  2. Just to be picky: XP is going to reach EoS (end of service / end of support), which MS can decree unilaterally, this coming April. That won't, however, be EoL (end of life) because users all around the world will keep on running it and it'll still command something more than half the 3.5% market share it does today, at that point, which is more than 2k, 9x/ME and many flavors of PC-unix do, these days. On OS can only die when nobody uses it anymore, so that, in truth, not even OS/360 or CP/M-86 have really reached that point yet. Just my 2¢, but I respectfully ask you to edit the 1st line of your 1st post in this thread to change it to say EoS, instead of EoL. My current slogan is: EoS != EoL. Long live XP!

  3. Adobe Reader 11.0 (Acrobat Reader XI) is the final supported version on Windows XP (requires SP3). However, a final update was released in 2017 which brings it up to 11.0.23. It's not widely publicized. EDITED: 11.0.23 is a CUMULATIVE update. This means updating to 11.0.23 requires having the 11.0.10 or higher version already installed. You can download the 11.0.10 installer from here (ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/11.x/11.0.10/en_US/AdbeRdr11010_en_US.exe) and then update to 11.0.23 here: (ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/11.x/11.0.23/misc/AdbeRdrUpd11023.msp) (these are United States English, you can pick the proper link for your country in the root directory: (ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/11.x/11.0.10) I've also archived them for the inevitable day Adobe deletes them from the server: Installer (http://sdfox7.com/xp/sp3/EOL/AdbeRdr11010_en_US.exe) and update (http://sdfox7.com/xp/sp3/EOL/AdbeRdrUpd11023.msp) If you have XP SP2 you'll have to take Adobe Reader 9.5 (ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/9.x/9.5.0/en_US/AdbeRdr950_en_US.exe) and update to 9.5.5 (ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/9.x/9.5.5/misc/AdbeRdrUpd955_all_incr.msp) EDIT (I added this to a later reply in this thread): I may have made a mistake. Download the newer 11.0.10 installer, then update to 11.0.23. I wasn't aware there were installers available for the versions after the RTM 11.0 release. The 11.0.10 is the last installer made available, the remaining updates are cumulative and require a previous version of the product installed. I'm pretty sure you will be successful. Adobe Reader 11.0.10: ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/11.x/11.0.10/en_US/AdbeRdr11010_en_US.exe Adobe Reader 11.0.23 update: ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/11.x/11.0.23/misc/AdbeRdrUpd11023.msp

  4. We have a similar thread called XP spotter, where members can post pics of XP running in the wild. But.. I thought it would be fun to make a new thread where people can show off their own NT 5.1 and 5.2 systems running in the wild Purpose of this thread is just to create some more community involvement. XP running in VMware unity Mode on 2003 X64 Bit.

  6. ... This was also linked to by @roytam1 in the corresponding XP thread: The thing is, I had previously landed in that "repo" some weeks after 2.49.4 became EoS (or rather the Mozilla ESR 52.9.0 platform it builds on...), but I was dismayed to find out that only win64 builds were offered... ; so I was pleasantly surprised to discover a win32 build is now available: Not an official build, surely; these are being compiled and offered by a dev named Bill Gianopoulos (of Greek descent), he states himself that: It comes with ChatZilla, DOM Inspector and Lightning extensions pre-installed (as system addons), too (PS: I couldn't help noticing the increase in size for file xul.dll, from 53.1 MB in official 2.49.4 32-bit (compiled with Visual Studio 2015) to 61.7 MB in latest "nightly" (compiled with Visual Studio 2017 )) ...

  7. Happy New Year all! Thanks for keeping the topic alive while I've been gone. Finally got around to updating the list. As for Skype, it appears that the only version users seem to be having issues with now is version 7.38.x, instead of 7.36.x, so I have pointed this out in the list now: Did pretty much the same thing with Steam, since the situation seems to be similar... Some users report that it doesn't work for them anymore while others report no problems... Strange. Speaking of browsers, I just happened to notice that Sea Monkey (stable) still hasn't been updated since the last version to support XP/Vista, version 2.49.4, released July 2018 (almost 6 months ago): https://www.seamonkey-project.org/releases/ Wonder what's been taking them so long to finally release a new version...

  8. My XP System, happily encoding files in XAVC Intra Class 300 for Broadcast usage, as well as HEVC BT2100 HDR10 PQ / HLG thanks to Avisynth, x264 and x265 all compatible with XP. It's an old config I used to have at work. If you wanna check the new Win10 config I have at work while I encode a 4K UHD in HEVC H.265 with 16bit interleaved precision, check here: Link

  9. If you really want to get X99 platform running on XP64bit here are the step I would take. This is a lot of work. (btw to save you a lot of trouble id take dencorsos advice) PS.. sabertooth is not fully working it is 95% working i beleive minus the intel Nic drivers as he is using only the realtec part. Find a board you like, and downloard its motherboard manual or find a detailed spec sheet of all the components that are on it. The for each individual component you search the web and see if it is possible to find a driver for that component that will install on XP or Xp-64 bit. Once you hit a brickwall with doing that then look for other boards that have X99 chipset but more generic components that have better driver support across older platforms. I can tell you off the top of my head that Fatality board wont work very well becasue I looked at the hardware on it. Atleast the Killer stuff probably doesn't run adn neither does the intel nic.

  12. Many thanks indeed for letting us know ; I decided to give Otter Browser v1.0.01 a shot Main site: https://otter-browser.org/ GitHub source repo (+ issue tracker): https://github.com/OtterBrowser/otter-browser SF Windows binaries repo: https://sourceforge.net/projects/otter-browser/files/ At this time, no installer (setup) is available for latest (stable) version; one exists for previous RC, "otter-browser-win32-0.9.99.3-rc12-setup.exe", though... It appears that the binaries (setup.exe/.7z packages) meant for Win7+ have been compiled with Qt 5.10.1 (which requires Win7+), while the "*.xp.zip" packages have been compiled with the older Qt 5.6.2 framework, still compatible with both XP+Vista... From my brief encounter with otter-browser-win32-1.0.01-xp.zip, I can safely say this is far from being an alternative to both of roytam1's referenced browsers... At best, this is a project under development, a long distance away from maturity - despite the recent "stable" label, with very little customisation capabilities, no support yet (that I can see) for any browser extensions and, worse yet, the Vista compatible build has some additional shortcomings, due to the older version of Qt used in that... The Qt 5.10.1 versions (Win7+) of Otter have the "mediaservice" directory with wmfengine.dll inside it, this suggests Otter is capable of accessing WMF (system) decoders in Win7+; the Vista version (built on Qt 5.6.2) doesn't have this wmfengine.dll but instead has a "lib/gstreamer-1.0" subdirectory, which suggests that the build can't access Vista system codecs and media decoding is delegated to gstreamer instead ... Perhaps I am missing something obvious to experienced Otter users (e.g. the need to install gstreamer for Windows?), but I was unable to play ANY youtube video on my Vista SP2 laptop; in fact, when visiting www.youtube.com/html5 this is what I get: I wasn't willing to try installing gstreamer for fear it messes up with already installed codec packs, FWIW Vista isn't officially supported either: https://gstreamer.freedesktop.org/documentation/installing/on-windows.html So, for me at least, Otter will remain just a "curiosity" project I may check upon from time to time, not a match to New Moon 28.3.0a1 that I'm currently using for my main browsing needs...
