I tested the most recent Chrome XP API Adapter on my system with Pentium 4 single-core and NVIDIA 6200. Generally, this adapter is great as it offers the possibility to enable hardware acceleration. Although the hardware acceleration can be switched on, there are negative side-effects. All popups now have a black background, which then appears as a black frame. Apart from that, the GPU rasterisation does not really work and leads to permanent delays. Furthermore, some of my toolbar icons that belong to extensions disappear. Thus, I had to switch off GPU rasterisation. Contrary to these problems in Thorium, the hardware acceleration in Mypal 68 and New Moon 28 works great without any problems. That means hardware acceleration is generally possible on my system and can be used if this feature is supported by a browser, especially with hardware as old as mine.

I have installed Windows 2000 Professional SP4 on my Dell Latitude D620. This laptop is known for failing to boot to begin with, as I described here when running its native XP (I was locked out of this account). However, the steps to solve my boot issues also work for 2000. Everything worked as intended until I installed the graphics driver. Now, as soon as the PC gets past the colourful bootscreen, it either reboots or stays powered on with the screen turned off (not black, fully turned off) and no disk activity. Dell lists Windows 2000 as a supported system here, including the graphics driver, so there is no reason for it not to work. The laptop is powered by an Intel 945GM controller.

UPD: finally I have fixed that problem, and 66cats confirmed it in our private messaging. AV1 decoding works fine for him now. additional problem was in thread synchronization handling on his multicore type of CPU. @tekkaman JFYI, the advantages of aligning (one way or the other) is (largely) bul*****. If "everything" is aligned (NTFS is inherently aligned, FAT 16/32 are usually not) then there some (slight) advantages, actually only noticeable on slow bus or slow devices (such as USB 2.0 devices) on a relatively fast bus (like SATA 3) they are negligible (for traditional rotating hard disks, which also tend to have largish caches) while it is a very good idea to align to multiple of the sector AND of the memory page for SSD's. Thank you for your response. I am running Windows 8 Version 6.2 (Build 9200). The new computer is Windows 11. On the Windows 8 computer, for the C: drive properties I enabled Sharing and gave the C: drive a sharing name. On the Windows 11 computer, when I try to map a drive to the share name, I get a message, "Windows cannot access...". If I try to map a drive by browsing, I get a window that says "Network" with nothing in it. Both computers are connected to a common router, which is used to access internet.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe that may be a legacy option relating to SMB which has been disabled due to security reasons. Setting up share permissions between computers is trivial and doesn't use that option. You can post which edition of Windows 8 you have and also what OS is on your new computer and someone should be able to answer.

Presumably, you could re-sign MACHINE.INF after editing it, but I do not know if you have to sign it with a certain tool to match how it was signed originally. Also I do not know if you can use just any program to do it. Back when my company had to sign MS OS files, we had to use a PC with a PCI cryptography card to sign files.

I have doubts it is relating to the OS, rather how the firmware makes the information about installed devices available to the OS for enumeration. The question I would have is where that information is kept (or being read from) when Standard PC HAL is being used, since it wouldn't in the MPS table, and (apparently) not an ACPI table.

Some research on the 10xx series cards indicates that the newer Nvidia engine running the Pascal engine uses higher RAM addresses than XP is capable of reaching (limit = 4 gig for 32 bit address bus). Not sure if that is correct. However, I have seen discussion in the past about allowing XP to address beyond 4 gig. If it is the case that the Pascal engine on 10xx cards needs memory beyond 4 gig, that seems to be an insurmountable limitation on XP 32 bit.

Does anyone know if it is possible to force Windows XP (x86/x64) to treat signed and unsigned drivers equally, and not prefer a signed driver over an unsigned one? I know it is possible to disable signature enforcement and stop the warning popups and such, this is not what I need. I need Windows to stop automatically preferring a signed "generic" (device ClassCode [CC] INF entry) driver over an unsigned "specific" (device [VEN&DEV] INF entry) driver. I'm trying to manually slipstream motherboard chipset drivers into XP setup.. and the 250+ tiny INF and associated CAT files supplied by the OEM drive me nuts. So I decided to build a single compiled INF file, similar to what I did for my Windows 9x Chipset INFs. Which is fine, except that it is unsigned, while XP's MACHINE.INF is signed. So Setup refuses to use my INF for, say, the PCI-E Root Ports, because it has a generic Class Code entry for these in MACHINE.INF, and uses it with generic names. But it does pick up my INF for the SMBus controller and gives it its proper name, because no other driver matches it. This is maddening... Yes, I can manually force the use of the specific unsigned driver on the other devices through the device manager after the desktop is reached, but this defeats the purpose of having the driver slipstreamed to begin with. I can also edit MACHINE.INF with the new data and break its signature in the process.. but this leads to other dumb behavior, such as popups about "Terminal Server" device drivers during SETUP that require user interaction and break the unattended process.

So an issue I am having is I am trying to run 2000 on my 9900k and asus maximus xi hero and obviously acpi wont work so I had to use mps mode. The issue I am having is that in mps multiprocessor mode my pcie ethernet adapter is not detected, while in standard pc mode it is. I even tested it by installing my network card in standard pc mode, and I had an internet connection. But when I switched to MPS Multiprocessor, I lost my internet connection and would not detect my ethernet card (or my nec usb card) again.
