Obliviator
I dont think thats what the CAT files are for. Arent they just to verify file authenticity? If they were WFP protected files, then the previous version of WMP wasnt protected because the corresponding CAT files doesnt exist for the files. Yes, CAT files are what Windows uses to verify file authenticity. And upon verifying them, it protects them with WFP. And yes, a CAT file does exist for WMP9 - SP2.cat, and layout.inf, and sfcfiles.dll, etc.
Bâshrat the Sneaky
So I'll better update the slipstreamer batch file I guess? (just put online V1.1 )
RyanVM
Well, you need to actually register the CAT files too. Normally it would be handled by the INFs.
SiMoNsAyS
****! i hate that f***** WFP! the most i use it, my files are more corrupted!.cat files suck!
Obliviator
Updated first post. Posted new setup that fixes reported bugs. As for the .CAT files, unless a majority of the users need WFP, im not overly worried.
bucketbuster
Okay something weird happened I tried this method, followed all the steps: downloaded the customized mp10setup.exe and added the line to wmp.inf and recabbed it.Put everything in I386 overwriting all existing files.BUT: after the installation of XP, WMP10 wasn't there Only two files and two folders were in Program Files\Windows Media Player.IconsSkinsnpdrmv2.zipnpds.zip
bucketbuster
Just tried it on a normal, non-modified XP installation.Still didn't work
Obliviator
Can you give me a bit more details and describe each step you took? btw, you werent suppose to edit wmp.in_. Its already editted.
war59312
Yes you do not edit the file if you download the setup. You simply right click on it and do extract to X:\i386 over rideing all the other files. I have tested this with Rayns 1.04 and worked great and just about to test 1.05. Sure it will be fine. oh just notice u can run it to but i always etract using winrar heheoh and just so u know when i tested with 1.04 i used nlite too...do not remove wmp 9.0!!!!.....whats the point since its overwritten with 10.0.....to me it sounds like you would be removing 10 if u did that....or even if u do 10...after removing 9.0 the files are coming right back so again pointless...And yes it would be nice to have the cat files. If i only could do it myself. Not enough time and enegry to learn atm. Just started college again. Four weeks off is not enough.
war59312
Hey,Here is a newer Wmp.dll.http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=889858This is for the installer. Not sure about the download from microsoft. Probally needs this too.And for those wondering Wmvcore.dll is already the latest:http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=887078So just extract to i386 folder.Download this:http://download.microsoft.com/download/7/3...858-x86-enu.exeAnd etract to a new folder and take out wmp.dll and then use this or do it manually so u have Wmp.DL_ :Compression Bin:http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...&hl=compressionNow I have not tested this yet so not sure what wmp will say if u update just that file but according to microsofts web site it should be fine. About to test in a min but got to go to sleep so post results in morning if some one does not post before then.Take Care, WillPS: Saves another 520kb. lol
