ZS sounds interesting but if not compatible with Windows XP, it is of no use for me on my main desktop computer. Don't forget I am a Windows XP die-hard fan! But I will check it on our Windows 7/10 laptop. In any case, thanks for the information!

  31. No , those are good , esp. when running certain games, besides they are pretty popular among people who work with graphics , DDS and the such, take a look at first gen. Titan prices , still over 250 Euros for a card which is almost 8 y.o.
