I don't use Borealis at all. it's there just in case I need it for testing it must be a nightmare for @roytam1 of having to update multiple browsers at a time I think he should focus on Palemoon and Basilisk only and make them as reliable and fast as possible2 points

@VistaLover Kind and helpful people like you make this forum warmer and inviting to visit more frequently. Nasty egoboosters having fun trampling over innocent others make forums icy and hostile. Keep your 'longwinded' postings coming please. Always very valuable and interesting! Although I usually don't react, but appreciate them, very much :)1 point

... Yes, I know This issue was first reported last July in the official PM forum; according to Moonchild himself: Broken userstyles.org on Tycho was another reason that expedited the release of (stable) PM28 on the UXP platform... Thank you both for your suggestions ; this improves considerably over what I have been doing thus far and may possibly also cure the userstyles' (auto-)updating issue... E.g. for https://userstyles.org/styles/31267/global-dark-style-changes-everything-to-dark the direct URI to the userstyle (via either suggestion) is found to be : https://userstyles.org/styles/31267/global-dark-style-changes-everything-to-dark.css Then I can install it in Stylem 2.2.4 via the "Install from URLs..." feature (so no need to copy the entire CSS code and "Write New Style" ). However, the main flaw of this procedure, as already pointed out by the both of you, is: meaning the need for a (second) browser, able to render correctly the site (which could then be browsed/searched normally for userstyles) isn't alleviated... I'm still hopeful that this specific PM27 bug will be properly addressed in due course... Thanks, I am well aware; site always visited with uB0 ON, some personal "cosmetic" filters also added (to negate their endless plug for the android version of their adware/spyware version of WE Stylish): ! https://userstyles.org/ userstyles.org##.overlay_background userstyles.org##.android_button_banner userstyles.org###top_android_button userstyles.org##.android_button_button userstyles.org##.head userstyles.org##.body userstyles.org##.footsteps userstyles.org##.shadow userstyles.org##.x_button ||userstyles.org/ui/images/icons/close-icon.svg$image ||userstyles.org/ui/images/280x294.png$image userstyles.org##div.us-stylecard--short:nth-of-type(3) userstyles.org##div.us-stylecard--short:nth-of-type(5) userstyles.org##div.us-stylecard--short:nth-of-type(12) userstyles.org##.navigation The thing is, Stylem (a fork of [XUL] Stylish 2.0.7 made by a member of the official PM community) hasn't been updated in a while and has little support for userstyle "portals" other than the original one (userstyles.org, supported in Stylish); even that support is currently lagging, as Stylem can't install correctly configurable styles (e.g. YouTube DeepDark Classic , with the "Customize Settings" button); that issue has been properly reported here, but the developer hasn't yet acknowledged it or come up with a fix Also, due to the shady practices of SimilarWeb, current owners of userstyles.org, many style authors are switching over to other infrastructures, e.g. OpenUser.CSS (loads fine in NM27, BTW), and a new "format" of userstyle called usercss (which is configurable post-install); Stylem has 0 support for these ; this new "usercss" type of userstyle and the new "OUCSS" repo are fully supported in the userstyle manager called Stylus , but this is a WebExtension, not installable in New Moon 27/28 (and only certain versions of it can be installed - with some manifest.json modifications - in Basilisk52/UXP). OT: Yes I know, another long-winded post I am afraid, but hopefully with info useful to the MSFN community1 point

@VistaLover If you have the direct link to a style description, try this: just add ".css" in the urlbar and load The source-code has a whole bunch of metatags, all starting with <link rel="stylish... for different browsers. But be cautious with the website itself, IIRC stylish-addon and userstyles.org was bought by a datacollector-company for lots of money awhile ago.1 point

Tell him he should be able to login again, now. If not, then PM me and let me know.1 point

You could of course do it manually by checking the PE file documentation to know where to alter pointers to make room for new code; but that may be tedious although free. This is to say: let's be happy there are guys like Rloew who contribute with solutions here. This is his income, like the rest of us have income from other jobs - so we are not free either, just charging elsewhere :)1 point

a cross-post from KM forum: While I'm still busy with my $dayjob, wicknix at palemoon forum contacted me: so for the time being while I still don't have enough time on hacking my 45esr+tff or pm28 to be KM-compatible, there is one more source for me to update my pm27 tree.1 point

Nicely done, and thank you! My only quibble is with KB4471984, which I suggest ought to be described as KB4471990 was, to show it contains the three security only npdXX files. Also one addition: for those who demand everything, the December Malicious Software Removal Tool, KB890830 is out there at the MS Update Catalog as well. (It's easily overlooked, as the same file apparently works on Win 7 and Win Server 2008 R2 as well.) As for this being "my job" ... well, no. The thing is, I'm multi-booting on this system with Win 10 v1809. Win 10 v1803, Win 7, and Vista. And for most of this year, since the unveiling of the Spectre and Meltdown vulnerabilities, it's seemed sensible to keep control of system updates in my own hands rather than trust MS system updates to make everything right automatically. To do that, I have to go out to the MS Update Catalog site at least once a month and see what's there. Since I'm looking at updates for three operating systems, adding a fourth is no big deal. And then I might as well share what I've learned with other Vista users, who are by definition compatriots .... and if I screw up, as alas happens now and then, we've all got GreenHillManiac to chomp down on that big cigar and set things right! What else? There are updates aimed specifically at .NET 3.5 this month, which is kind of ... unusual. Unusual enough that noting them specifically is probably worth doing. Generalizing wildly, some .NET patches conflict with others, and some don't. Specfically, there are a batch of .NET 2 patches, generally with names like WINDOWS6.0-KBXXXXXXX- .... MSU, that everybody ought to have on their system (or at least try to have; some of these get obsoleted and won 't install). There are some .NET 3.5 patches, named NDP3.5xxxxx or such, and they ought to be installed. Then there are .NET 4 patches, an unholy mess. These last have numbers like 4.0.X, 4.5.X, 4.6.X, and 4.7.X. The 4.0 series is aimed at Win XP, I suspect. People with 4.5 and 4.6 versions of .NET can't use the 4.0 patches. People with 4.5.0 can install 4.5.1 patches and 4.5.2 and so on, but not 4.6.X or 4.7.X patches. However, people with 4.6 can install 4.7 patches -- in fact folks at MS sometime seem confused, and you'll get something described as a .NET 4.6 patch at the MSUC site which refers to itself as a .NET 4.7 patch during installation. Hmmmm. I seem to have made a post here even if Tamris did do the heavy lifting this time. Christmas season, I recall, and this was a present. Thank your for the lovely gift, Tamris!1 point

Okay, so updates for this month seem to be: KB4471325 - Security Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows Server 2008 KB4471319 - Security Only Quality Update for Windows Server 2008 KB4471990 - Security and Quality Rollup for .NET Framework 3.5 SP1, 4.5.2, 4.6 (and 4.6.1) for Windows Server 2008 SP2 KB4470640 - Security and Quality Rollup for .NET Framework 4.6 (and 4.6.1) for Windows Server 2008 SP2 KB4470637 - Security and Quality Rollup for .NET Framework 4.5.2 for Windows Server 2008 SP2 KB4471102 - Security and Quality Rollup for .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 for Windows Server 2008 SP2 KB4471984 - Security Only Update for .NET Framework 3.5 SP1, 4.5.2, 4.6 (and 4.6.1) for Windows Server 2008 KB4470500 - Security Only Update for .NET Framework 4.6 (and 4.6.1) for Windows Server 2008 KB4470493 - Security Only Update for .NET Framework 4.5.2 for Windows Server 2008 KB4470633 - Security Only Update for .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 for Windows Server 2008 KB4470199 - Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 9 for Windows Server 2008 I think that's all of them, and seems they have decided to make 2 more .NET rollups in case people want either only updates for 3.5 or only for later ones? Or did I just unnecessarily post too many updates? Also, as usual, it's better if you wait at least a week before installing them, we never know what MS might have messed up in any of the updates this time. And I hope Mike won't be mad at me for stealing his job this 1 time lol.1 point

You can try to not looking at the screen , and/or start saying aloud "I am not going to work with this computer today, it seems like a perfect day for a walk outside" or similar, maybe it works like boiling water for tea http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/308 http://www.gutenberg.org/files/308/308-h/308-h.htm and it decreases the amount of memory in use ... jaclaz1 point

Yes, it is. But who will do this? And who tests and supports this version? I ask Michał Trojnara - he is too busy...1 point

Wasn't going to really say anything about this reply....just find it hard to believe that some people are so naive to think that Microsoft are actually trying to improve by telemetry updates..... No....perhaps not but Microsoft are more willing to over step the boundaries of what is in the user's best interests.... are we really saving settings...private information....just to improve the user's experience?! Microsoft hide behind contracts that have been written by so called top law firms to protect their stupid arseses when they get caught....What Microsoft do is no better than the American government thinking it is OK to "spy" on everyone in the name of national security.....sorry, just no respect for a company whose employees seem to do what they like and think it is ok? I am of course refering to the so called support rep for Microsoft that was helping me with a customer computer and while connected to it did whatever she thought ok to fix the problem...including surfing dubious sites to get help to fix the problem.....1 point
