  1. It would appear that OhSoft oCam now works on vanilla Windows Vista SP2 again (Extended Kernel is not installed on my system; I'm using the localized method to run some software like Firefox Quantum instead of replacing system files), after a brief period of being broken (since version 5.00) due to calling Win7+ functions, but it now works just fine. Happy to see a developer still dedicated to supporting Vista out there OhSoft oCam has regained ONG status once again:

  2. Here, you will find a list of software compatible with Windows Vista, after installing the new extended kernel by Win32. As this project is very new, this list will remain quite short for the time being. List: BeamNG.Drive 0.16 and later Chromium versions 53-73 beta (later versions currently do not work) Firefox "classic" versions 53-56 Firefox Quantum version 57 and later GIMP 2.10.18 Google Earth 7.3.3 and later Interlink Mail client Logitech Gaming Software 9.02 Opera 44 (later versions currently do not work) Palemoon 28.x Rocket League Thunderbird versions 53 and later Waterfox Classic Waterfox Current Whatsapp I will continue to update this list as more software is made compatible. Feel free to contribute your own additions in the form of a reply to the topic, and I will add them ASAP.

  3. To prevent user confusion, I strongly recommend disregarding the tutorials and contacting me directly instead about the extended kernel. The original post was removed as it was continuing to confuse users. There will be further discussion about the evolution of the extended kernel in the coming pages.

  5. You can smoothen out the fonts in Firefox by switching back to the old font rendering. Go into about:config - > gfx.canvas.azure.backends > direct2d1.1,cairo,skia (old font rendering) gfx.content.azure.backends > direct2d1.1,cairo,skia (old font rendering) (compliments Aris from CustomCSSForFx) Or if you're using CTR in Wf Classic, (the sane man's way to use Australis) navigate to the advanced column and tic the box to use Old Font Rendering. Still, the best fonts I've seen are from Advanced Chrome. They have a custom mask over DirectWrite/Skia that makes it appear suuuuper sharp and crisp. Sadly it's x86 though so the kernel doesn't yet support it. https://browser.taokaizen.com/chrome-directwrite/

  6. Would it be possible to make a patcher that identifies the method to add the functions for the user's Vista install, and modifies the dlls without the user having to fool around and possibly break something?

  7. Alright, thanks for the quick answer

  8. Yes! And also, unlike Firefox Quantum, H.264/AAC are working, and after noticing the slightly smoother fonts compared to other browsers, I noticed Directwrite font rendering is working also!

  9. And look at that, Aero Glass is back. And it looks much better than the blue window borders in the last official versions. Remember, Vista is not XP! Visual Studio Code 1.46 (based off of Electron/Chromium 78) is working, as is PassMark PerformanceTest 10.0 x64 (except for the DX12 part obviously).

  11. Not yet, but I've just installed Vista on my i5-7200U laptop and I'm working on getting my Intel HD Graphics 620 drivers working. That work should also benefit those using other GPUs. Also keep an eye on the NTOSKRNL extender project as that seems to have added many functions and also compiles for Vista x64.
