Aaron Posted September 29, 2003 Posted September 29, 2003 Well, if you're looking for the "Best compression utility" 7zip has one of the best compression methods around, far better than what WinRAR can do. But the most widely used compression tool around is probably WinRAR these days
scankurban Posted September 29, 2003 Posted September 29, 2003 When after to use WinRAR.Nobody want to change it
WildKat Posted September 30, 2003 Posted September 30, 2003 i still use pkzip... nah, winrar and winace are the only good ones ive come across
DeeHawk Posted October 3, 2003 Posted October 3, 2003 I used winACE for a long time but figured out that the good ol' winRAR still owns winACE has better compression, but has problems reading RAR-files... and a couple of other general errors...so everybody: KEEP THE BEST FILECOMPRESSER ALIVE! USE WINRAR!
XtremeMaC Posted October 20, 2003 Posted October 20, 2003 ease of use: WinRARoptions : WinRARhave no problems with : WinRARhas recovery option : WinRARsucks: Winzip it!
aresgodofwar Posted December 10, 2003 Posted December 10, 2003 i was torn between winrar and winace until i discovered winrar could extract .EXEs.
prathapml Posted January 17, 2004 Posted January 17, 2004 winrar, because of its ability to create SFX files that can extract to defined paths (%programfiles%, %appdata%, etc.)winzip is out of contention for me, but it's amazing the way winrar's gained reputation - when I started using winrar 2.50 in 2000, it had no attraction for me except that it could repair zips and rars, and winzip was pretty good at ver7.0.
beeboy Posted January 17, 2004 Posted January 17, 2004 Lots of winrar lovers. Never used it myself. I've used Iceows, Bigspeedzipper, Izarc, and 7zip. Izarc is my fave.
Papa Smurf Posted January 19, 2004 Posted January 19, 2004 Have used both and find Winrar ok but still stick to winzip?
rkarthea Posted March 12, 2004 Posted March 12, 2004 this poll need not have been conducted its a known thing that winRAR rulzzzz.for someone qouted he/she could'nt find the poll conducted earlier,it needn't have been conducted on msfn.may b it was somewhere else.
Jono Posted April 21, 2004 Posted April 21, 2004 WinRAR is the only choice i was actually shocked to find out there are other compression utilities i thinks i am sticking with winRAR it does exactly what it says on the tin
