[OT] Calmira XP

patchworks

Calmira 3.x does make it look like Windows 9x.

Workplace Shell for Windows makes it look like OS/2.

Oh well, it's a matter of putting VW stickers on your trabbie to look upmarket.

I've seen Calmira before but not this good. To make it look that good you definatly need drivers for your graphics card (to get over 16 colors) I never bothered finding drivers, mostly because I didn't think normal drivers would work, probubly Windows 9x drivers would work but then I realized windows 3.1 is really only nice as a novelty item.

This is hilarious

I don't know why anyone would want to make 3.1 look like XP.

Making it look more like 9x would be better :)

But that's still some very large effort!

Indeed, quite a bit of effort put forth. Besides, we have Tihiy's pack to make 9x look XP-ish so why not Calmira's 3.1 to XP? ^^

Edit in: Was bored and ran it on my 98se machine for kicks. Gives the XP toolbar overlayed over the current but flashes alot due to constant redraw.

Windows 9x drivers aren't compatible with Windows 3.1!

Because the Windows 3.1 kernel isn't 32-bit at all!

Even with Win32s, kernel functions are still 16-bit.

32 bit applications under Windows 3.1 are always required to communicate to the kernel in 16-bit-ese!

Even with Windows 95, that wasn't the case.

Windows 95 was the first consumer Windows version to have 32-bit functionability natively supported.

There's no hope for turning Windows 3.1 into a super gaming OS.

First off, DirectX didn't exist until at least Windows 95!

Now, I can see why someone would say that it's rediculous!

No surprise here that Link21 is already bashing this one! LOL!

We're better off using 2000(SP4) or XP(SP2) as a base and stripping it down, not taking a stripped down OS and trying to build on top of it.

The fun is to get a pro checking your PC and watch him trying launching XP build in software via the run command line, until he notices he is NOT on XP. No, it w98? w95? Even not....

LOL

I had this experience when the telecom guys went to check my DSL connection... and I only changed the color theme. Not even the revolution pack. :thumbup
