This seems to indicate that the forum software is not functioning correctly. Is that right? I visited topics in the Windows XP forum with 0 views that were not counted by the forum software. And my topics don't seem to be counted anymore either. It is clear that accurate view counting is an important tool for the author of an article. Therefore, I hope that this will be working again soon. Edited December 23, 2025 by AstroSkipper Update of content 1
NotHereToPlayGames Posted December 23, 2025 Posted December 23, 2025 Technically... Counting replies is legit. But counting views also counts "bots" and not real "people". At least on many other forums. The "view" count is meaningless and misleading. REPLIES on the other hand can be considered an "important tool for the author of an article".
NotHereToPlayGames Posted December 23, 2025 Posted December 23, 2025 Or are we trying to count how many times a "bot" stumbles upon an MSFN Thread ???
AstroSkipper Posted December 23, 2025 Posted December 23, 2025 (edited) Even a thread with only one reply can be very interesting and be read many times. I am interested in how often an article is visited. It doesn't matter who it is. Bots are everywhere and can never be ruled out. Perhaps bots are commonplace in your country. After all, anything is possible there these days. However, I am convinced that it is quite frustrating for creators of new threads when supposedly no one reads their threads. Apart from that, I have never noticed any unusual increases of views in my threads. Edited December 23, 2025 by AstroSkipper Update of content 1
Tripredacus Posted December 23, 2025 Posted December 23, 2025 I'm not certain, but for some reason I believe that the Views is only increased when a registered member (aka not a guest) visits a thread. I may be wrong about that, I don't have another Invision forum to compare against. I know that on SMF, anyone (including guest) counts towards views.
NotHereToPlayGames Posted December 23, 2025 Posted December 23, 2025 (edited) I personally like "numbers". Browser benchmarks, CPU benchmarks, forum post view counts, read counts, and even REPUTATION POINTS are *IMPORTANT*. ***BUT*** MSFN has proven that "reputation points" are *NOTHING* more than a "game" that people here play EACH AND EVERY DAY. I've come to see them as *FINE ART*. We have members NO LONGER active members whose "rep points" have TRIPLED now that they are NO LONGER ACTIVE MEMBERS. Look up the "value" of fine art *after* the artist or author passes on. I just sit back and laugh. And ramble about it every once in a while. Edited December 23, 2025 by NotHereToPlayGames

I am a registered member, and visiting a thread with 0 views does not count my visit. So, your theory is wrong. BTW, even not registered visitors were counted in the past. All that means something has changed in the forum software, and unfortunately not for the better. Edited December 23, 2025 by AstroSkipper Update of content
schwups Posted December 24, 2025 Posted December 24, 2025 The counter has not been working since maintenance in October. Perhaps simply disabled. 2
AstroSkipper Posted December 26, 2025 Posted December 26, 2025 The facts are on the table. The issue has been identified, as has the time at which it occurred. So what now? 1

That is about the time I noticed this happening. I was going to inquire about it but figured it was a simple glitch that would be fixed after it was noticed by more members or a supervisor. It is nice to see a count of some sort, even if there are no 'humans' on the site these days. ... Edited December 26, 2025 by Monroe add 1
EliraFriesnan Posted Monday at 04:48 PM Posted Monday at 04:48 PM It's a very important metric to draw conclusions about someone's popularity on social media, not as important as profile views, but still.
NotHereToPlayGames Posted Monday at 04:57 PM Posted Monday at 04:57 PM I AGEREE !!! Gernerally speaking. BUT THEY ARE BEING *FAKED* HERE AT MSFN !!! "Is what it is." I'm not on what I consider "social media" (we all know what they are). I have to *ASSUME* that 'real' social media sites have preventative measures to *PREVENT* these types of *FAKES*. Again, "is what it is".
EliraFriesnan Posted Monday at 05:13 PM Posted Monday at 05:13 PM Nonsense! How is it even possible to "fake" profile views?!?!?! And you had been told before, it's a real social site. Stop calling it fake. You need to listen to what the supervisor tells you. 1
